Trouble in Paradise

Chapter 0338

The sound of running water echoed from the bathroom. I could hear some indescribable noises of pleasure too.

He would rather take care of himself than touch me. I always thought Nicholas's possessiveness toward me was related to the "new experiences" I had brought into his life.

I had suddenly injected a dose of love and passion into his monotonous life. It allowed him to experience what it was like for young people to date normally despite his untimely age. That was all.

But now, he refused to touch me again. I wondered if it was the physical pleasure that made him happier, or his "feelings" for me which he kept emphasizing.

Fatigue had stopped my brain from thinking. I did not want to ponder anymore. Whatever. It was fine.

When I was half asleep, I felt the bed dip. Nicholas had pulled me into his arms. His body was not completely dry, so the cool dampness from his body alerted me a little, but I still could not open my eyes. Nicholas kissed the top of my head. I heard him say, "Honey, wait until I give you a big gift. You'll definitely like it."

"Dowry?" I mumbled, not knowing what I was saying.

I did not know why I mentioned dowry. Perhaps deep down, I still cared about it. Returning to his side by sleeping with him felt improper. My conscience was pricking me. Nicholas chuckled before gently biting the skin on my back. "Not quite."

"That's great. Thank you, thank you." Great. I said thank you twice. I was already too sleepy to make sense. "Sleep, sleep..."

Drowsiness overcame the momentary disappointment in my heart. It was probably just some trinket to please a woman. Nicholas had never really thought about remarrying me.

I vaguely heard Nicholas saying something else, but his voice in my mind was like a mosquito's buzzing. soft and annoying.

few seconds later, I would have heard him say, "I won't have another chance to marry again. If that day really comes, I'll spend my entire fortune to keep you by my side

before it happens."

The next day, I was dazzled by sunlight when I opened my eyes. I then realized we had not even drawn the curtains after last night's folly.

No wonder Nicholas kept saying he wanted to carry me to the window. It seemed that this scoundrel had planned this for a long time.

Perhaps because of last night's exhaustion, Nicholas's fron-clad routine was disrupted. Surprisingly, he did not wake up early. Sunlight had cast a large shadow on his profile. His brows were slightly furrowed as if he could wake up at any moment.

I raised my hand to shield his eyes, but I did not expect him to be so alert. The change in light immediately woke him from his sleep. He caught me in the act.

awkward. However, Nicholas

seemed pleasantly surprised. I was

about to withdraw my hand when he grabbed it and brought it to his lips for a light kiss. "Good morning, honey. Were you worried about me and wanted to let me sleep a bit longer?"

I struggled a few times, but he would not let go. "No. I was just about to slap you, but I didn't get the chance to."

Nicholas chuckled. He used my hand to pat his cheek twice. "Like this?"

I pulled my hand back as if shocked. Even though we had made substantial progress last night, things were different now. I could not get used to being so intimate with him.

Nicholas could not hide the

disappointment in his eyes. He sighed and propped himself up to nuzzle my nose with his. As if he could not get enough intimacy, he planted a kiss on my lips.

Later, the light peck turned into a deep kiss. Despite the fact he had just woken up, he became aroused.
