Chapter 1642
Elsie stared at the hand reaching toward her and took several steps back.
She no longer believed a single word from Raven. Raven was nothing but a liar!
Moreover, that sudden change of expression-her face-changing moment was utterly unnerving, almost terrifying.
"I don't trust you anymore!" Elsie shouted before shoving Raven aside and running out.
Raven tried to stop her, but Elsie slipped through.
The building was crowded with people, and there was no way Raven could catch up. She didn't expect Elsie to calm down so quickly, seemingly unaffected by the negative item.
Under normal circumstances, Elsie would have trusted her fabricated memories completely, paying no attention to anything others said. Even if she had heard alternative explanations, she wouldn't have easily believed them. If doubt crept into her mind, another thought would instantly appear, urging her not to trust anyone.
It seemed that Elsie's encounter with Skylar the other day had influenced her somehow.
Raven pursed her lips and took a deep breath. "Well, it's fine. After waiting so long, isn't this exactly what I wanted? To finally meet Skylar?"
It was 5:00 pm, and Skylar was just about to finish her workday when the security guard called her office.
"There's someone here to see you. She says her name is Elsie."
"Tell her I've already left," Skylar replied curtly.
The security hesitated before continuing, "She said she won't leave unless she sees you. She'll wait here as long as it takes, and she mentioned she wants to tell you everything she knows." Skylar's expression darkened. After a brief pause, she said, "Alright, let her wait."
A few minutes later, Skylar stepped outside the company's entrance and saw Elsie.
She looked pale, her hair tangled and disheveled. Her clothes hadn't been changed in days, with dirt visible on the cuffs and collar.
Her entire demeanor screamed exhaustion and despair.
The moment Elsie saw Skylar, she rushed forward.
"Skylar, I truly know I was wrong! I realize now that I was controlled by the negative item. All those memories of being reborn-they were because of that.
"And the person who gave me the negative item was Raven Garrett! I just met
even toer. She had refused tonoveldrama
even tell me her name previously But luckily, I recognized her from a
a
video online! She must have e
grudge against you. Otherwise, why would she use me?"
"Did she say anything to you?" Skylar asked.
Elsie was slightly surprised that Skylar didn't seem shocked. "Wait... Do you already know that Raven was behind all this?" Skylar didn't deny it. "Yes."
Elsie laughed bitterly. "So, I really
was the only fool in all this! How could I believe in something as ridiculous as that? Why would anyone be kind to a stranger without reason? She refused to admit that the object she gave me was cursed, but I could feel her hostility toward you."
Skylar found this strange. She and Raven had no shared history-they had never crossed paths. How could hatred arise between two strangers?
Hostility?
Elsie hesitated, biting her lip as if struggling with her next words. When she finally spoke, her voice was trembling with desperation.
"Can you help me? Please... I can't take this anymore. This negative item has been tormenting me day and night. I can't stay calm-I'm constantly trapped in delusions. I'm losing my mind!
"Please, I know I was wrong before. I
caused trouble for you and Mr.
Martin. I was arrogant and blind.
ignored your warnings. But I've.
changed. Please forgive me and
help me get rid of this negative item.
Please!"
Through Elsie's tearful plea, Skylar could sense her fear.
It was clear that Elsie had reflected deeply and made an effort to resist the negative item's influence. Without that awareness and resistance, she wouldn't have wanted to break free.
If Elsie still harbored greed in her heart, she would remain under the object's control, endlessly trapped in the illusions it created, unable to distinguish them from reality.
However, Skylar remained silent.
Seeing that, Elsie started crying, her voice filled with anguish.
"It was my fault before, I know! I swear I've learned my lesson. I'll never accept gifts from strangers again, and I won't bother Mr. Martin anymore."
After all that had happened in the past few days, Elsie finally realized that Joe could never love her.
It was so obvious that Joe only had Skylar in his heart. Everyone else was just a supporting role.
She was envious of Joe's deep affection for Skylar. However, she knew better now that she shouldn't have tried to come between them.
The consequences were more than what she could bear.
What do you think?
