Chapter 121 Dispute over Masks
Chapter 121 Dispute over Masks
Qingling said seriously, “Prince Huai is infected with highly contagious illness. Whoever enters shall
have a mask on the face. I will tell Prince Huai about it in case he feels bothered.”
“Shut up!” Ms. Lu was overwhelmed with madness. She was so pissed that she had no idea what to
say. Actually, she left the palace only to keep an eye on Qingling. However, she never expected to run
into such a trouble before Qingling could start to cure Prince Huai’s illness.
Princess Ji only smiled to reply, “It’s okay. I will keep it in mind next time. But…I haven’t worn any mask
during these days while coming back and forth, I suppose…Wenhuai could be sentimental when
affected by the illness. We should try to avoid causing any concerns from him.”
Then she stuffed the mask onto Qingling’s palm and turned around to enter.
Obviously, she was trying to show no bias against the sickness of Prince Huai.
Qingling warned sternly, “Stop right there!”
Prince Wenjun sneered, “Watch your manner!”
Qingling looked around and said, “His Majesty sent me here to cure Prince Huai. So I am in charge of
everything related to his illness. Phthisis is highly contagious even in the air when he speaks. The
mask is only a basic tackle to prevent. Only those with masks could enter!”
She turned around to look at Gu Si, giving her strong order, “Sir, please guard here at the door. It’s a
must to wear mask for whoever trying to enter. Those without masks shall never pass even including
Ms. Lu.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Gu Si confirmed. By the order of His Majesty, Qingling had the only right to do the final
say.
But he was still surprised by Qingging’s courage today. When he looked at Prince Wenhao, he found
nothing but his composed face. It seemed that he had been used to it and didn’t intend to explain
something for her.
Ms. Lu was irritated, “How dare you stop me! Gu Si, step away!”
Ms. Lu was about to rush in with Princess Ji. But Qingling took out the royal scepter and unfolded the
written edict within. Then she stood in their front, “Put on masks if you wanna enter.”
“You…” Ms. Lu took a look and soon noticed the sculpture of royalty carved on the scepter.
Stunned, she exclaimed to ask, “Is that what His Majesty offered you?”
“It’s from the Retired Emperor.”
Prince Wenjun almost dropped his jaw.
Ms. Lu cast a stunned look at Prince Wenhao, “Wenhao!”
But he simply shrugged, “Ms. Lu, sorry, I could do nothing about it as she has the scepter. Both His
Majesty and the Retried Emperor had made the promise—she is the only one to have final say to
whatever related to the illness. And I am only here to escort her.”
Ms. Lu was rendered awkward with twitch of her face out of anger.
Prince Wenjing hurried to intervene, “Ms. Lu, it’s just a mask. Price Huai will show his understanding
after we tell him about it. Please let Princess Chu enter first in case the best moment of treatment slips.
I am sure His Majesty has his own reason to trust her.”
Qingling threw a mask to Gu Si, “Stay and guard. I will get in first. No one shall pass unless they wear
mask.”
She turned to look at Prince Wenhao, who soon noticed what she meant and hurried to wear the mask.
Then they walked over to the bed where Prince Huai lay.
“Wenhuai, how do you feel today?” Prince Wenhao bent over to ask and reached out his hand to
tighten the quilt.
Prince Huai was skinny with his eyes sunken and bloodshot. It seemed that he just finished tough
coughs lasting for a while. Tortured by the illness, he looked haggard.
But he still smiled, “Wenhao, I almost can’t recognize you.”
Prince Wenhao was about to take off his mask. But Qingling stopped him. She walked over and smiled,
“Prince Huai, nice to meet you. My name is Qingling, also the wife of Prince Wenhao. So please call
me Princess Chu. I am here to cure you by the order of His Majesty.”
Prince Huai slowly turned to look at Qingling. His smile seemed to fade a bit, “It’s my honor to meet
you.”
Qingling smiled to reply, “I am sure we will be seeing each other more often. At least, in the following
six months, you will see me every day.”
Prince Huai smiled, “Six months? Alright. Great.”
As far as he knew about his own illness, he actually deemed himself that he might even fail to make it
for half a month.
Just now, he heard the conversation outside among the royal doctor and those royal ladies, who
claimed that he would be dead in two days as he coughed up so much blood.
Qingling started to browse the note taken by the royal doctor.
It transpired that his illness had gone worse than expected. He had coughed up blood for a month. His
illness eased a bit for two to three days after he took medicine regularly. However, then it started to go
worse again. His cough actually lasted for a whole night.
After doing the basic check and diagnosis, Qingling took out her med kit to inject a dose of
streptomycin for him.
When both Ms. Lu and Princess Ji entered again with masks on their faces, they saw the injection.
Ms. Lu hurried over, “What are you doing? What did you put into his body?”
Prince Wenhao stopped her, “Ms. Lu, don’t worry.”
Ms. Lu stared at him, shocked and worried, “What kind of treatment is it? Did His Majesty know about
that?”
“Yes.” Replied Prince Wenhao.
Qingling took out some pills and asked a servant to bring a glass of water. Then she said to Prince
Huai, “Take those pills.”
Prince Huai did as told. For the past three years of illness, he had been doing as the doctors required.
He even showed no hesitation to take whatever medicine provided by some quacks his mom hired or
some claim-to-be magic water brought by some weird witches.
So as the same as before, he put those pills into his mouth without asking what they were, frowning.
Qingling paused and explained, “They’re not for chewing. You need to swallow them with water.”
“Chewing enables better effect.” Prince Wenhao added in case Prince Huai felt awkward.
Qingling still asked the servant to bring some water. Prince Huai took a big gulp. But the bitterness still
lingered in his mouth and it even crawled down to his throat.
“Just sleep if you want after taking the medicine. I make a greater dose. So for the following days, you
may find yourself quite sleepy, tired and inappetent. But that’s common side effect. Don’t worry about
it.” Qingling said with soft voice.
Prince Huai then smiled to her. Then he looked at Ms. Lu, “Mother, please give her a warm welcome.”
Ms. Lu could tell what he meant. So she nodded but still worried, “I know. Just sleep if you feel tired.”
Though Ms. Lu had been shrewish. But she actually had a warm heart.
When she was in the royal palace back then, she had been living cautious life.
There used to be so many imperial concubines with strong family backgrounds. However, her father
was just a common-ranking official.
So her shrewish act was actually a kind of camouflage to protect herself from harm.
After all, no one would like to offend a shrew.
This time, the emperor had made his order—Qingling was sent here to cure Prince Huai. Though she
had shown her strong rejection, she could do nothing beyond that.
While Prince Huai feared that her attitude would offend others. So he suggested that she should lay C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
low and learn to make compromise as he himself was lack of the power to shield her.
What a sensible son!
Princess Ji stared at the med kit, wondering and then asking, “The medicine in that box looks weird.
You don’t even need to boil it?”
Qingling replied, “They’re all condensed. He can just swallow it because the condensed ones are much
better effective.”
Then she took a look at Prince Wenhao, casting a look of blame for him saying ‘Chewing is better.’
Princess Ji smiled and then walked over to say to Prince Huai, “Wenhuai, please don’t mind the mask.
She asks us to wear it in case we get infected.”
Prince Huai let out a smile, looking seemingly tired, “I know it.”
Qingling said, “I am sure Prince Huai understands my decision. He knows how struggling it is to be
haunted by this illness. Of course he won’t like to see whoever around him gets infected and suffered
just like him.”
Then she took out her stethoscope again and said to Prince Wenhao, “Help me to turn his body to the
side. I need to check his back.”
