Chapter 1224
Whimpers filled the air as little Henry let everyone know just how uncomfortable he was feeling.
"Oh, my precious little nephew, Auntie's sweet treasure. Let Auntie make it all better with a kiss. That scoundrel who hurt you, I'd take a knife to him if I could."
Everyone gathered around Henry, forming a tight protective circle.
Anya, usually the first to rush to him, stood patiently at the edge of the crowd. Only after both the Cedillo and Irvin families had expressed their concerns did she step forward. "Sweetie, how about a hug from your big sis?"
Later, Henry was back in Mia's arms. He turned his head, his chubby little face lighting up when he saw sister Anya. In the blink of an eye, recognizing her, he reached out his tiny arms and dove into Anya's embrace, comforted by her familiar hold.
Anya's lips curved downward with worry, reluctant to let go of Henry.
But when the doctor came to check him, no amount of holding seemed to help. Henry, now nervous around strangers, clung to his mom's dress, kicking his little legs, wanting only her comforting embrace. Not even his dad's presence could calm him.
Mia, holding her son, asked the doctor, "Can I hold him while you examine him?"
The doctor, worried that an adult's grip might harm Henry's delicate ears or brain, insisted on a thorough check-up.
Annie, concerned for her little sweetie, stubbornly followed to keep an eye on Henry during the examination.
The room was too small for everyone, so only the parents stayed inside, while a concerned crowd gathered outside the door.
Bruce arrived in a hurry, asking his wife, "How's he doing?"
Naomi replied, "The poor thing's been through a lot. Mia has to get checked too."
From the examination room, Henry's cries and coughs were audible, his sobs intense and heartbreaking.
After the examination, Henry was
lifted up by his dad, Andre, who
gently wiped away his tears with
loving gaze. He didn't say much, just held his son, his eyes full of warmth.
"I'm scared, Daddy," Henry whimpered.
Andre hugged him close. "Daddy's here, I'll always protect you. No need to be afraid."noveldrama
While waiting for the results, Mia and Annie also went through check-ups, despite Mia's insistence that she was fine. Everyone was adamant about the check-ups.
In the end, Annie had a few bruises. Mia remarked, "See, I told you I was fine. Annie only got hurt because
she was holding a gun and didnt
en."
standa chance against those Annie hated firing her gun in front of Henry and wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary. Plus, she was exhausted from nearly two days without rest while chasing a criminal, which left her at a disadvantage.
By the time they left the hospital, it was already dark.
Coleen called her kids to check in, "...Molly, your dad and I brought Wayne back to the Byrne house. If
you and Chad are free tonight come over, if not, I can watch the kids for you."
Leaving the hospital, Annie was patched up with ointment and was supposed to head back to the Cedillo house for safety. But she said, "I'm heading back to the station."
"Annie, come home with us. Conner will definitely come pick you up," Mia called out.
Annie shook her head, "He'll find me at the station."
After dropping Annie off at the station, her team came out to greet her, making sure she was safe.
The Cedillo family returned home, relieved that Henry hadn't suffered any serious injuries.
Mia quickly called Jamie to let him know they were okay. Jamie, sitting in his rental, finally felt at ease hearing Mia's voice.
At seven, Conner's plane touched down, coincidentally just as another flight landed.
