~Rex’s POV~

I regained my calm and followed Hugo after a few minutes of reflection. Afterward, I escorted him to the room where I and Juno were staying. Hugo kissed her on the forehead after tucking her into bed and brushing her hair back. He walked over to a couch, not giving a second thought to the folks he had frozen in the hall. “Explain.” In my mind’s eye, I saw the young man who was currently conversing with me as if I were his best friend. He owes it to the goddess to express his gratitude for the fact that he is Juno’s twin. If not, I could have chopped off his head. No one ever speaks to me as though they are about to poop in the toilet. I’ll let that slip because he’s her twin brother.

“Consider this: I understand that the queen is your twin sister, but I expect you to treat me with respect. I am significantly older than you and your entire bloodline, young man.” The boy just stood there staring at me as if I were an empty tin that had been tossed on the marble floor and was now making a lot of noise.

“Nobody, not even the monarch, dares to meddle in the affairs of my family. I will battle for my family until my dying breath. So go ahead and start talking!” I saw straight once that arguing with him would just exacerbate the situation, and there were people who were already frozen in the hall.

How in Hell did Zeus end up frozen in the first place? Pathetic! He was paralyzed by a mutt who hadn’t even shifted. What an insult! Is this young man more powerful than Zeus? Things are starting to puzzle me now. Zeus was supposed to be the second dreaded man after me. Here he is frozen by magic.

“You come across as someone who has a pretty negative outlook on life. Did you really believe you’d be able to keep it a secret from me? Do you believe that behaving sternly with me would be effective, Hugo? You’re a pathetic little mutt in my eyes. Weak, to put it bluntly. I’m even willing to give some credit. You have not shifted, and all you have done since you arrived here is an attempt to hide from me. Did you really believe I wouldn’t notice?” His eyes widened as he thought about it. Due to his ego, he refused to entertain the idea.

“I am not here to talk about my inability to shift. I am here for you to tell me why those two called my sister their “mate.” If you want to talk to me, you should wait until after my family. Juno is my family, and I want to know everything right now.”

“Great! How old do you think Juno is? ”

“Don’t waste any time and get right to the point. I’m aware of our family history, but that doesn’t rule out the fact that Juno is my sister. We are both of the same bloodlines, as well. My father’s and mother’s blood run through her veins. I know this is her second chance.”

“I had the pleasure of meeting her hundreds of years ago. She was my soul mate, and she still is. I will therefore start with that small boy who called her his mate. That’s not a young boy; that’s my twin brother, just like you and Juno. My brother and I can’t share a mate, contrary to popular belief that identical twins have a partner in each other. My brother and I are unique in the same way that you and Juno are. So, he thinks Juno is his mate because she is my mate and because he believes that twins share a mate, but it’s not the case with us. We can never share. He’s the one who kidnapped Juno from your parents and abandoned her, for which I’ll continue to hold him accountable. Juno then grew up in a park, where she met Alex, the idiot Alpha you just met. I’m not sure what happened, but… I stared him in the eye. “Listen up. You must promise me that you will not touch him after hearing what I am about to tell you. I have chastised him, but it is only Juno who will determine his ultimate fate.”

“What did he do?”

“When Juno was 18, she gained her lycanthropy but was unable to shift since I could only command her to shift. Which didn’t work because she had to wait for her twin to arrive. We’ll get to that later. To cut the long story short, Juno may have misunderstood Alex for her mate. Or she may have been duped by someone who controlled her fate and convinced her that Alex was her mate. He’s been raping her and abusing her ever since he found out he was his mate, and he’s been doing it for years.”

I noticed him using his vampire speed, but I looked at the door and locked his legs.

“I thought I told you not to react.”
