Back at the present, Esther glanced at his profile, suddenly embarrassed. "I'm sorry about that. It was truly an accident that I hit you in the face."

Finnegan smiled, not a trace of anger in his voice. "I know. I didn't blame you, did I?"

Esther muttered to herself silently. He said he didn't blame her but practically rolled his eyes to the heavens back then.

The atmosphere lightened after their conversation, and they sat at the reserved table. Finnegan glanced at the menu and ordered without asking Esther. To her surprise, almost all the food Finnegan ordered were her favorites.

Feeling touched, Esther said, "I never thought you'd remember my favorites."

Finnegan gave her a cool glance. "Not really. Is there anything you don't like to eat?"

When the food arrived, Esther, feeling internally peeved, focused on eating.

Noticing her mood, Finnegan smiled and ate his food without disturbing her. Once they were full, Finnegan looked at Esther and asked, "How are things between you and him?"

Esther, who had just been immersed in sadness, was suddenly snapped out of it by his question. "What do you mean?"

"I mean how's the romance between you two going?" Finnegan tried to keep his tone neutral.

"Oh, you mean James? We're doing great. Our relationship is going well. We got engaged recently, and we might be getting married soon." Esther's face clearly showed her melancholy while she stirred her coffee. Finnegan casually inquired, "Since you're getting married soon, why the long face?"

"I wasn't planning to get married so soon, but James and his family are quite eager for it. So, after discussing it, we've decided to tie the knot next year."

Esther was at the peak of her career and wasn't eager to end her work and dedicate herself to family life. But James really liked her and hoped to be with her sooner rather than later.

Finnegan furrowed his brows slightly, showing some disagreement. "But you're in the midst of a

successful career. Are you really okay with getting married so early?"

"Disappoint him? This is your career. If you give it up to be with him, you won't be the woman he fell for anymore." Finnegan's smile, which he had maintained for so long, gradually turned into a frown.

"Yeah, James was so supportive of my career. How could he expect me to give up my dreams for this?" Esther's eyes lit up for a moment but then quickly dimmed again. "Although this is the case... never mind, I'll talk to him about it when I get back."

Finnegan watched her with eager eyes, like a puppy wanting to be close. He felt like he had to pat her on the head, and so he did.

But right when he did that, they heard a frosty voice ask, "What are you guys doing?"
