Chapter 230 Hatred

Mia curled up in fear.

Brendon, with his commanding presence, exuded an intimidating aura. With just one icy glance from him, it was as if she had fallen into a frozen cave and her entire body was immediately enveloped in coldness, causing her to shiver uncontrollably.

"Mr. Stuart, I don't know what you're talking about!" Mia's voice trembled uncontrollably, betraying her nervousness.

"Don't know? The hospital where your father is being treated is owned by Pixystems."

Mentioning her sick father instantly shattered any hope Mia had left. She slumped onto the ground like a pile of mud and looked up at Brendon.

"Mr. Stuart, my family is innocent. Please don't hurt them."

Taking a deep breath, she continued, "I never intended to harm Ranita but someone approached me and offered me money to invite her out for drinks."

Holly had been pressuring Mia to do something but Ranita ignored her completely so Holly gave up on that plan altogether.

She sold the studio and gave all the money to her family. However, her mother immediately used the funds to buy houses for her two younger brothers and supported her natal family. Her father then asked her for money to cover the recovery expenses for his hand injury.

The requested amount was a staggering five hundred thousand.

Mia didn't have a money tree; where could she get such a sum?

"They said they won't harm her, just want to discuss a project with her. But Ranita kept dodging, claiming she was busy," Mia lied. In reality, those people seemed troublesome, and it was highly unlikely they just wanted to chat about a project without causing harm to Ranita. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

However, if Mia admitted this in front of Brendon, she would be left with no way out.

"I never intended to harm her. I arranged to meet them at a bar, but they never showed up. I had two drinks too many, and in the end, Ranita left on her own."

According to the surveillance footage, that was indeed the case.

Brendon had suspicions but lacked evidence.

"Mr. Stuart, this is the person's phone number at that time. I really don't know anything beyond that!"

"Mia! Why didn't you say anything yesterday when we were at the police station?"

Mia turned on the waterworks like an actress who'd been practicing all day long, "Mr. Stuart! I'm afraid of getting into trouble! If something really happened with Ranita then it'll be my fault... my life will be ruined forever..."

"I'll go down there later today and explain everything."

Brendon received the phone and immediately handed it over to the police station. The police quickly identified the owner of the phone, but it turned out to be a dead end.

The owner was an old man in his seventies who claimed that someone had borrowed his phone and gave him a hundred dollars for it. He was also hard of hearing, making communication difficult.

With no leads, Ranita was dragged into a shabby cement room and locked up. The room was small with only a bed and table, and there was a small window with a steep slope outside that would mean certain death if she jumped.

The only way out was through the front door.

However, Ranita couldn't escape as her hands were untied, her eyes weren't blindfolded but there was an iron chain on her right foot.

She heard faint noises outside before people's voices along with car sounds faded away. But Ranita didn't let down her guard; she waited anxiously for help but no one came!

Days passed by without any sign of rescue while day turned into night again and again.

An elderly woman in her fifties pushed a wheelchair over. Seated in the wheelchair was a gaunt, despondent-looking man with sunken eyes. Hunched over, as soon as he saw Ranita, intense hatred flared up in his eyes.

"You are... Turner?"
