The next day soon arose; Shawn insisted that he rides with me so that we would reach college

together.

" I do not understand why did you lie to Alicia regarding our relationship?" I asked as I fixed my position

inside the car.

" The news would have spread sooner or later, we were seen together yesterday. Also, everyone would

be wondering about how we were connected. I had to give them an explanation...,” he explained.

" Why didn't you provide a good explanation then? This one would create a lot of trouble. In addition, it

is not true... You have said that you don't want us to be an issue. Why change your mind?"

" Cuz it is fun,"

This conversation was beginning to give me a headache. I stepped out of the car, today we had an

exam and the English debate that we have prepared for this last week. Shawn was walking by my side

adjusting his footsteps to my pace. He was even holding my backpack that he managed to steal from

me earlier.

All eyes were staring at us; they were chitchatting with us as their main topic. Shawn ensured me that

Alicia's boyfriend will not be able to say a single word about what happened yesterday since it would

just expose his dirty deeds and ruin his family's reputation.

It seemed that Shawn could not control the statements of his friends though who told everyone about

how Shawn beat him so hard and because they couldn't be able to say the reason why it will cause

everyone to link it to the reason for my presence that day. I started doubting whether Shawn's

interference was actually of any help.

Alicia was taking a break from college, she informed us on the group chat that he wanted to break up

with her. We tried to console her as hard as we could, we felt very bad for her. Penny soon showed up

in front of both of us.

" There is not a single soul who is not talking about you guys." he started.

" It's all thanks to a certain someone." I spat out glaring at Shawn who was smirking to my face.

“ Hilarious, I like to be where the light spot is.” Penny laughed.

Time passed and it was time for our English debate. I had to argue how is gambling is beneficial when I

know for sure that this is not the case. Shawn kept speaking on my behalf; I bet he felt bad for what he

did.

He should not have teased me this way, to begin with, now he is acting all meek as if he was the

gentlest person on earth. I forgive him though since he turned out this cute.

We finished our class and we were on our way home, Shawn was driving me this time.

" I am sorry for the debate..." he began.

" It is not that big of a deal, believe me. I don't really care about what happened in the past anymore.

Dad is a part of my past, thanks to your dad, I don't have to see him." I started knowing that Shawn

would understand where this is coming from, after all, he probably knows whatever Gerald does.

" I am still feeling bad about it..."

" If that is true then how about you do me a favor?"

" You can set me free, Shawn. Just by faking to work for a while, I won't ask for more." I added.

" I know you don't want to work but do it for me. It won't be for long, just until this semester end, your

father tears the receipt of my dad's debt and I regain my freedom." I continued.

" I can do it with a sole condition." he finally replied.

" Which is?"

" That you date me..." he uttered while parking the car in the garage.

" I do not want to become your next toy, Shawn, We come from different worlds, others in college might

be tricked but you know it better than anyone. We can't date, and I will never agree to fall in love with

you." I clarified.

" You make it sound as if you are pressing a button, Lily. I know you are already attracted to me."

" Who said that?"

" I did..." he replied confidently and he was unfortunately right.

" I am telling you it won't work out, I don't like your personality as well. Don't forget that you also have

some serious anger issues." I reminded him as I stepped out of the car.

" Says the one who was about to hit that asshole to his grave." He chuckled.

" You think I am? I love you, Lily." He said as we were walking upstairs heading to our respective

rooms.

I froze in my place slowly turning around to face him, his facial reaction did not change, it was as if he

said ' food is ready, Lily'.

" You think love is a joke, Shawn. You are being unreasonable. It has been a few days since I arrived

and you are confessing already after you have caused me several troubles. Would you think anyone

would be convinced with that? I don't believe in your love." I retorted angrily at his behavior. He was

treating the whole thing as if it was a prank.

" Let me prove to you that I love you then... I will do as you asked, work until dad's satisfied, and then

ask you to Marry Me." he clarified huskily.

Is he really being serious, I can't get myself to believe him and I didn't know whether it was because of

the weird turn of events or because I am insecure. Why would someone like him come to like me? He

would just like my face, my body, or my reactions. He does not really love me; I kept reminding myself

of that statement.

This man keeps confusing me; my heart was beating faster as I imagined us together. My insecurity is

my greatest obstacle but that is an issue that can be solved, can't it?
