The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 281

Chapter 281

Victoria breezed through the door.

She caught sight of Cordelia clutching Ronan's wrist, which took her by surprise a bit.

"What's going on, you two?" Victoria inquired.

"Wiping sweat." Ronan retorted casually, his gaze immediately reverted back to Cordelia's face.

"Are you going to keep your word?" Cordelia squinted at Ronan. The question clearly referred to her

plan of going abroad.

"When have I ever not kept my word?" Ronan responded, his tone challenging.

Cordelia let go of Ronan's wrist.

"If you want to get all lovey-dovey, do it back at home. This is a hospital." Victoria chimed in. She then

settled into a chair, picking up Cordelia's ultrasound report.

Cordelia breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Ronan's promise. She turned to Ronan, "Did I sweat?"

"A lot!" Ronan replied, either poking fun at Cordelia's anxiety or expressing genuine concern. He picked

up a napkin from Victoria's table and dabbed Cordelia's forehead. He had never done that before. NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

"The baby looks fine, no umbilical cord around the neck, and it looks like a natural birth should be easy.

Stay active." Victoria advised, scribbling down notes on Cordelia's medical record, "The baby is so well-

behaved, why did you want to abort it in the first place?"

Cordelia's gaze instinctively shot towards Ronan.

Ronan returned her glance.

On their way back to Garden Estates, Cordelia asked Ronan, "Why did you come?"

"Tristi told me about your check-up, so I just dropped by. No particular reason." Ronan said.

Cordelia sat in the back seat, her head turned towards the window. Ever since her pregnancy, she

seemed less vivacious than before. It could be the changes she had been through or the toll pregnancy

was taking on her.

Today, Ronan got a glimpse of Cordelia's struggles. "Why did you want to abort the baby? Can't you

stand them?" Ronan asked, his gaze meeting Cordelia's reflection in the rearview mirror.

Cordelia found a hint of despair in Ronan's words. It was a rarity in this powerful CEO. His tone

successfully stirred Cordelia's heart, like being pricked by a needle.

"The baby was entirely unexpected. I wanted to focus on my career. My academic journey was also

halted by the twins, which is overwhelming." Cordelia's voice was soft, "If it wasn't twins, I might have

gone through with the abortion."

"So, should they be grateful that they are twins?" Ronan asked again.

Cordelia remained silent.

"Have you thought about the baby's names?" Ronan asked.

Cordelia was taken aback, "Should we be thinking about names now? Can't we just think about it

later?"

Moreover, she was uncertain about the future, especially about what last name the babies should have.

Most likely, it should be her surname. But since Ronan had expressed his intention to raise the twins,

Cordelia's heart wavered. Should she tell Ronan the babies were his? If she didn't, what if he

mistreated them in the future?

In his eyes, the twins were Jamie's, his rival's children. Maybe he would raise the boy as a slave and

the girl as a prostitute. Ronan was capable of such things. Thinking about this, Cordelia grew anxious

again. The secret was becoming harder and harder to keep.

"Don't you have something to tell me?" Ronan asked Cordelia.

"No!" Cordelia replied.

"Alright, then I'll wait." Ronan smiled. It was a smile that seemed to say he was in control of everything.

His expression made Cordelia's heart flutter. It felt like back in school, when the teacher knew who

made a mistake but didn't reveal it, waiting for the guilty student to come forward. This created

immense psychological pressure on the student.

Cordelia didn't understand how things had turned out this way. What mistake had she made? Was it

wrong for her to hate him for causing her mother's death?

Cordelia felt that Ronan was setting her up again.
