Branch One Hundred and Twelve
Jessica had left the house with Genevieve. She has spoken to James’ wife Lily who sounded like an absolute sweetheart. After Jessica had prepared breakfast after what felt like an excruciating long workout session, she had a one-on-one session with her aunt.
Her aunt claimed she was not maximizing the potential of being married to a billionaire. Jessica advised her aunt to leave because she was not planning on extorting the Delgados so she would live a life she did not deserve.
Olivia had made a big scene out of it and called Jessica ungrateful. She claimed to have taken care of her and she did not like how Jessica refused to repay. Jessica threatened to kick her out if she found her still in the house if she came back.
“I can only imagine if this was how much pressure I made Dawson and Xavier feel when I did things like this” Genevieve commented silently as they drove.
Jessica wanted to apologize but Genevieve kept rambling on. “I mean when I was a nuisance and making my family pay my debts as I gambled away with my addiction to gambling and alcohol. I never knew that the addiction would lead me to an early grave”
Genevieve’s eyes widened as she covered her mouth. She has allowed herself to slip and now she knew she would have to explain the meaning of what she meant.
“An early grave? What do you mean?” Jessica asked shocked at what she had just heard.
“I did not want to tell anyone but I came to appreciate and feel sorry for my family when I discovered that I have a fatty liver and do not have much time to be on earth again”
“Why am I just hearing of this now?” Jessica asked getting teary-eyed.
“I have burdened my family enough and I did not want to do so further. Please can you keep this a secret from Dawson and Xavier?” she begged.
“You need immediate treatment. You must have been in a lot of pain. How did you manage?”
“There is no more treatment. I just have to live a righteous life now. I have been following up on my meds too”
“Let’s tell Xavier so he can get you treated here. I am sure something can still be done to the situation”
“I’m calling him now,” Jessica said putting the phone to her ears.” All would be fine” she added squeezing her hand.
Xavier was in the middle of a serious conversation about the termination of Scarlet’s contract when Jessica’s call came in.
“Hello, Jessica I am in the middle of a business meeting. I will call you back later” Xavier said cutting off the call.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
The men in the room stared at him as if he were an alien that descended into their midst. “Let’s get back to work,” Xavier said in an ordering voice.
“Boss, did you just stop the meeting to take a call?” Brian asked.
The rest of the men wanted to know what just happened but it was only Brian who was brave enough to go head-on with the CEO.
“Yes I did my wife called” the men exclaimed when they heard his response. He was not the kind of person to disrupt the meeting to take a call and he did not expect less from any of them.
They had all heard of the woman who married their boss. Most of them thought of the woman as a superstar because how could she handle him at home? Most of them had a hard time coping with him for the little time they spent together at work.
Marcus sat there listening to the whispers of how much of a happy marriage Xavier must be having. He found himself sulking soon enough. He knew of the contract between them and the only reason he was not exposing it was because he could not breach the contract between them as a legal practitioner.
He wished there was trouble in paradise but from the interaction, it showed that both of them seemed to get along. He needed to do something fast because it felt as if she was slipping through his hands.
“He must be busy with work. I would discuss treatment options with him later tonight” she said promising her.
They arrived at the restaurant building and Jessica shared her plan with Lily who had a great reception to the dream. They agreed to get started on the work the very next day.
Jessica treated Lily and Genevieve to a meal before she went back home. As they neared the house she feared facing her aunt.
A part of her wished that Olivia would have left but she knew her aunt so well. It was obvious that she would never shy away from anything that seemed like it would bring money to her.
“Where have you been all morning” Olivia asked as she held onto Jessica’s hand.
“Where I have been is none of your business,” she said wiggling her way out of her strong grip.
“Why are you so rude,” she said pushing her away.
“You have no right to treat a Delgado like that” Dawson’s strong voice was heard from a distance.
“A Delgado? Who? Jessica?” Olivia asked with shock.
“Jessica is now a Delgado and you can not treat her however you deem fit”
“I can treat my niece how ever I deem fit” Olivia screamed.
“I am the only family that she has”
