Both Pearl and Richard assumed that Jasmine had gone mad.

"What nonsense is that? How could the child be his?" Pearl looked worried. "Are you mentally ill?"

Jasmine couldn't help but laugh loudly. "You kept asking, didn't you? Isn't this what you wanted to find out?"

Pearl was rendered speechless. She did want answers, but Jasmine's wild claim seemed too much.

"You said the child is Richard's. Do you have any proof?"

Jasmine's mood dropped, and she looked down sadly. "Do we really need proof? I'm telling you the truth. What more do you want?"

Richard started to think Jasmine might actually be serious. He couldn't help but wonder if she was telling the truth.

Pearl couldn't believe what she was hearing. It sounded completely off to her. She was sure Richard would never get in touch with Jasmine behind her back.

But Jasmine sounded so sure of herself and didn't look like she was lying.

"How did you get this child?"

Jasmine wanted to say something, but someone loudly knocked on the door. She narrowed her eyes and refused to say anything else.

"Who is it?" Pearl stood up, ready for anything.

"My son is back." Jasmine slowly got up and walked to open the door, looking unsteady.

Chester wasn't alone; Lorrie, whom they'd just met, was there too.

"What are you doing here?" Jasmine knew Lorrie but was wary and unfriendly toward her.

"I had some free time after work, so I picked Chet up and drove him home."

Chester was happy, showing off the dessert he had. "Mom, I ran into Miss Lorrie on my way back. She bought me dessert."

Chester was overjoyed, crumbs around his mouth.

However, Jasmine looked furious. She grabbed the dessert and threw it to the floor. "How many times have I told you not to take things from strangers!"

Chester almost cried with fear and turned pale, his smile gone,

Lorrie seemed unfazed by Jasmine's reaction, as if she was used to it or didn't mind.

"I've told you I won't do those things for you. Please stop pestering me and my child." Jasmine pulled Chester close, standing protectively in front of him.

Lorrie covered her lips and smiled. "What are you talking about? I'm not bothering you and your child."
