Chapter 402
Xavier didn't look like he'd calmed down at all. In an attempt to get rid of the awkwardness, Yvette asked, "Aren't you supposed to be at work now?"
He looked even more upset now. After all, he hadn't even left the house to begin with. How could he possibly be at work at that moment? "I don't have work today."
"Oh. In that case, get some rest." Yvette stood up after saying that.
However, Xavier blocked her path. "Don't you have anything else to say to me?"
Yvette thought about last night and said, "No. I still have work to do, so I can't talk now."
Just as she was about to leave the room, he embraced her tightly. He gulped slightly and said, "Yvette, please remember that I'm not Jeremiah. I'll never be like him either." Yvette was stunned, and she looked up at him. "Are your memories back?"
"No." Xavier placed his hand on her face and caressed her cheek. "I just don't like it when you treat me like someone else."
She avoided looking at him. "I'm not. I only called you the wrong name by accident."
"Is that so? That'd better be the case." It sounded like he was warning her.
Before Yvette could find out why he was suddenly being so fierce again, his phone started ringing. She immediately broke free from his arms as he moved to answer the call.
Leaving the room, she hurriedly went to the music room. Then, she closed the door and continued working on her music.
Xavier felt the emptiness in his arms and unhappily answered the call. "What's up?"
"Mr. Lane, I've noticed some people have been acting shady outside your house recently. I caught one of them today, and he said they were sent by Madam Shannon," said the bodyguard. Xavier narrowed his eyes. "Did they say why she sent them?"
"I think she wanted them to keep their eyes on a child."NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
The only child there was Zachary at that moment. Xavier didn't understand why Shannon would want to keep tabs on him. He thought about it for a moment and said, "Send him back to Lane mansion." "Understood."
A heavily injured man was dropped at Lane Mansion in front of Shannon. She was tending to the flowers at the moment. Her gaze went cold when she saw the scene in front of her. "Was your cover blown so soon? Did you get the hair sample I'd told you to snatch?"
The injured man shook his head. "We weren't able to do it in time."
"Fools!" She threw the pair of scissors on the ground.
The man was so scared that he started trembling. "Mr. Xavier wanted me to tell you to stop sending people there. Otherwise, he'll..."
"He'll what?"
"He'll cut ties with the Lane family."
Shannon instantly looked livid. "Get out of here."
When the man left, Shannon couldn't help feeling frustrated. After she'd seen Yvette take Zachary away the other day, she'd been sending people to keep an eye on Yvette's house.
She'd heard that Zachary was staying with Yvette for a few days before Kiki picked him up. So, she'd become even more curious.
She wanted to check if Zachary was related to Yvette by blood, but she couldn't get any of their DNA samples.
"Madam Shannon, there's no need to
feel down. Since Mr. Jeremiah is
managing the company now,
don't we ask Mr. Xavier and Met
Snydento come home? I'm sure the truth will come to light eventually," Mandy suggested.
"Do you think I don't want Xavier to come back? He's the one who's unwilling to come home." Shannon sighed. "Yvette's also harder to manipulate now."
After saying that, she thought of something else. "I never would've thought that Zoey would get her hands on that song from last time. How is her date with Jeremiah coming along?"
Shannon had never cared about Yara. However, the Yandell family and Gemma would make the perfect in-laws for her.
"Mr. Jeremiah said he was fine with it and that he'd follow your plans," Mandy said.
Shannon felt slightly better. "If only Xav was as obedient as Jerry... Then, I wouldn't have to worry about him anymore."
"Mr. Xavier will understand that you're doing all of this for him."
"I hope so. Continue looking into Zachary's background."
"Understood."
