Hard to get
Cayden
Things were no longer the same since we got back together and although neither Lily nor myself said anything about it, it was glaringly obvious even to a blind man. We were both happy to be back in the others life and had missed our companionship so much but the trust level was no longer the same, especially from Lily, she trusted me a little lesser than she did before the whole even. I didn’t blame her regardless, I understood that it was going to take some time and process for her to accomdate like she usually did and I willing to give both.
I came in the early afternoon to Lily’s shop and I had hoped, the shop was less busy as it was now office hours so the number of people in the shop was less. I settled down on my favorite chair quite comfortably and then signaled for Lily to come over and sit so we could conversate. She tidied whatever she had doing before I came, gave a few instructions at the back room like she knew we going to talk for at least a short while and then come over with a pristine smile on her face.
“Hello beautiful” I began with subtle flattery.
“Hey Cayden!” With a more reassuring tone than I had expected.
“You look stunning today Lily” I continued my taffy and absolutely savored the smile it painted on her face.
“I look this way every day Cayden, don’t be a simp now” she chortled softly and I could see every detail of her finely contoured face. It was an oval face with Rosy cheeks, lustrous skin and succulent lips that padded the air lightly whenever she spoke.
“If appreciating true beauty were a crime, then consider me guilty as charged” I compensated my sweet talk with an overpraise.
“Now that’s enough flattery for one day” she smiled “so would you like to have your usual?”
“Absolutely, I’d like that but although I need something else as well” I stared in subtle curiosity
“Okay tell me and I’ll check if we have it” I asked in ignorance
“I need you Lily, for a considerable part of my day. I really do understand that you absolutely have a busy day here in the bakery so you barely have the time for requests as mine but I’d would be super elated if you would go on a date with me” I takes a pause and at that point she already knew what her answer was going to be, I could see it from the way her face lightened up. At least I was more gentlemanly in asking her out than that (baby daddy) guy “I want to share a bottle of finely brewed wine and stare into your eyes as they glitter from the chandelier lights”From NôvelDrama.Org.
And just as she was about to give me a reply, my phone rang. It was Steve’s secretary and was surely going to be important if she was calling with his office line. I asked Lily if I could step out to take the call and she nodded in approval. The call lasted for about six minutes and by the time I got back into the shop, Lily’s face was slightly flushed in. I paid vague attention to it but little did I know I was its cause.
“Hey I’m back” I settle in anticipation of a favorable response to my request.
“Yeah… how is work, Cayden?” She tries to deflect the initial conversation.
“Work can be talked about later Lily. Now all I need to know us you response to my request and why your face has become sappy all of a sudden”
“Don’t bother, it’s nothing. But I don’t think I want to go on the date anymore…” she declines and I immediately become perplexed as to why she turned me down, she was all flower and butterfly like just some moments ago.
“Oh… well okay, I understand” I conceded without even inquiring why she said no.
“I need to go to the market now, we’ll talk later” I asked to drop her off at the market but she declined and asked that I eat my breakfast that I had requested which I yielded to and we said our goodbyes.
Later that day I headed to meet up with Jarod as I had started doing in order to buddy up with him and kill any bad blood we had towards each other. I needed to accommodate any and everyone who was important to Lily.
“My man!” Jarod blurted out as he opened his door to welcome me.
“How are you brother?” I reciprocated the hand shake and brotherly hug
“Oh you brought bear too, wise man. I was just about to go get those, come in, come in” I got into his apartment and settled into a single couch.
We drank and laughed about a lot of random topics and found out that we share more in common than we knew. I finally got to why I really came.
“Hey bro, I really need to talk to you about something, I need your help in fact” I sat up. If there was one person who knew Lily more than she knew herself, that person was Jarod and I knew that. I could have asked Granny but there was only so much she could do.
“Sure bro, what’s the matter?” He settle his bear on the hand of the couch he sat on.
“It’s Lily, I don’t know what’s wrong but I’ve been trying everything to get things back to the way they were but all my efforts have been futile. I feel she still doesn’t trust me and I can understand that but I am trying here Jarod” I let out a long held breath.
Jarod laughed out a little and then replied ” Do you honestly blame her for not trusting you, regardless of that dramatic apology you pulled off. Those periods were very traumatic for her so it’d be difficult for her to trust anyone not even myself”
“I still feel some atom of guilt for that, everything that happened… I feel I contributed to them” I collapsed my face to the side.
“Fortunately for you, those are mistakes that are forgivable and correctable. You see, the thing about Lily is the both the little and big things matter to her and you have to be intentional about both if you want to get to her. You also need to bare yourself out to her, come out with your feelings and true intentions. Having her make assumptions isn’t going to help you my man”
“Alright, about those little things, can I start by getting her something nice as an apology gift? Although I know very little about the things she likes and dislikes”
“That’s no biggie Cayden, that’s why you’ve got me. Don’t worry yourself too much, I’ll help you win her back but you’d need to promise me that you’d be committed as well”
“Absolutely bro, absolutely”
