Trouble in Paradise

Chapter 0170

Chapter 0170

The man whispered, "If you're tired, just sleep. I'll stay with you."

In the last second before losing consciousness, I kept shaking my head inwardly. This couldn't be Pete. His voice wouldn't have such a calming effect.

It was unfortunate that Pete must have seen me in this dejected state. I could only imagine how he would mock me, but it didn't matter much anymore.

If I could accept the fact that Nicholas wanted to have a child with another woman, I could handle Pete's ridicule.

I was exhausted. Having gone through the relentless court hearings after my return and a tumultuous night of intense emotions, I was extremely overwhelmed. I told myself it was time to sleep.

I stopped resisting in the next instant, sinking heavily into Pete's embrace as my consciousness faded completely.

I dreamed of when Nicholas and I had just gotten married. Claudia had fallen gravely ill, and from then on, she became part of my life until now. Some questions perhaps didn't need direct answers. The universe often provided them in its own way.

As I woke, I slowly detached myself from the dream. But the faint pain in my chest stubbornly remained and lingered in my body.

I opened my eyes and exhaled heavily. The agony Nicholas had brought me seemed to have been somewhat dissipated.

I was exhausted, but I was driven by the emotions from my dream. Reaching out for my phone Pete had left on the bedside table, I opened WhatsApp. I sent all the evidence, including the recording of my call with Claudia to the Hawk family's group chat.

I promised Nicholas I wouldn't go public, but I never agreed not to expose it to his family. Perhaps showing Claudia's parents what kind of person she truly was would be the greatest punishment for her.

After sending it, I left the group chat without hesitation and tossed the phone aside.

I finally had time to study my surroundings. The room had minimal furniture as if it had just been moved into recently. Clothes were piled up in heaps instead of being hung in the wardrobe.

It was clear that this was Pete's place-the pampered scion who had likely just moved out. He was probably waiting for someone to tidy up for him.

Smacking my face to alleviate my tense facial muscles, I braced myself for a potential confrontation with him. My phone buzzed. It was Claudia. She first bombarded me with pleas, then she began threatening me. I merely replied, "It's been more than two minutes. I can't delete the messages now."

Nicholas also called me, but I didn't know what to say to him. Aside from informing him about the divorce, I couldn't even think of a decent opening line. All I felt was the humiliation of being abandoned.

Thoughts of him going overseas to bring back another woman and him wanting to continue the Hawk family's lineage with another woman swirled in my mind.

Pete suddenly appeared. Bending down, he snatched my phone away from me and knocked his knuckle against my head. His eyes glinted with amusement as he answered the call.NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

"Nick? Yeah, it's me..." He glanced at me, a rare hint of recklessness flickering in his eyes. "She's with me."

A smirk crossed his face as he leaned in close to me, his nose almost touching mine. The tenderness in his eyes vanished and his voice turned cold.

"Don't worry about it. If you can't take care of her, I'll do it for you!"

He hung up, his breathing growing labored as he pressed his face against mine.

"Damn it! What the heck is he on about? I don't understand!"

Realizing that I was being cornered, I shoved him away and barked, "Why are you so close to me? Are you insane?"
