The Great Medical Saint

Chapter 747

Matthew nodded his head in reply. "I am. Look, if they earned two million dollars with a single bed each year, it must mean that they earn at least six to seven thousand dollars a day. Just the numbers alone scare me."

Rachel laughed and said, "But they're nothing compared to you. They're only earning a few thousand dollars each day per bed, but you'd be asking for a billion dollars as the medical fees."

Then, it finally hit Matthew-Rachel was referring to something else. But there were just some things that Rachel didn't know about.

For example, he had never charged his inmates whenever he treated them when they were sick. Sometimes, he would even treat the inmates' family members for free, and Matthew only ever charged the rich if he were to cure them.

Frankly, Matthew wasn't actually allowed to practice medicine because of the rules Nicholas had set. The latter had a more important task for Matthew to finish.

Back then, Matthew couldn't tell what was more important than curing people and saving lives. But he understood now-it was because more traditional medicine practitioners would be able to save more lives with the knowledge preserved from the legacy of the Eight Medical Sects.

With that thought in mind, Matthew smiled and said, "I'll try to reduce practicing medicine from now on."

Rachel was a little confused. She had always thought of Matthew as a money- lover, and that he would charge an exorbitant amount whenever he cured someone. Why would Matthew stop making money when he loved it so much?

Rachel then blurted out her thoughts and questions, "Why? Why would you cut back on practicing medicine?"

Upon hearing that, Matthew let out a mysterious smile. "Because I have more important things to accomplish."

They finally arrived at the elevator, and Matthew held onto Rachel's hand as they entered the elevator. Then, Rachel stared at Matthew, anticipating his answers for whatever it was that was of importance to him.

However, Matthew didn't say a single thing, and Rachel could tell that he didn't want to talk about it. Needless to say, she only got even more curious about what it was that was so important that Matthew temporarily gave up on making money.

The elevator chimed, and the doors opened when they arrived at the top floor. Matthew then let go of Rachel's hand as they walked side by side like proper colleagues would.

Soon enough, they arrived at the hospital director's office, and Matthew was about to knock on the door when someone called out from the side, "You're here to meet Mr. Garland, aren't you? He's at the Neurology Inpatient Ward."

Matthew briefly thanked the person and headed toward the Neurology Inpatient Ward with Rachel.

In the High-Dependency Care Unit of the Neurology Inpatient Ward, Tessa was sitting on the bed with an IV drip attached. Above her head hung three different IV bags, each tube connecting to a single catheter to her arm.

Tessa's eyes were overwhelmed with fear, and her face had contorted unpleasantly. Leander had said that he could equip her with an exoskeleton of immense strength and that it could be controlled by her brainwaves.

She had assumed that Leander's laboratory would be fully equipped because of how large and well-funded this research project was. However, she was surprised to learn that he couldn't even perform a chip-implanting surgery on her brain and needed to do it at a hospital instead.

Of course, Tessa couldn't do anything about it now that they were at the hospital. Still, she still felt a deep-rooted fear, because Leander hadn't brought her to the two hospitals with the best medical skills in Lambda City but the hospital with the medical skills that ranked third-Greenhill Hospital.

Tessa felt as if she was a lab rat because there was a possibility of dying if the surgery were to fail.

After the three IV bags had been infused into her bloodstream, a nurse entered the room and informed her, "The morning infusion session is done for now. You'll have to get another infusion in the afternoon three hours before the surgery."

Once the nurse took away the three IV bags, she turned to leave.

Tessa then wore her shoes and walked out of the ward, slowly heading toward the elevator. She felt the urge to just take the elevator down and run for her life.

However, a security guard came over from the side of the elevator and asked, "Ms. Sanders, are you going down? I've been assigned by Mr. Farburg to take care of you, so I can accompany you if you want to head down."

At this moment, Tessa realized that Leander had sent someone just to watch over her. She then smiled and said, "No, I'm not gonna go down. I just wanted to take a walk because my nerves were getting numb from sitting on the bed for such a long time."

The security returned a smile and said, "Alright. Let me know if you want to head down. I'll accompany you, then."

With that, Tessa headed back to the ward with a heavy heart.

Right after she had gotten a divorce, she soon realized that all the men who had been nice to her harbored their own motives by doing so. It seemed that there wasn't a single man who had been nice to her without any particular reason.

Oh, there was one man in particular who did-Matthew.

Back then, Matthew had gone to jail for her and only hoped that he would get a lighter sentence because he didn't want Lorraine to be left without a mother. He had wanted them to both be happier.

Of all the men Tessa had interacted with, only Matthew had wanted the best for her and treated her well. But... she had officially lost him in the end.

Thinking of that, Tessa's vision began to blur, and her eyes soon welled up with tears. Then, she saw a man walking in her direction through her glassy eyes, and his figure exacted the same as Matthew's.noveldrama

Tessa thought that she was hallucinating and quickly wiped her tears away with the corner of her sleeve to take a better look.

The man really was Matthew, and he was walking toward her!
