Sarah was still reluctant, unhappy with the fact that Avery could always become the center of attention
whenever Avery showed up.
Andrew walked up in a gentlemanly manner. "Hi, Avery! It's really rare to meet you on an occasion like
this."
"Hello, Andrew!" Avery politely greeted him. "I used to hate going to this kind of event. And later, after
my family went broke, there was no chance for me to attend them."
"Come on, Avery! You can just casually throw around one hundred million. If you didn't even have the
chance, then nobody on this ship would do." Despite knowing the relationship between Avery and
Jacob, Andrew did not spill the beans about it and just secretly winked at her.
Avery was well aware that Andrew had found out something by checking the surveillance earlier.
Just when Avery was about to speak, Sarah's voice dripped with sarcasm as she chimed in, "I told you,
Andrew. With Avery's stunning look, she must have latched onto a rich old guy. Avery, I haven't heard
of any old geezers kicking the bucket lately. How could you curse your husband before he's dead?
That's just downright nasty."
In Sarah's opinion, Avery was keeping her husband's identity under wraps because Avery had married
an old man. "If her husband were a rich brat, I don't believe she wouldn't show off," thought Sarah to
herself.
"Sarah, stop talking sh*t in front of everyone!" Andrew shot daggers at Sarah.
It pissed Sarah off. "Andrew, why the h*ll are you always protecting her? Do you want to marry her
when she becomes a widow, huh? Your father won't let you marry this kind of woman."
"You're going too far, Sarah!" Andrew snapped. Then, in a gentlemanly manner, he suggested, "Avery,
why don't you head inside first? It's freaking cold out here on the deck." This was not a good place for
them to have a chat.
Avery couldn't be bothered to talk with Sarah, nodded, and walked away. Back in school, Sarah had
also pestered Avery relentlessly like a mad dog.
"Andrew, you have a crush on her, right? Back in school, you even secretly wrote love letters to her. I
knew it!" Sarah snarled.
Andrew looked at Avery, who had walked into a distance. She was out of his league, no matter back
then or now.
Back in those early school days, Andrew was just one of those who had a crush on her.
He had not really fallen madly in love with her or anything. He had just palpitated for her in the school
days.
When Andrew entered society and worked his a*s off every day, he no longer had those pure feelings.
Those simple, pure feelings had been buried deep within, and there was no way he was ever going to
fantasize about it again.
Now that Andrew knew Avery's identity, he naturally had to show some more respect. He exchanged a
few words with some folks and then chased after Avery.
Spotting Avery, Layla felt even more pain, and her face darkened.
As soon as Layla closed her eyes, she couldn't help but think of the ridiculous scene where Avery had
smeared Layla's face with batter.
Lily, on the other hand, gave a big smile upon seeing Avery approaching and hurriedly made her way
over to Avery.
"Avy, I'm so happy that you can come. Why did you suddenly have your hair cut? But my dear, you're
such a natural beauty. You look gorgeous with both long and short hair."
Lily was extremely enthusiastic. When Avery was a kid, she had craved this kind of motherly love.
When Avery was sick and feverish at that time, all she wanted was her mom's embrace.
But Lily had left her alone and gone abroad, ending up as Layla's stepmother.
Avery had moved on from that phase a long time ago and even had a problem with Lily.
"Does it even matter to you if my hair's long or short?" Avery cast a casual glance at Lily. "Mrs. White,
you haven't even bothered sending me a hair tie over the years. Don't you feel embarrassed when you
pretend to be a caring mother in front of me now? Anyway, when I hear your sudden caring words, I'm
so da*n embarrassed that I even feel sick."
