Chapter 286
Stanley paused for a moment, then continued in a voice dripping with contempt, "By the way, Ms. Smith started entering crochet competitions and winning prize money years ago. Do you know why she never told you? Because of your fragile
male ego.
"You couldn't stand a woman outshining you. She had to downplay her talent just to protect your pathetic pride, and you stabbed her in the back!"
Stanley had had enough. "Without Ms. Smith, do you really think we'd ever team up with someone like you? Not a chance." With that, he hung up.
The call ended, leaving Simon in shock. Stanley's words echoed in his mind. Janice had been winning prize money for years and hiding it from him just to protect his ego.
So, those sponsors never existed. She had been using her own winnings to keep Refined Threads Co. afloat all along.
His phone slipped from his grip and hit the floor. He sank onto the couch, his body stiff and his mind blank.
He had misunderstood Janice. Not only that he had belittled her. He had called her talentless and told her she would never make it. He had even mocked her, saying that she only secured investments because of her beauty.
Regret overwhelmed him. He had been wrong about everything. Janice had worked tirelessly to help him, keep the company running, and protect his pride and dignity. And how had he repaid her? By doubting her and betraying her.
Simon smacked himself hard across the face. Regret tore through him. He hated what he had done. Everything was his fault. He despised himself for being such a fool, for letting Amelia deceive him.
He curled up on the couch, pulled out his phone, and started scrolling through old photos. Soon, he came across a photo of Janice from when she was still young and innocent.
Back then, she had been so thin. She had always been right there with him, handing out flyers. Even when she was drenched in sweat, she never complained.
She had always treated Helena with respect, never forgetting to send gifts on special occasions. Comparing Janice to Elsie, Simon was finally starting to realize just how much Janice had done for him.
Gripping his phone, Simon suddenly burst into tears. "Janice... I was wrong! So
damn wrong!" But his words couldn't reach her.
Meanwhile, miles away, Janice was grocery shopping with Edward.
"You're so busy every day. Why are you doing the grocery shopping yourself?" Janice asked, smiling as she helped Edward push the cart.
Edward, having finished work early today and refusing to let Janice stay late, gave a warm smile. "Didn't you say you liked the simple things in life?" he replied. He remembered everything she had told him.
"Is that... Janice Smith? It is Janice Smith!"
Janice suddenly heard someone call her name from the crowd. Surprised, she
paused and glanced around. Two fans were walking toward her.
"Hi," she said with a smile.
"It really is you!" one of the women exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement. "You're amazing! I admire you so much, and I've bought
your products too! Can we take a
photo together?"
Edward raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at his lips. He reached out andnoveldrama
offered, "I'll take the photo for you."
The two women were stunned. They hadn't expected Edward to be so
approachable.
