My Mute Wife

Chapter 62 Let Me Go, You Marry Edith

“I’ve already taken the prescription to have it rationed and analyzed, if this prescription is true, I’ll let bygones be bygones for what happened before,” Alan’s voice fell on her ears, Lexie was flustered.

The corner of Alan’s eyes swept over a corner of the ward, where piled with some fruit and flowers.

“Someone came to see you?”

Lexie’s heart stuttered and she tried to suppress her nervous look.

[My friend came by.]

Alan didn’t seem to think much about it, “Since you’re injured, stay in the hospital for two more days and go back home when you’ve recuperated.”

[No, I can be discharged tomorrow.]

“Tomorrow?” Alan looked at her gauze-wrapped foot and cut to the chase, “No.”

[I still have to go back to work at the library.]

“No worries, I have asked leave for you.”

At those words, Lexie looked stunned.

Alan seemed to be different from his usual self today.

As they were talking, the door opened, “Alan, when did you get here?”

Edith’s voice interrupted the conversation between the two.

As soon as Lexie heard Edith’s voice, her foot was in pain like a conditioned reflex.

Alan frowned, displeased, “Why didn’t you knock at the door?”

Edith spat her tongue at him, a look of extreme intimacy and familiarity with Alan, and pouted, “I forgot, it’s because I know you’re here, I’m especially happy. You’d been away for so many days, and you didn’t even answer my phone.”

Alan looked perfunctory, “I was rather busy because of the meeting.”

“I understand, work is important,” she stood in the doorway for a moment and suddenly looked at Lexie, her tone warning, “Sis, you need to rest more since you’re injured, why are you still running around? People in the hospital are talking about it.”

Lexie pursed her lips and didn’t say a word.

No wonder Edith came so quickly.

“Anything wrong?” Alan looked at Edith.

“Can’t I come to you if nothing is wrong?” Edith immediately turned back, smoothly pulled out the chair and sat down, “Actually, I received Tina’s invitation yesterday, she will be engaged at the end of the month. Alan, you have no female companion, I have no male companion, let’s go together. ”

Hearing these words, Lexie looked dark and silently clenched her fingers, she was very self-aware.

But it was too bullying for Edith to say that in front of her.

Alan glanced at her and said with a sideways glance, “Let Kevin accompany you.”

“Why?”

“I have female company, I can’t go with you.”

Edith’s face changed and she said sharply, “How is that possible? Who is it? How come I don’t know?”

A hint of impatience surfaced on Alan’s face as he looked at Edith, “Is it very questionable who my female companion is?”

“You mean …,” Edith blushed and subconsciously looked at Lexie.

How come Alan brought Lexie with him?

Lexie was also surprised and unbelievable.

Edith gritted her teeth and was still undeterred “But isn’t my sister injured? She shouldn’t be able to go.”

“There’s no rush, the engagement party is at the end of the month, there’s still time to go.”

A sentence blocked Edith’s speech.

Looking at Alan’s cold face, Edith suddenly thought of something and said to Lexie, “Sis, did you say something to Alan?”

“You got hurt because you failed to hold the cup yourself, you can’t falsely accuse me!”

Lexie frowned.

For a moment, she didn’t know whether to call Edith stupid or bad.

Alan’s face changed as he looked at Edith and questioned, “Lexie got injured because of you?”

Edith was shocked and panicked for a moment, “No, I didn’t mean that, Alan, it has nothing to do with me. They wronged me, that woman even twisted my arm, I …”

“That’s enough!” Coldness covered Alan’s brow.

Looking at Alan’s expression, Edith fell like in an abyss, “Alan, don’t misunderstand, I’ll explain.”

After the words were said, Edith gave Lexie another warning glance before she hurried away.

The door to the ward closed with a ‘click’ and silence returned to the room.

Alan and Lexie always felt extra quiet around them when they were alone together, she couldn’t talk and was cautious in her actions, as if she was always trying desperately to make herself invisible.

“Your injury is related to Edith?”

Lexie clutched the sheet and didn’t say anything, she had no intention of stirring up trouble.

“Both of you are daughters of the Mitchell family, and even if you are an illegitimate daughter, you don’t have to be so contrary.”

Looking at her unresponsive, Alan barked, “Did you hear me?”

Lexie shuddered in shock and looked at Alan in dismay.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

“You are weak and incompetent, it is a disgrace to me!”

Alan’s irritated look fell in Lexie’s eyes, and she suddenly felt that this man wasn’t as unfeeling as outsiders saw him, and perhaps he didn’t want to hurt her.

[If you want, I can leave the Howard family and you marry Edith.]

Alan’s face sank as he stared intently at Lexie.

[Originally, it wasn’t me you were going to marry, and you know that it was my father’s arrangement that I stay by your side, so rather than keep suspecting me of trying to harm you, why don’t you let me go?]

“What makes you think I’ll let you go?”

[I have no use for you, and no matter if you want to deal with the Mitchell family, Edith is more suitable than me.]

Lexie was calm, gesticulating.

She still had a glimmer of hope for Alan, that maybe because she was worthless, he would let her go so that she could leave J City with her Grandma.

“What kind of place do you think the Howard family is? You can come and go whenever you want?”

Alan’s hand pressed against the sheet, his tall shadow enveloping Lexie, and her shoulders jerked and she backed away reflexively.

“Let you go? So that you can alert Peter that I’m looking for the Mitchell family’s prescription?”

[I won’t!] Lexie shook her head hurriedly.

“I don’t believe you,” Alan stared at her coldly and said, “I’ve only believed in anything that I can control in my own hands, or … dead people.”

Lexie was stunned, and a chill ran out from her heart, freezing her limbs.

“Stay here, don’t make a fool of yourself, it’s not up to you to decide who is more valuable.” Alan straightened up and uttered.

The door to the ward ‘banged’ and the cold wind swept across her face, Lexie winced and when she came back to her sense, Alan was already gone.

She clenched her fists and looked in the direction of the door, her brow furrowing.

How did she forget that for Alan, she was a plaything, a pawn against the Mitchell family, so she could not leave on her own.

In the corridor outside the ward, Alan’s face was livid as soon as he came out.

Jack had been waiting, “Mr. Alan, just Miss Mitchell, oh … not … Miss Edith ran out in tears, she is … ”

Alan glanced at the ward door out of the corner of his eye, “Book a restaurant tomorrow night and ask her out for dinner.”

Jack froze for a moment, but didn’t dare to ask more questions, “Okay.”
