Love At Last

Reconciled

Cayden

“Please can you just find reasons to call a truce for now? I just don’t want to lose you, Lily, we’ve come a long way now.”

“Please just leave Cayden, I’m tired of this already. Leave.”

Wow, I didn’t see that coming at all. The amount of hurtful words I’ve had to take from this woman this evening is enough to give one a heart attack. I wished I could do something to twist and turn back the time, something I could say to settle her mind, just anything to prove how much I love and care for her.

I left the shop with my head down. I had failed to get her to take me back, what’s the assurance that she would say still want anything to have to do with me if I stayed away from her for months and came back later? Is there nothing I could do to save my relationship? I saw the pain and hurt in her eyes, I did that to her. I was filled with so much guilt and I wanted it all to go away.

I drove to my spot to think and get a breath of fresh air

The smell of wet woods hit my nose, I welcomed the friendly scent by taking in a deep breath. It was a relief to smell the fresh air of the mountains rather than the city fumes that burned at my lungs day by day.

I needed a moment to relax and the best way for me to do that was to take a stroll through the woods and let my overactive imagination roam.

The sticks and leaves crunch beneath my hiking boots as I lead myself to my favourite trail. I smiled when the beginning came into view.

I was exhausted, today had been a long day.

The pitter-patter of feet practically caused me to jump out of my skin. I stopped, easing my thoughts by reminding myself that it could just be a black bear.

I’ve come across a few black bears, they usually move on after a short while.

Through the silence, I could hear a strange whining. I listened more intently, it sounded as if it was an injured animal. I sat up, ready to seek out the unknown noise with blind trust. The noise came from off the trail, ‘ve been warned by the signs around the area not to go off, but I felt I needed to do this.

I moved my feet carefully in the direction of the noise, it grew only slightly louder as my feet drew me closer, it was not a bear it had to be a smaller animal. I keep walking when I finally reached the animal by the sound of its wails.

When I finally got into eyesight to see the animal I was finally able to identify that it’s a fox. It curled itself up in a ball on the leafy ground, his leg bleeding as if it had gotten caught somewhere.

I carefully dropped my bag off my back being as quiet as possible and reached for my first aid kit. Guess it was a good thing I didn’t leave the bag in the car.

I slowly took short silent steps towards the fox not wanting to startle it. His blue eyes looked up at me. His eyes were almost as blue as mine.

“Hey buddy,” I said attempting to touch him. I was shocked as he allowed me to touch him, I carefully and slowly pet his head. I’d previously learnt to give first aid earlier. I tended to its wounds and it curled around me

“Easy buddy” I laughed and it went away, happily

“At least, something to cheer me up a little,” I said to myself

I got back to my car and drove home. My secretary called

“Good afternoon Sir, I’m just calling to remind you about the CEO’s visitation soon”

“Yea, thank you.” I was least enthusiastic about that. All that filled my head was Lily. I was heartbroken and couldn’t think of anything else.

I tried getting some rest but it didn’t work. I was restless. I dressed up and went to her house. The light in her room was switched on so I went to her window

“Hey Lily” No answer

“Lily, can you hear me?” Still no answer

“Come on Lily” This time, she switched off the light.

She didn’t want to talk to me. I went back home. Eating or sleeping couldn’t even be part of the agenda because none of those could happen. Instead, I counted down the time till morning so I could go back to the shop and try again. Staying away wasn’t an option.

I got to the shop looking so haggard.

“Hey Jarod, where’s Lily?” I asked on seeing himText content © NôvelDrama.Org.

“She’s not around”

“Come on man! A man just wants to talk to a woman because he’s in love! Do you want to stand in the way of love?” My voice was high pitched and people were staring at me because I made a scene. They started murmuring about what happened to myself and Lily.

Lily came out and dragged me outside.

“Can you stop embarrassing me at my workplace Cayden?”

“I’m sorry Lily but I’ll go to any length to have you back. Look at me, I’m a mess without you. I’m sorry about everything I put you through but I can never be sorry I met you because everything good in my life is all because of you Lily. I love you so much, please forgive me”

She was silent

“Lily, you’re everything good that I dream of and I know I can’t make all this go away but I know how badly I want to be with you”

Her eyes were teary”I want to be with you too Cayden and I love you”

I leaned towards her and kissed her passionately, raising her. Everyone at the shop started cheering at us. It was epic

“Oh my God,” She said, laughing

“I know baby, you’re amazing” She blushed
