CHAPTER 10

Chapter 10 I Wish for His Death More Than Anyone Else

The following morning, Jessie rose early, dressed neatly.

She had agreed to hand in the divorce papers at the court with Chase today. She didn’t want to look messy or let Linda feel too pleased.

As per state law, if both partners wanted a peaceful divorce, they had to present the papers together in court for it to be legally binding after a trial.

If one of them didn’t show up, the agreement wouldn’t count. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

After breakfast, Jessie hailed a taxi to the courthouse. She dialed Chase’s number, and after several rings, he finally picked up. “I’m already here. hurry up.”

“Why the rush? You know I have a lot going on!” Chase said lazily, yawning.

Jessie suspected he had just woken up, and if she hadn’t called, he might have. continued sleeping.

Suppressing her anger, Jessie clenched her teeth. “Fine, I’ll wait for you at the courthouse entrance!”

Jessie sat on the courthouse steps, hugging her knees while observing the crowd on

the street.

As time passed, more citizens arrived at the courthouse for different cases, but. Chase was nowhere to be found.

She waited until noon.

Growing impatient, Jessie called Chase again. This time, Chase picked up quickly. “Are you in such a hurry to get divorced?”

“Chase! Are you messing with me?!” Jessie fumed. “Do you think this is funny? You’re the one who wants the divorce. Do I have to beg you to come over?!”

Chase remained silent for a moment, his tone turning cold once more. “Fine, I’ll be there soon!”

Jessie took a deep breath, suppressing the discomfort in her stomach. John had advised her to keep her emotions stable as a stomach cancer patient, as getting too worked up could worsen her condition. But every time she dealt with Chase, it was hard to controlling her emotions.

Just as Jessie calmed down, her phone rang again. This time, it wasn’t Chase, but the hospital.

Heart racing, Jessie answered quickly, “This is Jessie.”

“Ms. Summers, Mr. Summers suffered a heart attack and has been taken to the emergency room.”

“I’ll be right there!”

Jessie rushed to the hospital immediately. The surgery was still ongoing, so Jessie waited outside the operating room, clasping her hands together. She had lost everything, and her only hope now was her dad’s recovery.

A nurse handed her a stack of bills. “Ms. Summers, this is the bill for your father’s emergency treatment and surgery.”

Jessie glanced at the details, shocked to see it was 7,500 dollars.

She had already spent most of her money and had less than 1,500 remaining, and she still owed John some.

How am I supposed to get so much money

Jessie had no choice but to call Chase. His voice was cold when he answered,

“My dad had a heart attack and is in the hospital, so I can’t leave.”

“Jessie, do you think this is a game?” Chase sneered coldly, “I didn’t expect you to be so vengeful. I know you want to punish me for being late, but why make up such an excuse?”

Chase thought she was retaliating against him. Jessie explained, “I’m not lying to you. My dad had a sudden heart attack just now, and he’s still in the ICU. Oh, and the surgery cost 7,500 dollars. I don’t have that much money. Can you transfer me

Chase chuckled coldly. “You want money from me to save your dad? That’s ridiculous!”

“What’s ridiculous about it?!” Jessie retorted.

Even though their relationship was broken now, he had always respected her dad before. How could he say such things now?!

“Heh.” Chase’s voice turned icy. “Jessie, there’s something I can tell you: I wish for his death more than anyone else!”
