Chapter 285
Janice's video, combined with Amelia's mocking words, pushed Sarah over the edge. She threw her phone aside and lunged at Amelia, grabbing her hair. "You filthy scumbag! I'll shut your damn mouth!"
Zedrick's kick struck her side with force. Sarah cried out as pain shot through her waist, sending her sprawling to the floor.
The bodyguards burst through the door, swiftly pinning her down and smacking her face again and again.
Zedrick's icy gaze locked onto her as he said in a low and menacing voice, "You still don't get it, huh? This is how Simon learned his lesson."
Sarah had never really taken a real beating before-just a few slaps from Helena at most. But this time, with punches and kicks hitting hard, the pain got overwhelming real fast, and she passed out.
Amelia, devoid of fear, coldly watched as Sarah lay motionless on the floor. After all, Amelia was practically done for. Why would she care about the fate of someone she despised?
"Just leave her," Amelia ordered, her voice ice cold. "When she wakes up, she'll get back to the kitchen." Amelia had already decided she was going to make Sarah's life a living nightmare.
Meanwhile, she contacted a few tabloids to make sure Sarah's job as a maid made headlines.
Helena called Simon that same day. "Simon, did Sarah really become a maid?" she asked, her voice full of worry.
"I don't know. She can do whatever she wants," Simon snapped, hanging up abruptly.
He had just seen the infuriating headline—"Heiress to Maid: Is Refine Threads Co. Collapsing, or Is the Fitzgerald Heiress Embracing Real Life as a Maid?" The headline was pure clickbait, designed to go viral, and it worked instantly.
Simon's business partners, who used to keep in touch regularly, were now completely shutting him out. The network he had always boasted about was now useless.
Desperately dialing numbers from his phone, he rushed to secure investments. He couldn't just sit back and do nothing. He had to find a way to turn things around.
"Mr. Spencer, we've worked on a few projects together, right?" Simon said. "Sorry, Mr. Fitzgerald, I'm really busy right now. Let's talk later," the man replied. "Uh, Mr. Spencer-" Simon started, but the line went dead.
Simon, not giving up, kept calling his other business partners. "Mr. Hudson? Are you-"
"In a meeting, sorry," was the curt response he got.
Call after call got cut short, and frustration twisted Simon's face. He fumed silently about the ungrateful jerks. In his mind, they were nothing but backstabbers and fair-weather friends.
Gritting his teeth, he fought to control his anger before calling another business partner, Stanley Wood.
"Mr. Wood, please, don't hang up!" Simon begged, desperation creeping into his voice.noveldrama
Stanley sighed wearily on the other end.
Simon spoke quickly, urgency in his tone. "Mr. Wood, we've had a good relationship these past few years. You trusted me back then. I'm just going through a rough patch now. Please, can you consider investing? I'm willing to put in work!"
"Mr. Fitzgerald, let's be realistic," Stanley said. "The crochet industry in Greenfield City is a mess right now. Everyone's on edge, worried about being pushed out by the big corporations. I don't have any extra cash to invest."
"Mr. Wood, please-I helped your company before!" Simon pleaded, his voice rising.
Stanley cut him off gently, saying, "I've got an event. Gotta go."
"Stanley Wood!" Simon blurted out, losing his composure. "You can't be this ungrateful! Just because I'm down on my luck now, you think you can turn your back on me like this?"
Stanley was fed up with Simon's attitude. Losing his patience, he snapped, Mr. Fitzgerald, what exactly did you do for me? That was a partnership, not charity! Nobody owe's anybody anything here. And don't make yourself out to be so important.
"Back then, the reason we worked with Refined Threads Co. was because of
Janice's potential, not yours. What did you actually contribute?"
Simon froze, Stanley's words cutting
En
deep. "Mr. Wood, you have to be kidding me," he said, disbelief in his voice. "What potential could you have seen in Janice back then You don't need to butter her up over the phone. I get it-she's on top now, and you're scared to piss her off."
Stanley's frustration boiled as he listened to Simon. Finally, he lost it. "Oh, come on. Do you really think we teamed up with Refined Threads Co. because of you? It was Ms. Smith and her amazing crochet that got us interested. Otherwise, we wouldn't have given your company a second thought.
"And you? What smart business moves have you ever made? Firing Ms. Smith?"
Stanley scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Mr. Fitzgerald, your biggest problem is your arrogance. You don't even realize how out of your depth you are!"
What do you think?
