Eve’s POV

“I would come back here to pick you up later in the afternoon, just call me whenever you are ready” Andrew said after dropping me off in front of the office.

“I would that” I told him then watched him;  reversed the car then he drove out of the gate. Shortly after he left; Liam drove in.

“Liam” I waved at him then waited for him to get down.

“I waited outside the gate to pick you up, so we can go to the office together” He said when he came out of his car.

“Oh I didn’t know… Your father already hired a driver” I told him.

“I can see that” He said.

“Let me help you with this” referring to his briefcase.

“It’s okay” He said then we walked inside the office together… we entered the elevator which took us directly to the exact working entrance.

“Good morning sir” Every worker greeted and I also waved at Daisy, George and Maria.

“We are having a meeting with the Withney Company by noon… You all should get ready, I don’t know who is representing them, might be the CEO or everyone who stands in a prestigious position over there neither am I aware of what they are coming here for because they only called me very early this morning but one thing I’ll tell you.. is that you all should expect the unexpected” He announced to them like the boss he was…This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.

They gave him a little bow till we were beyond their sight.

“I love your manner of speech. It sounds so bossy” I told Liam.

“Not rude at all?” He asked me.

“Not really. It’s just an authoritative kind of tone” I told him.. then he nodded and smiled.

“Are we really having a meeting with another company?” I asked him.

“Yeah… You must attend too, with your record book and phone to record voices” He said.

“Oh” I mouthed…

Then we got to our offices, where we had to depart…

“Have a lovely day” He wished me.

“You too” I told him, then he unlocked the door to his office and went inside.

I sighted some files already on my table…”Damn! Working is not as easy as I thought it was” I said; taking my seat; switching on my computer to type everything…

In the next minutes, I was done and went through it again to correct any errors.

Now it was perfect. I gathered the files together; including the ones given to me last week Friday then I went to Liam’s office to hand them over to him.

“Come on in” He said before I could knock. Oh! The glass.

I went inside, “The files; the names of who submitted it are written on top” I told him.

“Okay, drop it on the table” He said; I moved closer and then dropped it on the table as he said; then I turned to return to my office.

“Nice outfit Eve” He complimented… which made me blush secretly.. as I turned to him again.

“Thank you Liam. Helen helped me pick this dress and she styled it perfectly” I told him.. and he smiled…

“I know I am not fashion conscious but very soon, I will be one..” I said; stylishly trying to make him recall when he insulted my dressing.

“I love that spirit” He laughed but I rolled my eyes.

“Are you busy now?” He asked me.

“Not really.. Might return to my office to meet some work to do” I told him…

“You can watch from here remember…?” He said pointing at the glass, which reflected my table.

“Oh, that’s right” I said.

“Have a seat” He gestured to me but I didn’t move.

“Yeah I know that I was the one who gave that stupid rules, but I’m still the one asking you to divert a little bit from work… there isn’t even anything for you today” He said.

“Stupid rules?” I giggled and then finally sat in front of him.

“Don’t tell others I said that” He laughed also;

“Should I make you coffee?” He offered me.

“Nah, I’m fine” I told him.

“Are you turning down the only thing I can make in this world?” He said, making me smile.

“No, seriously Liam. I’m good” I told him.

“Okay. If you say so” He retorted.

I bit my lips, waiting for him to start a conversation since he was the one who told me to wait here.

“How is my father doing?” He asked me.

“Oh, now you care about him.” I remarked.

“Well, blood is thicker than water you know…”

“Then come back home, it’s been two days since you left” I told him.

“Are.. are you missing me?” He asked.

I kept silent for a while.

“Yeah, I do… we all miss you” I said.

“Obviously, you miss me the most” He insisted and I rolled my eyes.

“Fine!”

“You finally admitted”

“I meant your father is doing fine” I said… then remembered last night. I didn’t even get to see him before I left for work this morning, he was still sleeping… Anyways, he is his own boss… It’s not like he’ll get scolded for going to the office late.

“Everyone at home is fine” I added.

“Liam… and where is she? Eve?” That was Mr. Maya’s voice.

“What is he doing here?” We asked ourselves at the same time.

“I don’t know” We said that at the same time also.

The door suddenly flung and Mr. Maya walked in.

“Mr. Maya..” I muttered.

“What are doing here Dad? A meeting which I found out very late” The old man replied.

“I didn’t even know that it requires your presence; the meeting is starting by noon… That’s an hour to go” Liam said to his father.

“I know!” Mr. Maya responded and turned his glance at me. “Can I talk to you for a moment Eve?” He asked me and I nodded, stood up, and followed Mr. Maya out of the office.

“When did you leave home?” He asked me…

I was sort of scared that he might find out that I drugged him.

“This morning. You were still sleeping”

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me I still feel very weak. As soon as I woke up, I had my bath, I found the missed calls and texts regarding the urgent meeting that would hold here, so I had to rush down here immediately” He explained. then paused and said;” I don’t remember anything about last night”

“You don’t remember anything?” I asked him.

“Yeah… I… ouch” he touched his head and groan as if it hurt.

“It was fun” I said in a whisper.

“Really? Fun?… did we..?” I cut him off by hushing him.

“Yeah, we did and.. and…” I switched from a fake excited face to a fake frown “But it was very painful, you promise to go easy on me but you rode on me recklessly” I murmured; pretending to be sad.

“Really? I’m sorry Eve, I don’t even remember that we had s*x talk more, of how violent I must have treated you”

“We did” I blurted again. “Over and over again” I whispered and he was giving me that really look and I am so sure that he was racking his brain right now to remember what happened last night.

“Well.. later I enjoyed every ride and you even made me sleep in your room” I concluded my fake story with a smile and he smiled too.

“I promise to treat you better tonight” He said.

“Huh… what?” My eyes almost bulged out of the socket.

“They are here sir; They have arrived” George ran down to meet us.

“From Withney company?” Mr. Maya asked.

“Yes sir” He responded.

“Who is or are the representative (s)?”

“The CEO and her personal assistant” He told him.

“The CEO herself is here?” Mr. Maya exclaimed.

“Yeah, they are waiting for you in the meeting room”

” Go inside now and inform Liam” Mr. Maya ordered George but when he was about to turn the doorknob, Liam came out of his office.

“They are here right?” He said, adjusting his suit..

“Yes the CEO of Withney company and her personal assistant are here” George responded.

“Go ahead and tell them that we would join them very soon” Liam ordered then George bowed his head and exited.

Then I looked at Mr. Maya and noticed his tie was not properly knotted, so I helped him with it.

“I just told you, I drove down in hurry” He said…

“Thank you” He responded when I was done.

I noticed Liam was looking at me, so I cleared my throat awkwardly.

“The other staffs are not to join the meeting this time around” Mr. Maya told Liam.

“Eve would be joining us though,” He said;

“Why?” Mr. Maya complained.

“Secretary work. Get prepared Eve” Liam said to me.

“I am prepared” I rushed to pick up a book, pen, and my phone.

“You are gonna pretend as if we aren’t having any misunderstanding okay?” Mr. Maya warned Liam beforehand.

“You don’t want them to know how foolish you are?” He scoffed.

Mr. Maya was mute for a few seconds then he spilled out angrily: “I’ll pardon that but let’s pretend to be a loving father and a loving son only for today” After saying that, he walked ahead of us. Liam snarled.

“Just… forget about what he said… I don’t want you two to quarrel again, not even right here” I muttered to Liam and he smiled… I knew that was a fake smile.

I walked with Liam to the meeting room, which I already knew the way to.

Damn! I was about to meet another company’s CEO. I hope I don’t do anything wrong.

Mr. Maya went into the meeting room first, then Liam and I did.

“Good afternoon ma’am. We are sorry for keeping you waiting” Liam said.

“It’s fine” She responded.

Wait a minute! This woman! Is she not Janet’s mom? Yes, she is… My eyes are not deceiving me.

“Mrs. Pitts” Mr. Maya mentioned her name as he stretched his hand over to have a handshake with her.

I knew it! Mrs. Pitts! She is Janet’s mom… Although I know that she was very rich and that she had a very big company but I didn’t know I would ever meet her here.

We had our seats and I noticed that was staring at me too.

Looks like she recognized me; despite the way she treated me back then… She was never in support of Janet and my friendship, in fact, she never liked me because of the background I came from. I hope those impressions about me in her head have come to an end, and I hope that I might even get the chance to collect Janet’s number from her.

But wait! Come to think of it, she and Mr. Maya communicated more like they knew each other, Ofcourse; they work together but they spoke more like they were really close; not CEO-related. Yeah, not formally but informally.

I guess Liam was just there to learn from them because he didn’t say a word; he let them do the talking alone.. while I put on my phone record and jotted down a few things yet I wouldn’t stop glaring at Mrs. Pitt and noticed it… In fact, she was glaring at me too.
