Chapter 51 You’re So Skilled at Inverting Right and Wrong
Lacey was too stunned to move.
What was that sound?
Was that a moan?
Who would dare to do something inappropriate in the Garrison's residence?
Lacey frowned. Could it be that she had heard it wrong?
She approached slowly and with suspicion.
A rockery served as adornment in the bamboo grove.
The rockery was hollow, and one could walk through it to the other side.
In magazines, she'd read that the Garrisons owned a rockery where people could cross over to another
dimension.
Behind was the Garrison's colorful garden, home to various precious flowers.
One second, a person was in azure green. The next thing they knew, they'd be greeted by a colorful
and fragrant world.
Back then, such a design was listed in magazines as the most stunning.
However, as it was winter, there were only branches in the garden and no flowers in bloom. Hence,
there wasn't much to see.
No one would come here, logically speaking.
In addition, all the women attending the party dressed in the most elaborate formal attire.
If they went outside, they would surely freeze to death!
"A-Ah! Mmm! Wait, slow down—"
The sound of moaning had become noticeably louder.
Lacey frowned as she cautiously approached the rockery.
Then, like a thief, she leaned in slowly.
What she saw next took her breath away.
It was her!
Madeleine!
"Mmmm~ W-we should stop. What if someone shows up?" Madeleine sounded a little anxious, yet she
couldn't get enough.
Meanwhile, the man's voice was agitated as he said, "Everyone's still socializing in the main hall. Who
would come here? Besides, I miss you."
Madeleine gasped as she wrapped her arm around the man's shoulder. "W-we can arrange to meet
outside at a later time. This is the Garrison's house, after all—Wait, a-ah!"
The man moved so much that her words broke off.
"It's because we're in the Garrison's house that I want to do this. Don't you think this is exciting? Huh?"
The man chuckled smugly.
"You're so annoying—" Madeleine's voice trembled. Her face rose to red.
Lacey was shocked to see this.
Madeleine had a lover?
A smile escaped her lips the next second.
Bailey, oh Bailey. Never in a million years would he have guessed he'd be cheated one day!
God was on her side, after all!
Just as she grinned wryly, the stone she was clutching came loose.
"Crumble!" The stone fell.
Just like that, the voices from behind the rockery stopped.
"Who's there?"
From behind came the sound of trousers zipped up, followed by the sound of footsteps.
Lacey was terrified. She panicked and couldn't hide in time.
Just as she was overwhelmed, a large hand grabbed her arm and pulled her through.
......
With a 180 degree turn, two figures leaned against the back of the rockery.
Lacey looked at the person in a daze.
It was Sam!
What was he doing in this place?
Right before she could react, Sam suddenly reached out and waved a hand.
Immediately, the eagle resting on the bamboo grove came at full speed.
Eventually, it landed on his fingers.
Sam didn't have any gloves on. As a result, the eagle landed so hard that it accidentally left a scar on
his wrist.
Even so, Sam acted as if nothing had happened. He grabbed the eagle and threw it forward.
The eagle flapped its wings as it flew to the front of the rockery.
Slowly, it flew back to the bamboo grove.
"Who is it?" Madeleine rushed out.
"Don't worry. It's just an eagle." The man sounded relieved.
Madeleine frowned, still worried that someone might be coming. She suggested, "We should go back.
It'll be bad if we're spotted."
"All right." The man agreed this time.
Soon after, the two vanished from sight.
Meanwhile, Lacey's eyelashes twitched as she noticed Sam's bleeding wrist. "Why did you help me?"
she asked, her face expressionless.
Sam lifted a grin. He cocked his head to the other side, his eyes as dark as a never-ending black hole.
"I never knew you had a thing for eavesdropping."
Lacey paused for a moment, her face gradually turning red. "What do you mean by eavesdropping? I'm
just strolling around the backyard. Is it a crime?"
Chuckled, she went on to say, "You seemed free. What are you doing here instead of accompanying
Lillianna? Is there some other reason you've come?"
Lacey reached out and pushed Sam away after saying that.
She then fixed her pretty hair, which the wind had messed up.
The shifted expression on her face amused Sam. A faint smile rose in his eyes.
This young lady was certainly something else.
She should have felt guilty about being caught snooping around.
Yet, she managed to get out of the situation and turned the tables on him.
The situation ended with her being open and honest while he acted suspiciously.
Lacey cocked her head and looked at him. Her eyes once again fell on his injured wrist. With a slight
smile, she said, "Thank you for helping me earlier, Sam. In return, I won't tell Lillianna that you were out
hanging around or that you were hiding something. Don't worry. I won't tell her anything!"
Sam sneered and stepped forward to grab her by the waist.
His other hand pressed against her face, forcing her to look at him.
"Lacey, I had no idea you're so skilled at inverting right and wrong." Sam sneered. NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
Lacey smiled faintly. She wasn't angry at all. She didn't even try to avoid looking him in the eyes.
Instead, her starry gaze had a wry look in them.
Lacey lowered her head slightly. She extended her hand and slowly reached to button his shirt.
Sam stayed motionless but kept his eye on her.
A slight smile lifted on her face as she carefully buttoned his shirt. She said, "Sam, you and I are the
same kind of people. What good does it do you to hide?"
Lacey looked up at the man.
"Oh?" Sam raised his eyebrows, indicating for her to continue.
"You knew Lillianna's true colors, yet you continue to act as if you don't. Are you trying to tell me how
much you love her, or are you up to something else?" Lacey giggled.
Right after she said that, Sam's eyes clouded over. He lifted her chin up almost so that her lips met his.
In an ambiguous tone, he said, "Go on."
"Go on with what? I'm sorry, but I'm not intelligent enough to comprehend what you mean. I can't figure
out what you're up to, Mr. Garrison. What is it about the Carters that worthy of your acting?"
With that said, Lacey smiled faintly and pushed his hand away. She then pulled out a napkin from her
pocket and wiped her chin. "I'm not interested in learning what your intention is, Mr. Garrison. Besides,
I don't belong to the Carter family. Hence—"
She gave him a deadly stare and warned, "Whatever you do, please leave me out of it. I'm not part of
them. Good-bye!"
Lacey tossed the napkin to the ground.
She left with her head held high.
Sam's eyes were covered in ink at this point, stained like endless darkness.
......
Back in the main hall, Lacey was still anxious.
She had yet to recover from the shock.
It was not the discovery of Madeleine's affair that frightened her.
Rather, it was because she was caught in the act of snooping.
"Lacey." Someone called out to her at that very moment.
"Ah!" Lacey was taken aback and couldn't help but scream.
Theo couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. "What are you doing? Am I that scary?"
Lacey looked at Theo, the corners of her mouth twitching slightly. "No, no, I was zoning out. I hadn't
come back to my senses when you called me." She tried to explain.
"Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you!" Theo frowned. "I was about to go ask
your father."
"You saw him?" Lacey asked hurriedly.
"Yes, he's talking to my uncle and has called my parents over as well. I wonder if they're deciding on a
wedding date!"
Lacey nodded, seemingly uninterested.
"Hey, they're playing a game over there! The winner will get a prize! Let's go and check it out!"
Suddenly, someone shouted.
Many guests rushed over when they heard that.
"Lacey, let's go take a look." Theo invited her.
Lacey nodded. Madeleine enjoyed joining in on the fun. She'd go where there were lots of people.
Although Lacey knew Madeleine was having an affair, she hadn't been able to see the man's face.
......
She had to find out who he was!
That way, she'd have something on Madeleine.
Following Theo, they soon came to another hall.
Alas, the Garrison family was indeed wealthy. They had countless grand halls.
A large group was seen gathered in the middle. The curtains were drawn, and the lights were dim.
The host on stage was brought in from South City TV. He took the microphone and said, "This is known
as the paper game, and it's easy to play. A group of people will form a circle and pass the paper around
using their mouths. If the paper falls or a participant's lips touch someone else's, they'll be eliminated.
The final two winners will receive a total of $300,000 in prize money!"
"Woah!" An uproar erupted from the crowd.
Though it was only a small game, the prize money was worth 300,000 dollars.
The Garrisons were truly wealthy!
"Come on, everyone, step forward, please!" The host came down from the stage, stood in the center,
and said to everyone while holding a piece of white paper.
The crowd exchanged glances, and only a few went up.
Meanwhile, Lacey's eyes cut through the crowd and immediately spotted Madeleine.
She was across the hall, with a man next to her.
The man leaned to the side, holding a wine glass in his hand. He had a smile on his face and was chit-
chatting.
The lights were not bright, and there were a lot of people. Lacey couldn't see his face.
Who on earth was that man?
She strolled forward.
Just a little more, and she'd be able to see his face!
"And you belong here!" Lacey froze when the host grabbed her arm and pulled her up the stage.
Upon seeing this, Theo rushed up to the stage.
"Okay, 20 people is enough for a group. Let's start the game!"
More than 20 people encircled the stage and began passing the piece of paper with their mouths.
Lacey frowned. What kind of stupid game was this?
"Don't worry, it's a girl in front of you, and you've got me in the back. Nothing is going to happen. So
don't worry, okay?" Theo smiled. He seemed delightful for some reason.
"All right," Lacey said faintly, returning her gaze to the outer circle.
Madeleine was seen smiling happily in the distance, as was the man next to her. Still, all she saw was
his side profile.
Lacey frowned. Had she seen that man somewhere before?
Turn around and let her have a look!
"Hey!" Just then, someone nudged her arm.
Lacey was startled and looked back. The girl in front of her was trying to pass a piece of paper through
her mouth.
Having no choice, Lacey leaned close and took the paper with her mouth.
She then turned around, trying to pass it over to Theo.
Meanwhile, Theo grinned, and his eyes were full of smiles.
What if he dropped the piece of paper?
Wouldn't that mean he'd be able to—
What a brilliant idea!
Theo couldn't help but smile at the thought of it.
Right when he was smiling foolishly, Lacey nudged him on the arm, signaling him to pick up the piece
of paper.
Theo snapped back to his senses. He leaned down quickly then deliberately blew the paper away.
Quietly, the paper slipped from Lacey's mouth.
He could see her pink, rosy lips right in front of him.
Without hesitation, Theo closed his eyes and pouted—
