Chapter 118 Jack Hall

"What did you just call me?" Lily looked at Avery in disbelief. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

"Mrs. White, have you forgotten that you and my father divorced over a decade ago? Now that you're

married to Mr. White, I should just call you Mrs. White, shouldn't I? What's wrong?"

Avery had never been so indifferent previously, and she was still kind of nice to Lily just after Lily

returned to the country, unlike she was now. It seemed as if Avery had turned into a sharp-tongued

person within a short time.

"Avy, you've changed. How can you say something like this? No matter what, I'm your mother," Lily

sighed.

"Yes, I have changed. It's only now that I realize how nasty and selfish people can be. If I had

understood this earlier, I wouldn't have wasted years missing my mom on dark nights and waiting for a

person who is never coming back."

"Avy, I'm sorry. I'm back now, and I'll try my best to make it up to you, for real," Lily promised.

Avery looked at the face in front of her, and honestly, she couldn't really remember what her mother

had looked like back then.

There were some signs of aging on Lily's face compared to her in the photos, but her appearance

hadn't changed much. Nonetheless, she gave Avery a totally different feeling from the mother in

Avery's memory.

"When you wanted to ditch me, you left me alone. And now you claim that you want to compensate me.

Mrs. White, have you ever thought that I don't even need your da*n compensation? When I needed

warmth the most, you weren't there. Now, I've gone through all the hardships on my own. Even if you

were to give me tons of warmth, you'd never be able to melt my hard heart."

"Avy, my dear...." Lily wanted to explain.

Avery cut her off. "Mrs. White, your daughter is right over there. I don't deserve to be your daughter."

Some people in this world were born for love, and Lily just happened to be one of them. She didn't love

Martin, so she could just leave everything behind when Ben came to pick her up.

Over the years, Avery had never heard from Lily, not even getting a phone call or any caring words

from her.

So many years had passed. Now, Lily finally remembered she had a daughter and wanted to give her

the so-called compensation.

But Avery no longer wanted that.

Avery looked at the splendid hall that was full of noises.

Those seemingly respectable people all seemed to have wicked hearts.

At this point, Avery didn't need any da*n family affection. Nor did she need love.

She just wanted to do one thing.

She wanted to make Jacob suffer and be trapped in a lifetime of pain.

At the thought of that scene, Avery couldn't help but smirk.

Jacob had noticed Avery since she showed up. She wanted to attend the banquet, so he had prepared

a few dresses for her.

There were colors such as pale pink, bright red, sky blue, and creamy yellow, but no white.

Avery wore a well-cut white floor-length gown, her hair gelled back with a white veil on her head.

The veil was made of some transparent material, with shiny diamond fragments falling from it. When

the lights shone on them, they sparkled brightly.

Avery wore a pair of diamond earrings that were simple yet classy like a lonely white rose in the rain.

It made people pity her and want to get close to her, but they also knew they might get stabbed by her

thorns.

She was like some masterpiece that one could only look at from afar but never touch.

Feeling Jacob's gaze, Avery shook her wine glass and smirked at him.

"Are you Avery?" A clear suddenly rang out.

Avery shifted her gaze away from Jacob and checked out the man next to her. It was a young man in a

white suit around her age, looking so noble as if he were the favorite little son of a king.

Maybe he wasn't the most powerful, but he was definitely the most handsome and refined one.

"Who are you?" Avery asked.

Seeing Avery looking at him, the man got a little nervous and quickly explained, "I'm Jack Hall. We met

when we were kids. Remember? Your family's cat chased me up a tree, and I was too scared to come

down."
