Chapter 0209
It felt as though everything was progressing strangely. I suspected that Jasmine thought I was the culprit behind her attack.
Her eyes were bloodshot when she glared at me. When she sobbed, her entire body was trembling. Sweat was dripping out of her as though she were a sponge. Anyone would have a hard time accepting the injustice that happened to her. I understood her feelings. All I could do was try to calm her down as best I could.
I said softly, "I wasn't the one who did that. Let me explain-"
Before I even finished speaking, Jasmine roared as loudly as she could. She said, "Who else but you would do this?"
Jasmine was using every bit of energy she had left. She put all of her strength into that roar, and it sounded as though she wanted to rip me apart.
I recalled our previous interactions. Jasmine was a generous woman brimming with confidence and sexiness. I had never seen her in that state before. It was as though the pain had overwhelmed her, and she could no longer hold on.
I regretted being there at that moment. Perhaps I had shown up too soon. I should have waited until she had mostly recovered and her emotions had stabilized before I visited. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Upon seeing how tortured she was, my heart gripped as well. I took a few steps backward. I didn't want to put too much pressure on her when I said, "Jasmine, calm down."
Her emotions were running wild, and she could no longer speak coherent words. She said, "I only returned to help Nicholas out. Why did you try to kill me? I was simply putting on an act. I am not a home wrecker."
Jasmine ripped the needle off her arm. Crimson-red blood squirted out without any warning. She was so scared that she curled up and had her hands in her hair.
Her irises dilated as the memory of that night haunted her. Her eyes were wide open, and her gaze was unfocused as she muttered, "I went home, and a... a man suddenly ran toward me. I didn't have the strength to run away. He pulled my hair and demanded that I open the door. I-I didn't have the guts... Ah!"
Then, Jasmine screamed. Her hands were over her ears as she tried to protect herself from the pain she endured that night. She kept kicking the bed, and she said, "That man... He pulled my hair and shoved me onto the floor. Ah, it hurts! It hurts so much!"
She stared fearfully at me and suddenly knelt on the floor by the bed. She begged, "Mrs. Hawk, please. I beg of you. Spare my life. I never intended to replace you. Please! I am even willing to leave the country."
She cried hopelessly, and her sorrow was so infectious that I sobbed. Her description duplicated her lingering fear in me. There were similar cases in the past.
I could only look at the silver lining. Fortunately, she did as the criminal demanded and opened the door. If she hadn't, being in the enclosed section would make the criminal do much more than just hurt her It was extremely possible that she would've been tortured to death.
I could feel a hint of bitterness in me. Seeing Jasmine like that got tears to roll down my cheeks as well.
She was bleeding again, so I hurried over to hold her tightly. I was extremely gentle when I said, "It's not me. You don't need to fear me. You're safe now. No one can hurt you anymore." "Ah!"
All Jasmine did was shriek. I didn't know what she heard, so I held her in my arms. I could feel her trembling in fear, so I repeatedly said comforting words to ease her mind.
There was no other way. I had to calm her down first. If not, every move she made would hurt herself.
I was worried about my unborn
baby's safety. If Jasmine were to accidentally hit me while she was confused, everything I did in the previous two weeks would have
been for naught. Still, I couldn't bring
myself to ignore her.
My voice was gentle, but empowering, as I promised, "I will protect you. Trust me. The person who hurt you was Claudia Quirk. We are both victims here."
The woman in my arms trembled.
When she heard my words, she finally stopped struggling. Her expression showed that she was experiencing something in addition to fear. I knew she hadn't completely lost her sanity and could still hear me.
"Nicholas and I are about to get a divorce. Whether you marry into the family or not has nothing to do with me.
"But that is not the case for Claudia. You will take her beloved brother from her. We were both fooled by her cute, innocent style. The truth is that Claudia isn't as simple as she seems." "That's bullshit!"
The door to the hospital room flung open. A pair of black leather shoes kicked the door and entered the room.
When Nicholas entered the room, he saw Jasmine with a blank expression on her face. She was deathly pale and was being locked in place in my arms...
