Reborn From Oblivion

Nathalie marched over and casually nudged Benjamin out of the way. She plopped down next to Morris, not bothered at all by the dirt. With a little flair, she pulled a steaming, foil-wrapped roast chicken from her crossbody bag. "I left in such a rush, didn't have time to pack more for you," she said almost apologetically. "I've only got some roast chicken. Want some?"

Morris looked at her, his eyes tinged with a bit of hurt. For three long years, Nathalie hadn't come to see him. Officer Baldwin said she was too wrapped up in her high-flying life, probably wanting to keep her distance. Ashley mentioned she had a string of young, successful admirers and had likely forgotten about him. Yet Morris held onto hope, sure that his Nathalie wouldn't just leave him behind.

"This... it's what I liked three years ago. I'm over it now," Morris said, turning away. Nathalie was caught off guard.

Benjamin chimed in with a smirk, "Ms. Stewart, give it up with my brother. He's not the type to be swayed by riches or interested in your business empire."

Morris shot Benjamin a look that could kill, clearly annoyed at his meddling.

Nathalie's eyes began to well up. Was Morris upset she hadn't been there for him these past years? But she'd been caring for him from afar! She thought being too open about it might lead to gossip and misunderstandings, which could damage his reputation. She was only looking out for him. Turns out, he didn't care about all that nonsense anyway.

Realizing this, Nathalie's face lit up with a bright smile. "Hang tight, I'll get you something you love."

She dashed across the street to a nearby bakery and came back with a couple of big pastries. Sitting next to Morris, she handed him one. "Here's your favorite."

She gently helped Morris sit up. He took the pastry, gave her a sidelong glance, then broke it in half and offered a piece back to her. Nathalie accepted with a grin and eagerly stuffed it into her mouth. Morris, on the other hand, took a small, refined bite.

Nathalie found his demeanor intriguing; no matter what, he carried himself with a certain dignity. Unlike her, who still gobbled her food with gusto showing her lack of

sophistication despite her wealth. "So good," Nathalie said, almost choking on her bite.

"Got any water?" Morris asked.

Choking, Nathalie pointed to her bag. Morris rummaged through, pulled out her small water bottle, and unscrewed the cap for her. She took a quick sip, finally getting the pastry down.

Morris shook his head with a soft sigh but affectionately patted her back.

The Rowland Corporation father and son watched them, a mix of

emotions on their faces. Noticing them, Nathalie turned to Morris and asked Nathan, wanna go with them?" She gestured towards Gavin with a nod of her chin.

Morris shook his head firmly.

Seeing his clear resistance, Nathalie turned to the Rowland Corporation duo and said, “You both can leave now. As long as I'm here, no one's gonna make him do what he doesn't want to."

Realizing they were out of their depth, the Rowland Corporation father and son left, clearly disappointed.
