Chapter 1409
This was how things usually went when you needed a favor for someone. You had no right to even speak about conditions.
Hans smiled. "It's settled, then. I'll invite the governor over for tea tomorrow afternoon and bring this up while I'm at it."
"Thank you so much." Connor let out a long breath.
The three of them knew that it was time to leave then.
After bowing to Hans, Connor said, "Please tell me what your bank account is, Earl Hans. I'll send you the twenty million dollars at once."
"The butler will tell you. Oh, and the payment will be in US dollars," Hans smiled. Jaden widened his eyes, and shock flickered across Connor's face as well.
That was around a hundred and fifty million Dashan dollars!
Yet Connor gritted his teeth and nodded. "It's a deal. I'll be waiting for the good news, Earl Hans."
The three of them followed the butler out of the castle after that, and Connor and the others left.
The butler returned to the castle, glancing at a still-smoking Hans. "The money should be in pretty soon, Master Hans."
"Help me ask the governor over for lunch."
"Of course." The butler hurried off to make the call at once, and Hans picked up the bangle to play with it once more.
Time ticked by slowly, and it was not long before Hans' phone let out a ding. He glanced at the bank transfer notification, a broad smile appearing on his face.
Soon after, the governor arrived.
Governor Wynna was an old man in his sixties, dressed in neat, plain clothes and a bowler hat that made him look like a scholar.
Hans invited him in warmly and got straight to the point. "Those two Dashans came looking for me again and even gave me a really nice present. I couldn't turn them down."
"Is that so? Well, did you like the gift?" Wynna smiled.
Hans nodded. "I do, a lot."
"Take it, then," Wynna smiled.noveldrama
"What about the gold mine?"
"I've promised the mine to Louie. He's from an upper-class clan of the Sunset Dynasty too, I'm sure you know that."
"Ah. I mean, I feel a little bad since I took their present," Hans sighed.
Wynna smiled. "Don't worry about that. We've done a full investigation on them bribing the senators, so they'll be arrested in no time. When that happens, they'll need to pay even more money to bail themselves out and get back to Dasha safely. That money will be transferred to your account as well."
"Oh." Hans smiled, taking a drag of his pipe. "You're too kind."
Wynna smiled. "All I ask is for you to stay out of this from now on and let the mining happen successfully."
Hans blew out a cloud of smoke, looking at Wynna silently.
A long pause later, Wynna finally said, "I'll give you another ten percent stake, and
no more. You know how many people there are below us. We'd get into trouble if we went too far."
"It's settled, then." Hans chuckled, getting to his feet and extending a hand to Wynna.
Wynna stood up, shaking hands with Hans as the two exchanged a smile.
Just then, Wilbur had gotten himself a hotdog from a street stand before heading back to his hotel.
He sat down on the couch, watching television.
At the same time, a bone-thin, middle-aged man who practically looked half-dead made his way over to Wilbur's room door without a sound.
Wilbur frowned, feeling a strange jolt of pain in his chest. Countless thoughts and memories flooded his head, nearly suffocating him.
What do you think?
