Trouble in Paradise

Chapter 0331

It was already quite late at night when Douglas and I left the law firm. So, I invited him to have dinner with

ΠΕ

It was all thanks to Douglas' help during my time of absence. Otherwise, the law firm would have closed. its doors early on.

I was sure that there were a lot of rumors floating about, considering that a secretary that had appeared- out of nowhere was currently calling the shots within the firm. Even if he didn't tell me about it, I knew. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

I gave him a bonus in private as there were a number of things that I would need him to manage diligently for me in the future.

While waiting for the food to arrive, Douglas' fingers traced the rim of the cup, and his expression was slightly strange.

of us.

"If you have anything to say, just say it. There's no need to hide anything between the two

"Oh, it's nothing. I'm not sure if you know this, but Ms. Warren seems to be in a relationship."

What? The closed off and reserved Yasmine was in a relationship? Wasn't she solely focused on her career? How could she possibly get into a relationship?

"There's no need to tell me about such baseless rumors. I'm sure I know better than anyone if she's in a relationship."

Douglas shrugged and explained, "You might want to ask her about that yourself. I saw her with her man when I was out waiting with my friends.

"The main problem is that her partner doesn't seem like a good man. You should talk to her about it and remind her to stay sade."

Douglas was very experienced in the working world. He had a wide range of connections and witnessed many things within the industry.

If he was telling the truth, there was no reason for me to not trust him. "Who is the man in question?"

"Nelson's illegitimate son, Leo Fisher." He raised an eyebrow and continued, "I heard he used to be a cruel and heartless gangster and used to collect money as protection fees around Gyser Road." A wave of relief washed over me. "Nelson doesn't believe in marriage. How could he possibly have an illegitimate child? Not to mention, his son is a gangster? Even TV shows aren't so dramatic." Douglas said, "Is there a possibility that, despite not believing in marriage, he went through a phase where he would sleep around when he was young?

"He could have ended up with an illegitimate son if he slept around and refused to take responsibility."

My heart was filled with shock, I had to admit that there was some sense to his words. The smile on my face had turned tense.

Fortunately, the waiter had arrived with our food, allowing me to end the discussion. "Let's eat first. I'll ask

her about it some other time."

But I could not shake the worry in my heart.

No matter what type of man Leo was, he should at least be a decent person if he wanted to be with Yasmine. At the very least, he had to treat her well and stop with those shady dealings.

I took a few bites of my food, while I planned to meet her later and get some clarification on the matter. "Mr. Hawk, please come with me. We've reserved a private dining room for you."

I was deep in my thoughts when a voice interrupted my thoughts. Mr. Hawk? Did Nicholas follow me all the way over here because I did not return home?

I looked at Douglas and tightened my grip around my spoon. However, Douglas smiled brightly as he stood up and said, "I guess it's time for me to leave. I'll also be at ease knowing that Mr. Hawk is here to send you home."

Before I could answer him, I heard a series of footsteps nearing us. However, those were not the sounds. made by just a pair of leather shoes. There was also the clinking sounds of a pair of high heels.

Douglas' expression darkened. We both turned to look at the curtains separating the private rooms and quickly saw a pair of leather shoes and a pair of red high heels appear.

I could recognize Nicholas' shoes, but as for the pair of red high heels...

"Ms. Cooper, please follow me. Shall I open a glass of red wine for the two of you?"

The attendant's words had solved my confusion. Douglas pursed his lips and was about to head over and open the curtains when I grabbed his hand.

At that moment, Jasmine's voice rang out. "Nick, why don't we share a bottle? We have your driver with us anyway."

I pulled Douglas back into his seat and shook my head. So that was what he meant by sending Jasmine away. Now that I thought of it, Nicholas was indeed a confident man. Who was he to think that I would believe in him whole-heartedly just like before despite lying to me countlessly?
