Chapter 11 Funeral Expenses
The busy tone rang out. Jessie couldn’t believe what she heard.
He wishes for Dad’s death? Why?
Is it because of me?
Even if it that’s the case, Chase shouldn’t hate Dad so much.

Jessie could sense the genuine hatred in Chase’s voice when he talked about Peter.
Thinking about the Summers family going broke and Peter’s accident, Jessie felt that it all seemed connected.
How could the Summers family, worth billions, suddenly go bankrupt, followed by Peter’s serious car accident?
It all felt too planned out.
And Chase seemed like the only one capable of doing all this in Anceburg City!
When Jessie and Chase were together, she didn’t think about this. But now, she couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease!
Why is Chase so against the Summers family and me?
Nevertheless, Jessie couldn’t dwell on it. She needed to gather the money for Peter’s medical bills… This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
The operating room door opened, and Jessie rushed over. “John, how’s my dad?”
“Don’t worry, Jessie. Mr. Summers will be okay. But he’s emotionally fragile right now, so don’t stress him out.”
“Got it,” Jessie said, relieved. “Thanks, John.”
John waved it off, then said, “By the way, Jessie, although Mr. Summers looks unconscious, he might still be aware. Did you say anything to him?”
“No!” Jessie knew what he meant. Peter wouldn’t have had a heart attack for no.

The only thing that would trigger him is probably the fact that I have cancer.
But I would never tell him about my illness!

John nodded. If it wasn’t her, then it must’ve been someone else. But who’s visited Peter recently?
“John, please keep an eye on my dad. I have urgent matters to get to,” Jessie said, then left quickly.
She couldn’t bring herself to talk to John about the medical bills, afraid of burdening John further after all his help.
When Jessie arrived at the courthouse, she didn’t see Chase.
“I’m at the courthouse. Where are you?”
“At the office.”
“Weren’t you here just now? Why did you go back?” Jessie was anxious.
Chase laughed. “Which do you think is more important: my family’s million- dollar empire or you?”
“Then can you come over in the afternoon? Please, Chase. My dad needs money urgently.”
“I’ll pay you, plus some extra for the funeral expenses when he’s dead!”
He hung up, ignoring further calls.
Sitting at the courthouse entrance, Jessie cried silently.
She never thought she’d be in this position for a few thousand dollars.
Once, she had a life envied by all, where she would spend 7,500 on a bag.
But a sum of money that used to be peanuts to her now meant her dad’s life.
The police noticed her tears and asked whether she needed help.
Jessie hurriedly stood up. Wiping her tears, she thanked them before leaving.
