The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 282

Chapter 282

Returning home, Cordelia was exhausted and retreated to her room for some rest. Her phone buzzed

with a new message on Messenger: [Cordelia, it's Edwin's birthday on the 25th. I've invited you to

come, please do.]

Cordelia remembered what Brooklyn had told her, and felt awkward. [Maybe I shouldn't come. I'm

heavily pregnant.]

Brooklyn: [If you don't come, he won't celebrate. I found out from my sister that today is his birthday.

He's never been big on celebrating. But when I told him this year, Cordelia and I will celebrate with him,

he agreed. We're planning to go to the countryside. It'll be good for a pregnant woman like you.]

Cordelia: [Are you chasing him, or are you using me to chase him?]

Brooklyn was silent for a while. [I know that he only comes out when you're around.] Brooklyn replied

after a pause.

Cordelia: [Then I'll invite Ronan, not sure if he'll come.]

Brooklyn: [That would be great. The four of us can have a nice outing. It's a Saturday.]

Cordelia thought Brooklyn's method of pursuing a man was wrong. Brooklyn seemed to demean

herself in front of Edwin. She used to be such a vivacious and cheerful girl.

Cordelia felt conflicted. She didn't want to go, but she wanted to help Brooklyn.

At dinner, Cordelia emerged from her room. She saw Ronan standing at her doorway, about to knock.

"Dinner?" Cordelia asked Ronan. Her doe-like eyes looked up at him.

"Yes." After saying this, Ronan took Cordelia's hand and led her to the dinner table. Cordelia always felt RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

her defenses crumbling whenever Ronan displayed such casual kindness.

Today, Janice had made tortellini.

"Is there something special today?" Cordelia asked Ronan.

"Do we need a special occasion to eat?" Ronan questioned.

Cordelia believed that only for very joyous occasions would he eat Tortellini. Even Janice didn't know

about his liking for them.

"Do you have plans this Saturday?" Cordelia asked while eating.

"Do you? Tell me about it." Ronan's voice was calm. It was one of the rare moments when he wasn't

quick-tempered since Cordelia got pregnant.

"It's Edwin's birthday. Brooklyn invited me. They're planning to go to the countryside. I can't go alone,

so I was wondering if you could come with me. Is it okay?" Cordelia asked him.

Without even thinking, Ronan responded, "Sure."

Cordelia was surprised. She thought the high-profile Mr. Evans of Lumos Enterprises wouldn't attend

Edwin's birthday. "What should we give Edwin as a gift?" Cordelia asked.

"We?" Ronan questioned.

"Yeah, it's obvious that we have to give him a gift together." Cordelia said.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get divorced?" Ronan retorted.

Cordelia was speechless and continued eating quietly.

"I'll take care of it." He added.

"What are you planning to gift him?" Cordelia was curious about what Ronan had in mind.

"You'll know when the time comes." Ronan said.

Cordelia did not ask further.

Saturday was a sunny day. Despite the lingering chill of early spring, the temperature suddenly rose. It

was warm, even a bit hot.

Brooklyn said there was no need to buy a cake for Edwin as she had already bought one. She asked

Cordelia to bring some snacks for their picnic in the countryside, along with a picnic blanket and

foldable chairs. They discussed about the exact time and place, and what else they needed to bring.

Cordelia rarely went out, not to mention to the countryside. Looking at the green leaves outside the car

window, Cordelia felt refreshed and her mood lifted. Think about it, this was the first time she and

Ronan went out together.

After about an hour, the car stopped at the spot Brooklyn had chosen. It was a vast green field,

surrounded by mountains in the distance, with a river not far away. The scenery was beautiful.

"Mr. Evans, Cordelia, you're here? I'm just having a birthday, and it's so kind of Mr. Evans to come.

How can I thank you?" Edwin said to Ronan.

"She wanted me to come. Who am I to object?" Ronan jerked his head towards Cordelia.

"Yes. Mr. Evans has always been very good to Cordelia." Edwin also smiled.

Cordelia and Brooklyn exchanged glances. They thought that only they knew about Edwin's crush on

Cordelia. They didn't know that Ronan also knew. The only one who didn't know anything was Edwin.

He had always been quiet and didn't show any signs.

Cordelia always thought that it was all Brooklyn's speculation.
