Chapter 122
The next day, when Willow arrived to work, she was immediately summoned into Mr. Fawcett's office. With a nervous smile, he carefully told her, "You know, Willow? We're both victims of Deborah's deception! Though the rumors were traced back to her, she told me that
you're the one who fed her the information. So that's why..."
So that's why Sean Fawcett had started acting strangely towards Willow, after meeting with Deborah, that time in his office.
Even on her way out of the company, Deborah Salt had to make one last attack...
It was clear that Sean was trying to make some sort of apology, here. Willow chose not to hold petty grudges.
After all, she still wanted to work here, and Mr. Fawcett was her supervisor.
Willow nodded, and replied, "You always see the bigger picture, sir. Thank goodness you're not the sort to take a nasty accusation at face value. Instead, you'll always dig up the truth behind the matter. You're the sort of leader who understands the proper way to handle justice."
Sean grinned widely. "Well, of course I wouldn't be so unfair to my own people!" he declared cheerfully. "However, it's Mr. Hughes who sets an example for us all, on the subjects of truth and justice, and seeing the bigger picture."
He was only the head janitor here. He wasn't such a fool as to steal credit from the CEO.
"This morning, Mr. Hughes sent everyone in the company an internal memo, explaining how you had nothing to do with spreading those rumors or leaking those designs. It was a terrible mix-up, but it's all been cleared up now. All along, you were the victim in this case." "Mr. Hughes actually went that far?" Willow could scarcely believe it.
Sean nodded. "His personal aide, Mr. Ward, was the one who sent the word around... but it was obviously on behalf of Mr. Hughes. Who else could have uncovered the truth so quickly, and resolved the matter so thoroughly? If you ask me, that Ms. Price really thought she could have her cake, and eat it too!"
Edith Price had already been fired, and turned over to the police. Sean figured he could get away with saying a little something about her.
Like most people, Sean was out to make a show of being nice to Willow now, while also slipping in a few nasty jabs towards Edith.
Willow had no interest in gossip. "I'll leave you to it then, Mr. Fawcett. Back to work for me."
So it was thanks to Jasper Hughes that she'd been absolved of guilt already... a paragon of truth and justice, indeed.
However, if he'd known all along that she wasn't the culprit, yet he had her arrested anyway... Had it really been just to teach her a lesson? Teach her to be more careful about this sort of thing?
It was a bit of a mystery.
After she'd finished cleaning the
washroom and meeting room on the
top floor, Willow got a phone call from Sean, directing her to Jasper's office eApparently, he was meeting with someone in there to talk
business, and she was to make
coffee for them.
That would normally be Edith's job, but she had just been removed from the company, and it wasn't as though Jasper had another personal aide standing by. Naturally, Willow was next in line.noveldrama
When Willow entered Jasper's office, there were four people inside.
Jasper himself was seated in a
couch at one end of the coffee table, wearing a tailor-made black suit. He looked serious and austere. His body language was powerful, commanding, and dangerous. His eyes flashed, like sunrise over the
horizon, like stars less
a
night. It was difficult to gaze upon him; impossible to look away. He carried himself with a regal bearing that was majestic beyond compare.
When he was there, everything else around him seemed dull in comparison, and everyone else was merely a side character.
Just a single glance his way caused Willow's heart to flutter terribly, so that she bowed her head on instinct.
To his right stood Tyson Ward, straight as an arrow, facing the other two people across the table, who were sitting upright, but wore ingratiating smiles which suggested that they were ready to bow as many times as needed.
Those two were both men, as well. One was skinny, an unfamiliar face; the other one was fat and chubby, and Willow could swear she'd seen him somewhere before... but at the moment, she just couldn't place him exactly.
What do you think?
