Chapter 67
Matthew said, his voice low and urgent, "Listen, my uncle isn't the gentleman you think he is. You don't know what he used to—"
Before he could finish, Natasha cut him off sharply.
"I don't care what kind of person Zachary used to be. All I know is you have no right to interfere in my life anymore. So do me a favor and get lost," she said, gritting her teeth.
Whatever patience she had left was gone.
Matthew let out a cold laugh. "Natasha, if you're really that desperate to latch onto
the Foster family, you'd better pick someone else."
"And you're shameless for even saying something like that," she shot back.
When he showed no sign of leaving, she picked up her books and moved to another table.
Thankfully, Matthew didn't follow her.
A few minutes later, Xavier finally found her after circling the library.
"Why'd you move? I was looking all over for you."
He dropped his backpack onto the table, the dark circles under his eyes immediately catching Natasha's attention.
"You pulled another all-nighter gaming, didn't you?" she asked, exasperated.
Xavier was a hardcore gamer. Aside from the time he spent on experiments, eating, sleeping, and using the bathroom, he was almost always glued to his phone.
But there was a hint of sadness in his eyes now.
After hearing about Natasha's decision to reenter the medical field, he stayed up
all night contacting people and trying to help her, but he hadn't made any progress.
Three years was a long gap, and it wasn't easy to bridge.
Natasha knew her weaknesses, and she knew she'd face a lot of rejection. But she was doing everything she could to catch up.
"Forget it. You're still young. You won't be able to pull all-nighters when you're older," she said.
After all, Natasha had been through that age. As she got older, she found that even if she wanted to stay up late, it just wasn't possible anymore.
Right now, the best Xavier could do was stay by her side and help her when it counted.
As for her dubbing project, Natasha had already asked Amelia to reduce her workload. She had some savings now and wasn't in a rush for money at the moment.
"Oh, right. There's a three-day academic symposium coming up. It's on an island where they've set up a clinical research institute. Do you want to come with me?" she said, only just remembering. noveldrama
Molly had sent her an invitation yesterday. Each invitee could bring one guest. And aside from Xavier, she didn't know anyone else who
would even be interested.
"Really? Can I?" Xavier's eyes lit up. He knew about the event but would never
have qualified for an invite on his own.
"If you want to come, of course you can," Natasha said with a smile.
When she made a promise, she meant it.
"In that case, I'll gladly accept!" He was so excited that his voice got a little too
loud, drawing more annoyed glares from people around them.
Natasha shot him a playful warning look.
...
Meanwhile, Julian was reporting his findings about Xavier to Zachary.
"Mr. Foster,, we've finished looking
into him. Xavier is the son of
Dominic from the Jones family in Soutia. There were rumors he was
studying abroad, but no one knows
why he's suddenly returned."
It was strange, but that wasn't the important part. What mattered most was his connection to Natasha.
Julian added, "And I learned that Ms. Bradley spent the entire day with Xavier today."
The moment he said that, Zachary's face darkened instantly.
What do you think?
