Eve’s POV

“Mrs. Pitt” I mentioned her name when we were done with the meeting. She headed outside the office with Liam and his father escorting her.

“What’s the matter, do you know her?” Liam whispered to me.

“Yes, I do,” I told him..

“Mrs. Pitt” I called her name again but this time around, we were already outside and she was already walking towards her car.

I thought she would snub me again but she smiled andwalked toward me.

“How may I help you?” She asked me.

“Do you remember me?” I asked her.

“Hmmmn…” She hummed then paused; ” Of course I do” She said; pinching my cheeks lightly as if I am one little kid..; “And I can see that you are now in a better place” She added and I smiled.

“Can we have a one-on-one conversation please?” I asked her.

“Eve! What are you doing? Listen, regardless of the fact that you know Mrs. Pitts before.. does not permit you to..” Me Maya wanted to say but Janet’s mom cut him off.

“It’s fine Maya. Excuse us” She said moving away from them then I followed her to the distant corner.

“Eve” She finally mentioned my name.

“How is Janet ma’am?” I spoke to her formally.

“She’s fine and she’s in college you know…” She said.

“Ever since I moved here down here, I haven’t been able to contact Janet. We literally lost connections” I told her.

“Oh dead, people come and go, ten friends cannot be friends for ten years” She sneered. but I didn’t dispute that fact.

“I know… but can I get her contact number from you?” I asked her.

“No, you can’t” She refused bluntly

“Please” I pleaded.

“I said No” She fired which made her personal assistant come over to know what was wrong. She gave me a wicked look then returned to her car with him…

“I am sorry ma’am” I tried to apologize though.

.. Her personal assistant opened the door for her to let her go in… Then the driver started the car and drove out of the compound.

“I’ll be on my way now” Mr. Maya announced after they have left. “Can you come with me Eve?” He asked me.

“Huh? Me…?” I muttered.. “To where?”

Before Mr Maya could reply, Liam already interrupted him.

‘”Eve is my secretary and she is busy” Liam told his father.

“You are speaking like I do not own the company… and you are still under me.” His father voiced.

“And you are replying like it’s not gonna be mine forever immediately you die” Liam fired back.

“Enough! Enough!” I raised my voice.. “Jeez, the securities are watching us” I mumbled.

“Let’s go inside Eve” Liam said already leaving us alone.

“Bye Mr Maya, see you when I get home” I bow my head perfunctorily before Mr. Maya then I followed Liam behind. Sorry I prefer to listen to Liam not him.

“What’s the matter?” Liam asked me when I caught up with him and we entered the elevator together.

“Huh..”

“With Mrs. Pitts, you said you knew her” He said.

“Oh… She’s my best friend’s mom. I haven’t been able to contact her ever since I left home. So I asked Mrs. Pitts for her number but she wouldn’t give it to me” I told him.

“Oh that’s pretty bad” He remarked.

“Probably. Mrs Pitt and I have never been on good terms” I muttered.

“I see”

We got to our office; I obstructed him from going into his office yet

“Do you know if she would be coming here again?” I asked him.

“Of course, we work together. Aside that, she and my father are pretty close” He answered.

“Oh, guess I still have the chance to see her again” I muttered.

“Yeah” He looked at his wristwatch and said; “It’s.. lunch break”

“That’s right” I excused him…

“Eve! Yaay we can finally have our break” Maria, George and Daisy came over to my place.

“You joined the meeting right?” George asked me.

“Yeah, I did… I needed to be there to record all necessary suggestions” I told him.

“What about Mr. Maya? He was here too, Oh My God… The office was so calm throughout his presence” Daisy said and I chuckled.

“Because he is the main CEO… Liam’s father” I said.

“That’s right, you weren’t scared of him. In fact, he was pretty close with you” Maria said..

Meaning they were watching us, I hope they didn’t know the time I raised my voice at him.

Icleared my throat awkwardly and ask; “What do you mean by that Maria?”

“Eve already told us that she is a neighbor to Liam” George supported me.

“Hahaha” I gave weird laughter..” George is right” I added…

” Now let’s not talk about the Ceo, managing director whatsoever… let’s go have lunch… c’mon,” George changed the topic to set me free.

I picked up my purse and phone and followed them; I don’t know why George kept holding my hand as if I have no stamina to move alone.. Anyways, I love his support.

We had our lunch break together like we did last week Friday; talked and laughed.

I looked around for Liam but I don’t think he came to the restaurant because we sat at the entrance, so I literally saw everyone who came in and majority of them were from the same company. Liam probably went elsewhere to have his lunch.

Soon, the lunch was over… we returned to the office together but we still had to depart since our departments are not in the same place…

On getting to my office, I realize that Liam is still indoors, which means that he didn’t go out for lunch.

More works and works to do; I tried to resist the thoughts about Mrs. Pitts; I know for sure that she will go ahead and tell Janet that she saw me here.. and Janet might let her know that I got married to Mr. Maya, whom she happens to be very close with, or what if Mr. Maya himself opens that his stinky mouth and tell Mrs. Pitt himself that we are married because indeed, he has no shame.

Soon it was closing hours, I arranged my stuff as I got myself prepared to leave the office.

“Are you leaving with Mr. Liam again today?” George asked me. He was the only one who came to meet me…

“No. I would call my driver ” I told him…

“Oops!” He remarked…

Just then, Liam came out of his office, he was about to leave too.

“Okay bye Eve, see you tomorrow ” George trembled. He walked away quickly without looking back…

“Hey” Liam said to me.

“I’m about to leave also” I told him.

“I can see that” He nodded. “Is your new driver here yet?” He asked me.

“I would call him now, he promised to get here right away” I told Liam as I shoved out my phone but he snatched it from me.

“You are not calling anyone” He said…

“Why?” I stared at him.

“Because you are coming to my place” He said authoritatively.

“What? Why?” I grappled with him to get my phone from him but he wouldn’t let go.

“Come on” He switched from that bossy attitude to an informal one… “I didn’t have lunch because I want you to come cook for me” He said.

I folded my arms and looked at him then I said; “I didn’t notice that you weren’t at the office cafe” I lied.

“You didn’t notice? Oh well, but I am telling you now”

“Hmmm” I pouted my lips a little.

“So what do you say? Are you coming with me?” He asked me.

“To cook for you?” I asked again.

“Pretty please” He nodded like a baby.

“I guess you really meant it when you said I am better off a cook” I reminded him…

“Oh come on Eve, don’t use my wrong words against me. It’s all in the past now and I said I am sorry” He said and I chuckled…

“I have a confession” He said…

“What confession is that?”

“That you are a very cook Eve and I actually loved your meal that one time you served me breakfast” He said.

“Oh wow.. so you did..” I rolled my eyes, acting so stubborn.

“Gosh Eve! How else will I convince you to come with me?” He beseeched but I gave him a funny yet mocky look.

“Give back my phone Liam!” I said instead.

“No, Please… I want you to give me a positive response first”

“Positive response” I said.

“Seriously Eve?”

“I… I mean Eve. Like… Okay Eve, thank you Eve.” He corrected himself but I rolled my eyes again and snatched my phone back.
