Chapter 25

She was neither expecting Alex to make the announcement nor was she prepared for it. She was barely standing on her feet at this moment

“You must be joking Alex.”

“No mum. I’m not.” Alex said and held Claire’s hands to soothe her as he felt her shaking. He looked at their combined hands and looked back up at her and smiled at her, reassuring her.

Claire was still holding her breath. Mrs. Reynolds was speechless as she looked at Claire with so much malice

“I’ll be no party to this Alex. James, let’s go.” She said as she stormed out of the apartment.

As for James, he was speechless but in a ‘ I want this baby’ kind of way. He smiled nervously at Claire, then facing his son, he said

“I’ll talk to your mother. You know she always wants the best for you and so do I.”

“I understand dad. But help me let her know that I am now an adult and that I can make decisions for myself.”

“Okay. I’ll see myself out, so don’t bother seeing me off.”

Seeing James finally leave, Claire coughed, letting out the breath she had been holding.

Frightened, Alex made her sit down on a chair as he got water for bed to drink.

“Easy now Claire!!!”

“I’m fine Alex. But are you sure everything will be alright?” Claire said some minutes later after she had calmed down.

“I’ll make it alright baby. For you and for our baby, I’ll make every ugly thing go and give you only happiness.”

“But, your mother. She is…”

“Shh” Alex shut Claire mouth with a kiss and he deepened the kiss as Claire held him and moaned into his mouth.

Alex tried to disengage from the kiss but Claire held him back and whispered into his ears while kissing his earlobes.

“I want you Alex.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, right now. Please”

And Alex still kissing her, carried her and brought her to the room. He laid her on the bed gently and he pulled her clothes up.

He was ever so gently with her ever since she got pregnant. Just as if he was afraid of hurting the child in her.

Claire was drawing circles on Alex chest while be tries to even his breath. He pulled her to him, placing a kiss on her head.

A phone call came in and it was Daniel.

“Yes Daniel. Any leads yet?”

“Yes Alex. Though it is not clear yet, we need you to come to the office.”

“Okay, I’ll be right there.”

“What? What’s going on? What was Daniel saying?”

“There is a lead about the scandal and I’ll have to head to the office. Also, the investors need to hear from me.”

“Okay, I’m coming with you?” Claire already stood up and was heading to the bathroom before Alex could stop her.

“No Claire. You’ve gone through enough stress for today. I need you to stay here.”

“But I want to go with you.”

“There will be a bunch of reporters hanging around and they will be vicious. I can’t let you go through that. You have to stay here and wait for me.”

“No Alex. I’ll go out of my mind if I were to stay back, infact I’ll be more stressed staying here alone. Please let me go with you. Please.”

“Ugh woman. You make it hard to drive a bargain with you.”

Alex said moving her to the bathroom.

“Go in and shower. I’ll pick out your clothes for you, okay?”

“Thank you.”

Claire was all smiles as she made her way to the bathroom and stood under the shower. By the time she was done, Alex had laid out a floral gown for her.

“Here” Alex said passing a jacket to her “for the cold.”

“Thanks.” Claire said to him as he also headed to the bathroom to shower.

She was done dressing when Alex came out of the bathroom. He whistled as he admired her from head to toe.

“You are awesome baby.” He said planting a kiss on her lips. She giggled and pushed him away when he turned it to a real kiss.

“We’ll be keeping a lot of important people waiting if we keep at this.”

“I’m also an important person Claire.”

“Come on Alex. Not now.”

“I know. Just kidding.” He said as he patted her buttocks.

“I’ll be waiting in the living room. I don’t trust my hormones to stay here.” Claire said as she stepped outside the room.

She went to the kitchen and opened the freezer. She took out a bottle of water and was about to drink from it when Alex came out of the room.

“Stop… stop that Claire. No cold drinks, remember? You still had an ice cream last night. That is enough for two days.”

“O blimey. You’re a fun kill.”

“Yeah, I know. Let’s head out now. Important people are waiting for us.”

They both stepped out of their apartment and waited for the elevator.

When they got outside, he opened the car door for Claire, then he went to the other side, got in and drove off.

While en route, he dialed Daniel’s number. Daniel picked at the first ring.

“Any new development?”

“We caught the person who posted the pictures and news first.”

“Okay. We are on our way.”

“Alright sir.”

Claire reached out her hand and took Alex’s hand in hers and stroking it,

“Everything will work out fine.” She assured him.

Alex brought her hand to his lips and placed a kiss on it.

When they got to the office, there were reporters around and they ran and flocked around his car but there were also security guards around and they came to hold back the reporters.

There were shouts and questions were thrown at them
