Chapter 1010
Sherilyn couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, noticing Gilbert was actually smiling amidst the situation. "Aren't you even a bit worried?"
She was genuinely concerned about him!novelbin
"Worried? Not really."
Gilbert shook his head, his smile broadening. "It's just the pinky, and on my left hand at that... Even if it never fully heals, it won't really affect much."
"What kind of attitude is that?" Sherilyn couldn't help but frown.
"Don't be mad."
Seeing her reaction, Gilbert quickly tried to dial back his humor. "Didn't the doctor say it'll heal?"
"Yeah." Sherilyn sighed softly, advising him, "You need to follow through with the rehab exercises."
"Got it."
With a smile and a nod, Gilbert scooped up Jenna, and they headed out together.
Crossing the clinic's lobby, they spotted Caroline seated in a wheelchair from afar, with her caregiver Josie pushing her along.
Sherilyn glanced at Gilbert, questioning without words.
"What's up?" Gilbert seemed genuinely clueless.
What's up?
Sherilyn gestured subtly towards Caroline, doubting that he hadn't noticed her.
"Aren't you going to say hi?"
"Huh?"
Following her gaze, Gilbert seemed to only then notice.
After a brief pause, he shook his head.
"No, let's not."
Continuing on his way, holding Jenna tight, they moved forward.
What was going on?
Sherilyn was baffled, quickly catching up to him, her curiosity getting the better of her. "What's the deal with you two?" "What deal?"
Gilbert chuckled. "Didn't you say you preferred it if we didn't interact with her?"
While that was true, she hadn't expected him to take it to the extent of not even acknowledging Caroline when they crossed paths. Sherilyn squinted, slightly irritated. "You're acting weird."
"Weird? How?"
Gilbert leaned in, whispering by her ear, "Every time you run into her, it upsets you... I just want you, Jenna, and me to be happy together. Your happiness is what makes us happy. A happy home leads to prosperity. Your happiness is what matters the most."
Sherilyn was taken aback, suddenly looking up at him.
Did he just say... a family?
"You..."
"Mr. Gilbert!"
Just as she was about to respond, little Jenna got impatient, cupping Gilbert's cheeks. "What are you and mommy talking about? I want to listen too!" "Oops!"
Gilbert's eyes crinkled with laughter,
immediately including their
daughter. "My bad, how could
el.ne
forget our Jenna? Mommy and I
were just talking about..."
Sharing a secret, father and daughter whispered to each other as they moved further away.
With no other choice, Sherilyn chuckled and shook her head, following them.
...
By 7 p.m., Sherilyn had wrapped up her day's work, and Gilbert had just arrived.
Before that, he had sent someone to Blue Haven to pick up Jenna and brought her to the Harrison Group's CEO office. Once he was done, the father-daughter duo came to pick Sherilyn up from the set.
As soon as she appeared, Gilbert stepped out of the car, opening the door for her.
"Mommy!" Inside the car, Jenna, holding a Minnie Mouse doll, reached out to her mother.
"I came to pick you up!"
"Thank you, Jenna."
Sherilyn got in, smiling as she hugged her daughter, carefully asking her, "Did you eat well today? Are you feeling alright? Did you take a nap?"
"I did everything..."
Jenna snuggled into her mother's embrace, earnestly answering each question.
Gilbert watched them quietly, a warm smile on his face, not wanting to interrupt this precious mother-daughter moment.
The car left the city behind, heading towards the Johnson Mansion.
A couple of days ago, Gilbert had arranged with Francis over the phone to have dinner at the Johnson Mansion tonight.
