Chapter 979
Juliana could never be his wife, so why did it matter who his wife was?
Brittany felt an unexpected pang in her heart when she heard this. She seldom sought out Yuri's company, yet at this moment, she felt a twinge of empathy for him.
She wrapped her arms around Yuri gently. "Dad, you've worked so hard all these years."
Yuri patted her cheek. "As long as you're doing alright, I've got peace of mind."
Yuri had a meeting that afternoon and left the Lynette Mansion early.
Come lunchtime, Brittany descended the grand staircase. She ran into Leila, who was lugging her suitcases.
Spotting Brittany, Leila dropped her luggage with a thud. "Brittany, feeling smug, are you?"Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Brittany's brow furrowed slightly. "Dad's divorce has nothing to do with me."
"Oh, please. If it wasn't for your mother, that homewrecker, seducing Yuri, he would've seen my worth decades ago!"
"Love works on a first-come, first-served basis," Brittany defended her mother. "As far as I know, my mom and dad were each other's first love. They've been together for ages. You, on the other hand, seem to be the other woman in their relationship."
"I am not the other woman. I am Yuri's lawfully wedded wife. Juliana will forever be the mistress!"
Leila wished Julianne were alive to witness that for thirty years, it was she, Leila, who resided in the Lynette name!
Brittany thought Leila had lost her mind and strode past her into the dining room.
Once Leila's belongings were packed, a servant drove her to a villa in her name. Though both were villas, compared to the grandeur of the Lynette Mansion, hers was a mere shadow.
As soon as Leila entered, she trashed the living room, her ordinarily well-maintained face twisted with rage. "Get someone on the phone. I want Brittany dead!"
Just like Juliana, straight to hell!
...
The news of Yuri's divorce spread like wildfire, even making the headlines.
To salvage their reputation, the Lynette family cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce.
Yuri met privately with Holden. "I've seen your capabilities over the years. Although you are under your mother's name, if you and Saskia want to stay with the Lynette family, you'll be well taken care of." Holden knew Yuri had wanted a divorce for a long time. "I'll continue with the Lynette Conglomerate. I've invested years here; I can't just walk away."
"Good, you're a good kid."
Yuri felt that the only good thing to come out of his marriage was Holden. He was incredibly smart and knew his place. Yuri couldn't help but admire him a bit more.
When Saskia got the news, she was briefly upset, but it just so happened that she found out she was pregnant.
The Brandt family was overjoyed, and even Mrs. Brandt warmed up to Saskia a bit.
Using her pregnancy as an excuse, Saskia didn't confront Leila at all. When Leila heard of Saskia's pregnancy, she merely sent over some health supplements.
In the divorce settlement, Yuri had given Leila a fair share of assets, enough to live comfortably. However, Dylan was pressing her for money - an amount in billions that she couldn't produce.
Leila's family refused to help, so Leila emptied her purse, coughed up a billion, and wrote an IOU to stop Dylan from suing.
Upon learning that Leila had only sent supplements, Saskia's expression soured, but she didn't show it. She used her discomfort as an excuse to retire upstairs.
"It seems Leila has been kicked to the curb by the Lynette family without much to her name," Mrs. Brandt scoffed.
Leila had made quite a few enemies in Craneville, riding on the coattails of the Lynette family. Now that she had fallen from grace, many were waiting to kick her while she was down. And just then, Saskia received a wedding invitation.
It was from Ophelia and Jonathan!
