Chapter 1008: Unless Claudia’s Body is Found
The figure on the bed stirred slightly but didn't open her eyes. Tina noticed and deliberately dragged the chair with a sigh. "If you don't believe me, then I'll leave now." The next moment, Jennie's frail voice called out, "Tina, wait..."
She struggled to sit up, but her vision darkened, and she almost fainted. Tina quickly moved to steady her, placing a cushion behind her back and handing her a glass of water before sitting down again.
Jennie sipped the warm water, avoiding Tina's gaze, her voice heavy with guilt. "Tina, it's not what you think. I didn't mean I don't believe you."
"It's just... it's so unbelievable. Nancy... she poisoned you? And tried to kill Oliver? How could she do such a thing? Oliver is her child!"
Tina listened silently, letting Jennie vent. Only when Jennie's emotions calmed a bit did she speak slowly, "Jennie, you don't need to feel guilty or apologize to me. The person you saw wasn't the real Nancy."
Jennie froze, her face turning pale. "Tina, what do you mean? What do you mean she wasn't the real Nancy?"
Tina thought for a moment and used an example Jennie had experienced. "Do you remember when you and Hugo were impersonated on your way to my recognition banquet?"
Jennie's pupils contracted. "She... she was an imposter?"
Tina nodded.
Jennie's body trembled, and after a long moment, she exhaled the breath she had been holding. "Then... where is the real Nancy?"
Tina's expression darkened. "She's dead."
Jennie gasped and broke into sobs. "She... she's dead?"
Tina nodded again, pulling Jennie into a comforting embrace, letting her cry out her grief.
After a long while, Jennie's tears subsided. Tina reached into her pocket and pulled out a jade pendant, a symbol of Nancy's identity, and handed it to Jennie.
"This belongs to her. But... from now on, it's yours to keep."
Jennie's hand froze mid-air as she took the pendant. Holding back her tears, she found her voice after a long pause. "Tina, how... how did Nancy die?"
Tina recalled the moment Nancy clung tightly to Claudia's leg as they both vanished in a flash of white light. A strange mix of emotions surged in her heart. "Even in death, she didn't let that woman harm Oliver."
Perhaps it was her pregnancy hormones, but Tina could understand Nancy's determination to die taking Claudia with her.
Jennie, unable to hold back her tears any longer, covered her face and cried.
"She... she could be so difficult sometimes, but deep down, she wasn't a bad person. She brought Oliver to me because she wanted to settle her past. She truly wanted to change, but..."
Tina knew that Jennie would need time to process the loss of her relative. So, for the rest of their conversation, Tina simply listened.
Before leaving, Jennie expressed her desire to bring Oliver back to the Reed family. In the capital, aside from her, Oliver had no family. She couldn't bear to leave him alone, treated like an unwanted child.
Tina hesitated for a moment before sharing the truth about Oliver's condition. She left the next steps to Jennie.
"Jennie, Oliver's body still isn't ready to leave the hospital. Even after his physical recovery, he'll need long-term psychological counseling. He might never fully recover from this."
Jennie took a deep breath and nodded firmly. "No matter how long it takes, I'll wait. Nancy only had one child, and I can't let him lose his mother and then his family. A child can't stay in a hospital forever-it's too lonely."
When Tina left the bedroom, Hugo and Jared were waiting in the living room. Hugo immediately stood and walked over, glancing toward the bedroom. In a low voice, he asked, "Tina, how is Jennie? Does she need to go to the hospital?"
Tina shook her head. "Jennie needs someone with her these next few days. If work isn't too busy, you should stay home and keep her company."
Hugo didn't understand everything that had happened, but Jennie's health was his priority. "Alright. As long as she's okay, I'll stay with her as long as she needs." For him, family always came before work.
With Jennie resting, Tina and Jared didn't linger. After a few more words, they left.
On the way back, Jared received a call from his superiors, requesting a detailed report on Claudia. The call had come yesterday afternoon, but at the time, Tina had been busy caring for Uncle, so she asked to delay it. After all, Claudia was dead, and procedural matters weren't urgent.
But less than a day later, they were already pushing for answers.
Tina stared out the window at the scenery rushing past, a cold smile curling her lips.noveldrama

Tina's eyes narrowed slightly. "Uncle, if we were to say that Claudia was swallowed by a ritual and disappeared from this world, do you think they'd believe it?"
A glint of cold light flashed in Jared's eyes. "There are many things in this world that defy explanation. But for now, we can't conclude anything-unless Claudia's body is found."
Tina didn't reply, but she agreed with Jared's assessment.
Exactly. As long as Claudia's body wasn't found, this matter could never be considered resolved. A person who had schemed for decades wouldn't die so easily.
She hadn't forgotten-the ritual was Claudia's own creation.
On their way to the Brookes family estate, Tina received a call from Alina asking where she was. Tina answered truthfully.
Alina sighed with relief. "Your grandfather's family doesn't know about your pregnancy yet. Make sure not to let it slip. Wait until your condition stabilizes before saying anything."
Tina didn't think much of it and replied, "Got it." She figured she'd find time later to visit the Warren family separately.
On the other end of the line, Ruud overheard the conversation and looked at his wife in confusion. "The danger to our daughter has been dealt with. Why can't we announce the pregnancy?"
Alina sighed and touched his face gently. "Do you think if my father found out Tina was pregnant, he wouldn't send my four brothers over to shower her with gifts and start discussing the baby's future? How would we ever manage to go on our honeymoon?"
What do you think?
