“Explain what?” Colton’s voice cracked, disappointment etching deep lines across his face as he stared at Melany. “Allison was the one who saved me five years ago, but you swept in and took all the credit!” His heart felt like it was in a vice.

“Melany, our entire relationship started on a lie. You’ve been shadowing me, snapping photos like some detective.”

The evidence stacked against her was rock-solid, boxing her into a corner. Yet, as the weight of his words sank in, a sliver of hope sparked in her eyes. He hadn’t found the other folders, so he didn’t know that she had also gathered information on other rich men!

Tears brimmed in her eyes as she stammered, “Colton, my love for you… it’s too much. I just can’t—” But Colton cut her off, his voice sharp.

“Your love? Melany, do you love me, or my wealth and power? You twisted everything so I’d turn against Allison! Why did you trick me into believing Allison was a bad woman?”

He inhaled deeply, struggling to steady his voice.

Tears carved paths down her cheeks as she faced him, a bitter irony in her gaze. “Could Allison ever care for you as deeply as I do?”
