Chapter 500
Chapter 500
Chapter 500 We Are Adults
This dinner was dramatically chaotic, like the god of love had gotten drunk and started randomly
matching people together.
Larry and Nancy kept hinting for Keith to show affection to Shirley, while Shirley kept giving
opportunities for Keith to show affection to Nancy.
Keith claimed to be showing affection to Shirley, but in reality, his attention was all on Nancy. He peeled
shrimp after shrimp, then started peeling crabs, piling up a mountain of food in Nancy’s bowl that she
couldn’t possibly finish eating…
“Alright, alright, stop peeling. I’m full, really full.”
Nancy wore an awkward smile, stopping Keith from peeling more shrimp.
Then, she lowered her voice, “I’ve been a wingman for you long enough. Why don’t you chat with
Shirley, serve her food? Have you forgotten everything I taught you? If you don’t act soon, she’ll leave
the table.”
“Are you really disgusted with me? Is it because the shrimps I peel aren’t clean enough, or the crab
legs I handle aren’t plump enough? I can do better!”
Keith looked at Nancy with pitiful, puppy-dog eyes.
That confused Nancy.
“Ahem, I’m full too. You guys enjoy your meal!”
Shirley wiped her mouth and got up to leave the table, calling out to the two children,
“Let’s go, Ben and Ally, I will take you to play!”
“I’m full as well.’
Larry also stood up.
Even if his observation skills were poor, he could see who Keith was aiming for. So he stopped trying to
play matchmaker.
After all, he had taken Nancy for his sister. If Nancy won over Keith, it would be the same as if Shirley
had won him over. The effect would be the same, and Keith could still be “used.”
So, only Keith and Nancy were left at the dining table.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward, with a hint of gooey things. However, Nancy had already
figured out Keith’s intentions and was very annoyed by the gooey feeling.
She put down her chopsticks, glared at the man unhappily. “Hey, Keith Guerra, are you tricking me?”
“How dare I, my lady?’
Keith’s handsome face showed innocence. ’Haven’t I been serving you properly all night? How could I
be tricking you?’
“You said yourself that you wanted to pursue Shirley. I told you so many strategies, and you didn’t
follow any of them. You just used me as a wingman all night. Now my stomach is full of shrimp and
crab. If you’re not tricking me, then what are you doing?”
Nancy couldn’t help but let out a satisfied burp as she said this, and casually picked up some fruit to
cleanse her palate.
Keith raised his eyebrows and looked at her with a half-smile. “Well, thank you for your help, Good
Samaritan. But… have I ever said I wanted to pursue Shirley?”
“What are you talking about? You like her, and you’re not going to pursue her? Besides, just now it was
you who said that you wanted to pursue Shirley and asked me for advice. How come you’re denying it
now?’
“I just said I could try to pursue her, not that I was really going to. Besides…” Keith suddenly paused,
looking at Nancy with a more meaningful gaze.
“When did I ever say I liked her?”
“Why are you being so shy? There’s no one else here.”
Nancy looked at the man, feeling a mix of sympathy and frustration. “I know that with a rival like
Braden, you’re under a lot of pressure. After all, he’s handsome, capable, and your best friend. It’s only
natural that you’d hesitate to make a move on your best friend’s woman. But now that Shirley is single
again, you should at least have the courage to admit your feelings for her, right?’
Keith chuckled and gently patted Nancy’s head. “Don’t get too carried away. I just want to know, why
are you so sure that I like her?”
“Because Shirley is outstanding, beautiful, and has a strong personality. She’s the epitome of a perfect
woman. No man can resist her charm, and you, being a playboy, are no exception.”
Nancy replied confidently.
“But you’re also outstanding, beautiful, and have a strong personality. Why don’t you think I like you?” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“You…you…”
Nancy’s calm demeanor was once again stirred by the man’s words. Her cheeks flushing slightly.
Perhaps it was the wine or the romantic night, but she looked up at him. Her eyes, clear as a spring,
held expectation. “So tell me, do you like me?”
This was the first time Nancy had directly asked the man this question.
Before this, there had always been a thin veil between them. She was sure she could pick up on some
of his signals but wasn’t sure if she was just overthinking things. As a result, she had never had the
courage to ask him. After experiencing tonight, she was completely fed up with this never- ending
ambiguity.
She didn’t feel she had the right to move forward, but she also feared regret if she stepped back…
“I…”
Keith probably didn’t expect the usually proud Nancy to take the initiative and pierce the veil.
He, who had been skillfully handling their relationship, suddenly seemed a bit flustered and unsure of
how to proceed.
The man’s hesitation wounded Nancy’s pride.
She hadn’t expected her first-ever attempt at taking the initiative to end in failure.
“Fine, you don’t have to answer. We’re adults; I understand.”
An adult’s affection was bold and straightforward.
An adult’s indifference was hesitant and wavering.
At this moment, she was 100% sure that Keith didn’t like her at all, and flirting with her was just a habit.
All this time, she had been the one overthinking things.
“I’m full. I’m leaving first.’
Nancy stood up, forcing a smile at the man. “I’m sorry for making you feel awkward just now. I promise
that won’t happen again…”
“And also, if you really like Shirley, you don’t need to think too much about it. Just pursue her bravely,
like my brother. He’s been chasing Shirley for so many years, and although he still hasn’t succeeded,
his mindset is great because he has no regrets.”
As she spoke, she backed away, accidentally bumping into a decoration and almost tripping.
“Be careful!”
Keith quickly caught her, looking concerned and apologetic. “I’m sorry, are you… okay?”
“You’re overreacting. Why are you apologizing to me? I’m fine. I didn’t confess my feelings to you. I just
asked if you like me. It’s normal if you don’t like me. I know you like Shirley, so…”
“I told you, I’m not into Shirley!”
Keith’s tone was somewhat unhappy, and his face was cold. “At least now, I’m not into her anymore.”
“Then you…”
Nancy instinctively wanted to ask, “Who do you like now?” But she was a proud woman and didn’t want
to lose face a second time.
“Suit yourself!”
She pushed the man away with an unhappy expression and walked out of the dining room on her own.
However, as she walked, she felt something wrong with her body. The pain in her abdomen caused her
to involuntarily hunch over like a shrimp, squatting down in pain…
