Chapter 1004
He naively and openly believed that what Sherilyn lacked over those years was just care, enjoying a lavish lifestyle all the while! She had merely left Sunhaven, changing her surroundings, that's all!
Gilbert's heart twisted in pain, making it hard for him to breathe...
Yet, this was just a hidden truth he had stumbled upon, and it hurt him this much. What about Sherilyn?
Alone, enduring and experiencing all these hardships... How much pain must she have been in!
Tonight, Sherilyn had a night scene.
When Gilbert arrived, her bodyguard Candida and assistant Naomi approached him together.
"Mr. Nine," Candida said, "Ms. Gomez isn't done yet."
Gilbert nodded, "I know. You two go about your tasks; I'll wait for her here."
"Alright, Mr. Nine."
After dismissing the two, Gilbert stood alone, watching Sherilyn performing a scene with Michael from afar.
The play was set in ancient times.
The costumes were heavy, but Sherilyn, slender as she was, made the bulky outfit seem elegant.
Gilbert reminisced about Sherilyn at twenty, comparing her to the woman before him...
When she left Sunhaven, she was a girl with a hint of youthful fluff on her face, but now, she had bloomed into a breathtaking rose. Sherilyn had grown up.
In places he couldn't see, through hardships... she had grown up!
Feeling a bitter sting in his eyes, Gilbert turned away and shut them tightly.
It was as if a cat, baring its teeth, had extended its sharp claws and violently scratched across his heart, leaving trails of blood!
When he opened his eyes again, they were misted over, as if washed by water.novelbin
Sherilyn didn't know yet that he had found out...
And yet, he didn't fully understand either!
What he knew was just a rough outline!
Gilbert picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"Hello, Mr. Gilbert," came Charles's voice from the other end.
"It's me." Gilbert closed his eyes
slightly, "Arrange for someone too et
look into what happened to Sherilyn during her years in Crestwood."
"Crestwood?" Charles was puzzled, not quite understanding, "Mr. Gilbert, what exactly are you looking for?" "Everything."
Gilbert's voice deepened, "Whatever you can find that's related to her."
"Understood," Charles complied, though hesitantly added, "But, that's in Crestwood, and it's been so many years..."
Implicitly suggesting that the task might be difficult.
"Do what you can." Gilbert's gaze
darkened, "She spent four years in a
city;
there must be some traces left
behind."

"Got it, Mr. Gilbert." Charles, though confused, didn't ask further.
After hanging up, Gilbert's lips curled in a bitter smile, a way to suppress the guilt surging in his heart.
He already knew, yet he couldn't offer Sherilyn an explanation!
At the very least, he wanted to know, what hardships had she endured?
Knowing even a little bit more would be good!
After wrapping up the scene, Naomi went to get Sherilyn some water and pointed in Gilbert's direction. Sherilyn looked up, then, picking up her costume, she walked over to him.
"Why are you here? Is something wrong?"
Gilbert didn't speak, merely smiling softly, scrutinizing her subtly.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Sherilyn felt puzzled, "Is something wrong with me?"
"You're beautiful. Truly beautiful."
Gilbert watched her, smiling.
Sherilyn's beauty was flawless, showing no signs of the hardships she had endured...
It seemed those hardships had assimilated into her being, digested by her.
Thinking this, Gilbert felt a profound despair, a sense of devastation.
