Chapter 818
Chapter 818:
“Took you long enough,” he said, a glass vial with a swirling silver liquid pinched between his fingers.
“Get him!” one of the men barked.
But Verruckt just waved the vial with a mocking flourish. “You can come closer if you want, but I suggest you think twice. If Josh’s precious drug hits the floor, how will you explain that mess?”
The men’s eyes widened in shock. Their leader swallowed nervously. “Let’s talk this out, Mr. Shaw. No need for violence.”
Verruckt sneered. “Oh really? Then prove it.”
Begrudgingly, the leader gestured for his men to lower their weapons. “We can negotiate. Just put the vial down.”
“What if I don’t?” Verruckt taunted.
The leader fought to keep his cool. “Then it could break so easily.”
Though uncertain of the vial’s contents, Josh had insisted it was vital.
“Verruckt, break that, and you won’t walk out of here alive. You get that, right?”
It was a clear threat, yet Verruckt ignored it, leisurely twirling the vial. “Want it? Come and try taking it.”
Just then, a woman’s irate voice echoed from outside. “What are you all up to?” Everyone turned.
Fiona stood there, fuming, her gown marred by streaks of dust. She had clearly made a stealthy escape.
The leader, recognizing her instantly, felt his stomach knot with anxiety. “Miss Smith, this isn’t a place for you,” he warned.
But Fiona was seething. “I came anyway! Did my father send you to kill him?”
The leader found himself cornered, unable to speak freely. His silence was telling. He wouldn’t dare act without orders.
“Miss Smith, you should ask Mr. Smith. I’m not at liberty to discuss this.”
His evasive reply did little to obscure the truth. To Fiona, his words rang as an admission of guilt. Her eyes widened with shock. “What? My father has been lying to me!”
She turned to Verruckt, her eyes pleading. “I’m sorry, I had no idea my father wanted you dead. But I promise, I won’t let it happen.”noveldrama
She knew the Immortality Group coveted the experimental drug. It must be what Verruckt was holding.
“Verruckt, can you give it to me? If you hand it over, I might be able to secure your safety.”
The only way Fiona could think of was to exchange his safety with the drug. The men in black, wary of Fiona’s stature, cautiously lowered their guns.
