Chapter 1010: A Substitute
Angela's face flushed even deeper.
Before the two could continue discussing the wedding plans, she hurriedly fled the
scene.
Brandon, about to follow her, gave Tina a discreet thumbs-up. "If this wedding goes smoothly, the credit will all be yours."
Tina smiled. If Brandon and Aunt Angela truly managed to pull off this wedding, she'd gladly accept the credit.
And she wasn't lying earlier-Aunt Angela usually dressed in dark tones, but her naturally pale complexion and jet-black hair made her look striking in red. It wasn't just elegance; it was commanding.
The Backyard
Master Tam had just returned from the front hall. As soon as he entered the courtyard, he saw Tina sitting at the stone table outside. It was obvious she was waiting for him.
He frowned slightly and couldn't help but scold, "You reckless girl. You know your health, and yet you're sitting out here in the night breeze. Aren't you worried Jared will worry himself sick?"
Tina poured a cup of tea and placed it across from her. She had no intention of drinking it herself. Instead, she gestured with her chin. "Uncle's making me a late-night snack. He'll be here soon."
Master Tam paused, realizing he was worrying unnecessarily.
After all, this disciple of his always did whatever she wanted. Even he, her master,
couldn't stop her-let alone her devoted fiancé, whose entire focus was on her.
Sitting down, Master Tam took a sip of the warm tea before asking, "What's wrong?" "Claudia's disappeared," Tina said calmly.
Her words stunned Master Tam. His brows furrowed deeply. "Disappeared? Didn't you capture her after gravely injuring her?"
"To be precise, she was swallowed by the array. She became the first sacrificial offering. We didn't even get a chance to intervene."
Tina was telling the truth.
Master Tam froze, unable to process it.
No matter how he thought about it, he couldn't have predicted such an outcome for Claudia. During their confrontation, he'd clearly sensed her immense internal energy. Her abilities were far beyond his expectations.
However, there was one thing that had puzzled him: he couldn't discern Claudia's true age.
Her face bore no signs of disguise, nor had her bones been altered. Yet, her appearance and bone structure didn't match at all.
At a glance, she looked no older than thirty.
This was something he'd never encountered before. If his suspicions were correct, Claudia's true age might be far beyond imagination.
Shaking off the thought, Master Tam asked, "What about the body? Did you find it? The array only devours the sacrificial victim's blood and energy-but the body shouldn't just vanish into thin air."
Tina frowned and shook her head.
Jayden hadn't returned her calls, which meant there were still no leads on Claudia. That was what worried her.
Claudia possessed the Swanson family's teleportation ability, and since she had set up the array herself, it wasn't impossible for her to escape at the last moment.
The only way to confirm whether Claudia was truly dead was to see her corpse with their own eyes.
Master Tam, noticing her concern, reassured her. "If the array really backfired on her, she'd be gravely injured-if not dead. Arrays driven by artifacts are often sinister. They can only be broken when the caster dies."
Tina pressed her lips together and looked up at her master. "When the array disappeared, the Jade Armour vanished with it."
Master Tam nearly choked. Swallowing hard, he stared at Tina in shock. "What?" "The Jade Armour is gone."

Tina nodded and explained how the armor had shattered. After that blinding white light, not only had Claudia and Jennie disappeared, but even the pieces of the Jade Armour were nowhere to be found.
That was why the array had dissipated so completely.
"This..."
Master Tam opened his mouth but ended up sighing deeply. "That was such a priceless treasure!"noveldrama
Tina: "..."
She had expected this reaction. Her master wasn't concerned about the situation itself or her safety. What truly upset him was the loss of the Jade Armour.
After a moment of thought, Master Tam asked, "Are you worried Claudia might use the Jade Armour to heal herself and come back stronger?"
Tina furrowed her brows slightly. "When the array backfired, both Claudia and Jennie were at the core. I suspect Claudia may have used someone else as a scapegoat to protect herself."
Master Tam stroked his beard. "Have you found that person?"
Tina shook her head. "Not yet."
Master Tam paused. "If what you're saying is true, and both Claudia and the other person were affected by the array's backlash, Claudia wouldn't have escaped
unscathed-even if she did use someone else as a shield."
"Besides, you're underestimating the Jade Armour."
Tina's eyes lifted sharply, and she looked at her master.
Master Tam continued, "From the records I've studied, nothing can repair the Jade Armour in a short time. And with Claudia severely injured, she'll have to hide and recover. She won't show herself for a while."
Hearing this, Tina instinctively glanced at the bandage on her master's head and suddenly changed the subject. "Didn't you say it was just internal injuries? Why is your head wrapped up too?"
Master Tam froze, unable to keep up with her abrupt shift in focus.

Tina glanced at the guest room her master was staying in. It faced a tree directly. She blurted out, "Master, don't tell me you got up in the middle of the night and walked into a tree?"
Master Tam's face turned red with embarrassment. "It's those damn kids' fault! They said they'd take care of me, but if they keep this up, they'll take care of me into the grave!"
Since he refused to elaborate, Tina didn't press further. Instead, she pulled a small bottle of medicine from her pocket and placed it on the table.
Master Tam's eyes lit up. Anything his prized disciple personally handed over had to be extraordinary. "What's this?"
"Healing pills. They'll help with your injuries," Tina said.
Master Tam's face broke into a wide grin as he quickly pocketed the bottle. He was well
aware of how valuable these pills were.
"This is why I prefer girls. They always care for their master! Unlike those ungrateful boys who don't have a shred of thoughtfulness."
"Once I'm fully recovered, I'll send them all packing. I'm better off without them around to annoy me!"
Seeing her master so happy, Tina spoke up at the right moment. "Although Claudia won't show herself for now, please help me investigate her background and origins."
Having received such a generous gift, Master Tam readily agreed. "Don't worry. I'd have looked into her anyway. Someone like her-her bones older than mine but her face young as ever-I have to figure out her secret to preserving her youth!"
As Master Tam muttered to himself, Tina's expression grew darker.
Her master wasn't wrong. She had also examined Claudia's face for clues but found no
trace of tampering.
If that face was truly Claudia's own, her age was indeed an enigma.
Just then, Jared arrived, carrying a tray with two bowls of hot porridge.
One of the bowls was placed in front of Master Tam, who accepted it with a smile. "Jared, you're the best. You even prepared a portion for me. How considerate!" Master Tam picked up his spoon, ready to eat, but froze when he saw the contents of the bowl. "What kind of porridge is this?"
Jared, handing a spoon to Tina, replied calmly, "It's calming porridge with medicinal herbs. It'll help you sleep better."
Master Tam's face twitched as he stared at the round, floating ingredients in the bowl. His dislike was unmistakable. "Never mind. I suddenly lost my appetite. You two eat. This old man is heading to bed."
