Chapter 62 Let’s Have a Baby

Josephine tensed. Her face flushed hotly. She looked away to avoid Lewis’s gaze.

Lewis picked her up and placed her in the bathtub. Josephine clenched her fists nervously. She was a little reluctant because her stomach did not feel well. However, she had no power to refuse him. If she were to do so, she would only receive even more violent treatment from him in return.

Warm water washed over her. In the next moment, she was completely drenched. He was indeed helping her bathe, but that was also not his main intention. He would make a move on her after she was clean.

Josephine bore through the discomfort and cooperated until the middle of the night. In the end, she did not even know how she had fallen asleep. Groggily, she thought she heard him say something in her ear. She was unsure, but it sounded like, “Let’s have a baby.”

With her eyes half-closed, she looked at the face hanging above her head in a blur. She relaxed and fell instantly into darkness.

Lewis would not say such a thing. She was probably so exhausted that she was hallucinating.

When she woke up, it was already bright out. She picked up her phone. It was already 10 am.

She felt cramps in her abdomen. She bore through the discomfort and changed into her clothes, then found some painkillers and casually took one.

After washing up, she prepared to head out to work.

Mrs. Jinkins was already preparing lunch in the kitchen. Josephine was about to tell her not to when someone rang the doorbell.

Josephine went to open the door. A middle-aged couple in down jackets stood in front of her. They smiled and greeted Josephine.

“Hello, you must be Mrs. Alvarez,” the man smiled and said. “I’m Patrick Leigh, Mary Jinkins’ son. My mom lives here, right?”

Josephine furrowed her brows. She did not know who Mary Jinkins was. She only knew Mrs. Jinkins.

She gestured at him. “I don’t know who you are talking about.”

Patrick looked at her signing, confused. Was she mute? Perhaps she was just a household staff member?

At that moment, Mrs. Jinkins came out. “Josie, I heard someone ring the bell…” Before she could finish her sentence, the spatula in her hand fell to the floor with a loud clang.

Josephine turned to see Mrs. Jinkins trembling. Her face was pale.

Patrick noticed Mrs. Jinkins. He immediately walked past Josephine and strode inside.

“Sure enough, you’re here, Mom. We’ve had a hard time locating you.”

Mrs. Jinkins’ chest was heaving furiously, either out of fear or fury.

“What are you doing here? Leave! Get out!” Mrs. Jinkins picked the spatula up off the floor and started to chase them away.

Patrick caught the spatula in her hand, and with a smile still on his face, said, “Mom, what are you doing? We finally found you. Why are you chasing us out? I’m your son!”

“I have no son! Leave! I’m already like this, can’t you let me spend the rest of my days in peace?”

“Mom! I need your help!” Patrick said with a forceful tone. He snatched the spatula.

“I’m not going to help you! Leave! This is someone else’s house! You can’t just let yourself in!

Mrs. Jinkins was truly afraid. She was afraid that her son would ruin her hard-won peaceful life.

“Mom, Isaac is getting married. I’m just here to let you know,” Patrick said.

Mrs. Jinkins was a little stunned. “Isaac is getting married?”

“Yes, your grandson is getting married! Aren’t you happy? Do you want to come to his wedding?” NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

Mrs. Jinkins’ eyes suddenly reddened and she choked up. Her grandson was getting married. She was old, but she knew her son. He would not have come looking for her just for this. “Are you here to get me to go to Isaac’s wedding?”

“Of course, but…” Patrick changed the topic. “His wedding is in two months. You know how expensive weddings are; we have to buy a car and a place. Don’t even mention the wedding banquet. Everything requires money.”

Mrs. Jinkins understood immediately. “You’re here to ask me for money?”

“Mom, how could you say that? Isaac is your grandson. You should help no matter what,” the lady chimed in.

Mrs. Jinkins looked utterly disappointed. She patted her pockets. “Does it look like I have money?”

“Mom, you’ve returned to the Alvarez family. How could you not have money? You’ve been. working for them all your life. Borrowing money from them should be a piece of cake, right?”

Her speech was all it took to make Mrs. Jinkins tremble with fury. She wagged her finger at them. “Do you hear what you’re saying? You two have failed as parents, seeing how you’re

unable to afford your son’s wedding! Yet you come for me? Think of how you two have been treating me all these years! How dare you say such a thing?”

Patrick was a little annoyed. “How I treated you? You told us that you didn’t have money, but aren’t you living well now? If you didn’t have the money, how could you survive until now? I think you’ve been a slave for the Alvarez family for so long that you’ve forgotten who your son is! You’ve forgotten that you’re a human being!”

Josephine stared at Patrick in shock. She found it hard to believe that this was what a son could say to his mother. She stepped forward, placed herself in front of Mrs. Jinkins, and signed the word for “Leave!”

Patrick furrowed his brows. “What are you gesturing about? She’s my mother. This is a family matter. What does this have to do with you?”

Patrick’s wife rolled her eyes. She tugged at Patrick and gave him a look. She smiled and said, Mrs. Alvarez, we’re just here to take our mother home. She’s old. She can’t work anymore. We’re taking her home.”

Naturally, Josephine did not believe their words. If they really cared for their mother, they would not have let her stay in such a dump.

Patrick also came to his senses. “Yes, she’s my mother. I have the right to take her home. Mrs. Alvarez, if you want my mother to stay here, you’d better cough up 500 thousand dollars. If not, I’ll take her home!”

Josephine was a little stunned as she stared at Patrick’s unkind eyes. She understood that if Mrs. Jinkins were to head back with them, she would suffer.

Mrs. Jinkins said, “Why are you giving her a hard time? You want me to go with you? I’ll go!”

Josephine held her back and shook her head furiously.

With red eyes, Mrs. Jinkins patted Josephine’s arm. “It’s fine, Josie. I’ve survived the last three years. I’m not afraid of anything. I don’t believe that they’re going to kill me.”

Josephine bit her lips. She had finally gotten Mrs. Jinkins to stay. How could she let her and suffer?

Josephine was silent for a while before taking her phone out. She typed, “I’ll give you the money!” and showed it to Patrick.

Patrick’s eyes brightened. “Are you serious? Give me the money then!”

Josephine did not have that much with her. She typed, “Give me some time.”

“Sure, we’re not in a rush. We’ll wait for you here.”

“Josie, don’t listen to him. Their greed knows no bounds. No matter how much money you give them, it won’t be enough. Listen to me. I’ll just go with them.” Mrs. Jinkins was trying hard to warn her.

Josephine had already sent a message to Lewis. “Can you lend me 500 thousand dollars?”

The last time she brought up divorce, she returned all her credit cards to Lewis. At that moment, she was truly penniless.
