Chapter 45 Cut the Cake
Blanche walked into a lounge, while Cathy couldn't swallow the insult she had just received. She waved to two girls nearby and the two girls immediately followed Blanche.
The two girls were the ones who had just provided false testimony for Cathy.
Cathy was determined to teach Blanche a lesson today.
"I didn't expect you to be so cunning. I underestimated you. You could even bewitch Grandma with some cookies. You're quite capable though you're so ugly." Cathy stood in front of Blanche with her arms crossed.
Blanche looked up. She had just sat down, but Cathy and her friends had already surrounded her. It was like being stuck to a piece of chewing gum that couldn't be shaken off.
A cunning person described others as cunning. How interesting.
"Grandpa? What gives you the right to call her Grandpa? Are you from the Herbart family?"
What? Blanche actually said Cathy didn't have the right to call Old Mrs. Cathy Grandma! But her words really touched Cathy on the raw.
Old Mrs. Herbart was a sly fox who seemed to have seen through Cathy's thoughts a long time ago. She always treated Cathy indifferently.
"I think this woman is too arrogant and needs to be taught a lesson. She really thinks she's Mrs. Herbart. I can tell that Louis despises her very much."
"Yes, let's teach her how to behave."
As they spoke, the two girls surrounded Blanche. Blanche frowned. Were these girls really so fierce?
Were they going to beat her up together?
"What? Do you want to fight? Alright, just go ahead."
Blanche raised an eyebrow, picked up a fruit knife next to her, and weighed it before twirling it quickly with her fingers a few times.
In an instant, the sound of the knife cutting through the air could be heard.
The two girls who had just been eager to fight were now stunned and looked at each other. Blanche seemed to have real skills.
"Miss Bird, well..."
The two girls were timid. Blanche twirled the shiny knife as if she wanted to cut through their flesh.
Blanche got up and walked forward.
"Do you want to try it? This knife has no eyes. You have delicate skin and tender flesh. If I accidentally cut you, you will be disfigured, won't you?"
The two girls were scared and backed away. Which girl didn't cherish her face? Cathy glanced at the two useless girls, but she didn't dare to approach Blanche because of the knife, either.
"Blanche, wait and see."
Cathy was unwilling to give up. She brought the two girls and walked towards the door of the lounge gloomily.
Blanche put down the knife and smiled. It seemed that learning pen spinning was useful.
After leaving the lounge, Cathy and her friends didn't leave immediately. They patted their chests and discussed.
"That knife looks too scary. Let's spare her this time."
"Yes, I agree. When she doesn't have a knife next time, we'll get even with her."
Cathy snorted inwardly. How useless they were! They only made excuses for themselves. She couldn't wait until next time.
Cathy saw two red wooden doors behind her and glanced at Blanche who was facing away from them. It was perfect.
Cathy whispered, "We don't have to wait until next time. Close the door. This lounge is very remote, and almost no one comes here. Then cut off the power supply. Let's see how she'll get out."
"Good idea. We'll close the door right away."
The two girls closed the door gently, locked it, and then unplugged the wire from the wall.
The lights in the lounge went out with a "swish." Blanche got up and couldn't see anything. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
She fumbled for her phone, but unfortunately, it was out of battery. Today, while waiting for Louis outside the banquet hall, she was bored and had been playing with her phone, causing it to run out of battery.
She reached out in the direction of the door from memory. She stumbled a few times, but finally found the door. She breathed a sigh of relief and touched the door handle, but why was the door closed?
She pulled the door, but it didn't budge.
Blanche felt uneasy. The lounge door couldn't be locked, and she thought of the scene when Cathy left reluctantly. Blanche realized that it was probably Cathy who closed the door.
An hour later, the highlight of the birthday party began in the hall.
People slowly sang the birthday song as a huge multi-layered cake was pushed out.
Louis walked towards Sam.
"Where is she?"
Sam was stunned for a moment before realizing that Louis was referring to Mrs. Herbart.
"I'll go find her."
The three women returned to the hall, exchanged glances, and had sly smiles on their faces.
Cathy approached Louis.
"Louis, are you tired? You've been socializing all night." Cathy came over and said considerately.
Louis looked around the banquet hall but didn't look at Cathy.
"It's fine."
Cathy stomped her foot. She hated being ignored so much.
As people sang the pleasant birthday song, the huge cake was pushed to the center of the banquet hall.
Louis frowned. Sam still hadn't found Blanche. Where did she go?
She appeared when she shouldn't have and didn't appear when she should have.
The cake was ready, and Old Mrs. Herbart came out with the help of the butler, smiling.
"Why haven't I seen my granddaughter-in-law? Let her come up and cut the cake."
A minute later, Blanche still hadn't appeared.
Everyone was puzzled and searched for Blanche in the crowd.
"Huh, is she not here?"
"No, I didn't see her."
Flora immediately stepped forward.
"I bet she ran away because she couldn't eat or drink anything here and she was hungry. She's such an uncultured girl. Old Mrs. Herbart asked her to cut the cake, but she didn't care."
Flora grabbed Vivian's hand.
"Vivi is much better. She's elegant and well-mannered."
Undoubtedly, she said those words to embarrass Tammy. Tammy's face twitched, but she had to swallow her frustration.
Sam came to Louis's side and whispered, "We didn't find Mrs. Herbart."
Louis frowned. After he saw Henry's meaningful expression, his heart tightened. Did Blanche encounter danger?
"Send more people to look for her. Hurry up."
"Grandma, I'm here."
Just as Louis finished speaking, Blanche's voice came through the crowd. Everyone turned around and saw her. They automatically made way for her.
Blanche walked in front of the big cake, held Old Mrs. Herbart's hand, and took the knife.
"Grandma, I'll count to three, and let's cut the cake together."
"Okay."
"Three, two, one."
Blanche held Old Mrs. Herbart's hand and cut the first piece of cake. Old Mrs. Herbart let her cut the rest. It was evident that Old Mrs. Herbart loved her very much.
Cathy widened her eyes. She had clearly locked the door, so how did Blanche get out?
Blanche first handed the first piece of cake to Old Mrs. Herbart and then distributed the other pieces. In the end, she took a piece of cake and came to Louis.
"Honey, have some cake."
Louis didn't take the cake but stared at Blanche. Where had she been during this time?
Sam searched everywhere but didn't find her. At a critical moment, she appeared.
"Where did you go?"
Louis had excellent eyesight. Although Blanche had performed well while cutting the cake, her skirt was dusty.
When she handed him the cake, he noticed a wound between her thumb and index finger.
