Painful seduction

Caught in the act

“These are the records ma’am.” The manager said as he gave her some files, they looked like they were recent and new. The papers weren’t even ruffled at all.

“Why do I think this was done recently?” Cathy asked.

” Because it was done recently, ma’am, about a week ago. The fire had damaged some of the records we kept so that’s why we had to do new records.” The manager explained.

” When was the fire?” The question was from Nelly, she had already started going through each file while she listened to them.

He answered and Cathy’s hands froze, that was the same day her parents died in the car crash, Nelly understood why Cathy looked flushed. She could also remember what had happened.

“Did my mother ever come here ?” Cathy asked, not knowing why she asked.

“Yes…she used to work here.” He answered.

“Something must have been in those records and that was why it was destroyed.” She turned to say to Nelly who was already halfway through the files. Cathy was surprised, she had not even noticed Nelly for a long time.

“Can you show us her office?” Nelky asked.

“I’m really sorry ma’am but I can’t do that.

“What? Do you have an idea of who you are talking to?” Nelly barked at him.

“I know who you are but we have an order from your father in-law not to let you in and he has the keys.” He answered with his head bent, avoiding eye contact with both women.

“Why will he try to hide the truth from me, first he lied and now he’s trying to hide the truth from me?”

“Are you still surprised Cathy? I told you about your Father-in-law, he is a very cunning .”

” I request you show us my mother’s office or I will make you lose your job this second.” She threatened and with the look on her face, the manager knew she meant it.

” I’m sorry ma’am but I don’t have the keys to the office.”

“We don’t need the keys now. I just want to see her office.” She said without thinking.

Reluctantly, he led them to another corner of the building. It looked abandoned, the painting was old and it was dusty. There was only one door and she guessed it was the office which belonged to her mum.

” This is the office. The key isn’t here but it uses some kind of security number.” He explained. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

“You can leave. We would manage on our own.” Cathy ordered and he turned to leave.

As soon as he Left, Cathy decided to try out the same key combination she had used to open the case in Chester’s mansionLuckily it opened, and they pushed their way into it. The room was dustier than the view outside. It looked like no one had stepped there for years.

Cathy coughed hard as she exhaled dust,

” Sorry…try to use something on your nose.” Nelly advised.

Even though sometimes she acted mean and didn’t want to agree she cared about anyone, Cathy knew she had a kind heart and she was grateful for having someone like Nelly.

She agreed and brought out her face wipes, it wasn’t healthy because she couldn’t breath but she had to try. She had to make this sacrifice in order to find the truth.

“Look that way while I go through the office drawers if I can find anything.” Cathy had said to Nelly.

Cathy began to search the drawers but there was nothing to be found, she looked worried because she guessed the Manager must have informed Mr. Anderson that she was here and in no time he would be rushing there to order them out.

“Hey… Cathy come over.” Nelly had called out to Cathy, waving a pile of letters.

“What? You found something?”

” Yes…these are letters.”

“What kind of letters? Your mum was having an affair with Mr. Anderson.” She revealed.

“What?” That can’t be true.” She said as she quickly snatched the papers from her and skimmed through the contents. Nelly was right, they were letters which her mum and Mr. Anderson had written to each other, she could still recognize his handwriting. On one of the letters there was a rose which was attached, Nelly took it and sniffed it.

“It has her scent.”

Cathy looked jealous, someone could recognize her mother’s perfume but she who was a daughter couldn’t do that.

” Why would they write letters to each other when they can do everything face to face?”

” I really don’t know. Maybe my mum was married to Mr. Anderson.”

“No…I doubt that. Search some more, maybe we can find other clues.”

Cathy found a phone next, the phone didn’t look like it was spoiled so she decided to turn it on.

It turned in but the battery was low, but they were able to go through and found some recording. Cathy could only listen to one recording before it went off.

In the record, it was a man who was Mr. Anderson, he had cursed a woman who Nelly had identified as Cathy’s mum. In the recording, he had threatened to make her life miserable after she left him on their wedding day to follow his best friend because of his wealth.

They had solved one Mystery, Cathy sighed in relief. Now they understand, her mum was Mr. Anderson’s lover but she had left him to marry her father.

“But why did she send letters to him?”

“Check the dates Nelly. These letters were before she got married.”

“Yeah…maybe that’s why he wants your father’s wealth. A revenge for taking his lover.”

“Now we are getting somewhere.” Cathy for the first time in 40 minutes had a bright smile.

” We really need to hurry up before Mr. Anderson comes. I know he will get here soon.” Cathy had already started arranging the files she had scattered.

“Are the letters important, Cathy? Should I take them?”

“No…this device is fine. Please hurry up before he comes here.” She was already scared as she was already having goosebumps.

“It’s too late.” They heard, as the doors flung open.
