Chapter 0204
My phone couldn't get any signal. I ended up acting like a blind moth and did everything I could to leave.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
For example, I held my phone and moved around every corner of the room for a signal. I also tried ripping out the wires in my old bras to try to pick the lock. I even tried toppling heavy items to make loud noises and attract someone's attention. Still, I couldn't hear a single thing. My entire body instantly acted as though all the blood had been drained from it.
Slowly, I curled up into a ball. I stopped struggling and had, instead, chosen to conserve my energy. I had been forgotten.
Nicholas kept saying that I was the one who truly wanted that divorce, but he was equally eager for it. If that hadn't been the case, then he would have been worried and wondered where I went after he brought me over.
I had no idea how much time had passed before I heard something from the other side of the door.
The person was sneaky, but she was also deliberately making noises as though she was worried that I wouldn't know she was heading over. It was Claudia. A loud click came, and the electricity was cut off.
The lights in the room suddenly went off, and my surroundings turned pitch black instantly. The sound of slippers shuffling against the floor came through the gap under the door. When enshrouded in darkness, it sounded a little eerie. "Ariana," Claudia said my name softly. Her voice, coming from the darkness, gave me goosebumps.
I calmed myself down and replied, "Claudia, aren't tricks like these just a tad too shitty?"
"Well, it locked you up, didn't it?" said Claudia. A creepy laughter escaped her. "Ariana, you can't get a divorce from my brother, at least not while Jasmine is still in the country."
Her tone brimmed with cruelty, and she sounded so creepy that she made me uncomfortable. She seemed troubled when she said, "What do I do now? How should I destroy Jasmine Cooper?"
There was no way to reason with a lunatic. I couldn't lie or anything at the time because I couldn't risk her recording everything and keeping it as evidence.
The problem was that Daniel wanted Nicholas to have a kid. He was stubborn about it. Nicholas also happened to be a ridiculously obedient son, so Daniel was taking advantage of that. Hence, Nicholas having a baby was non-negotiable.
"If you don't want Nicholas to have a baby, then you can talk to him about it. Or maybe you can let me out and I'll talk to him for you. As you know, your brother loves you the most."
"Shut up!" roared Claudia. She banged against the door evilly and fiercely said, "Nick won't listen to you. He said that he never wants to see you again."
Claudia's sudden bang on the door frightened me and got my heart to tremble. A voice in my heart kept repeating the same phrase, and it got louder as time passed.
"He said he never wants to see you again."
I was locked, and at moments like that, there was no worse news. With a bitter smile on, I caressed my womb and thought to my baby, "Don't listen to her."
I no longer held hope for Claudia to show any mercy. The problem was that it didn't matter how luxurious the place was when it was built. Abandoned sections would always be creepy and cold.
That was why I got a few pieces of clothes and wrapped myself up. Only my eyes and nose weren't covered. I was doing the most I could to keep my body warm.
Unfortunately, I had overestimated my body. It only took one night to deplete me of my energy. I did my best to make some noise so that the maids would be alerted when they clocked in for work.
It didn't take long before a crowd had gathered by the door to the basement. Everyone had their attention on me and asked, "Madam, how are you here?"
I stared at the photos I had spent the entire night putting back together. After that, I fainted in front of them.
I was grinning bitterly and internally. I didn't have the strength to explain anything to them anymore, so I closed my eyes slowly.
It felt as though I had just fallen asleep when I heard a man's angry roar coming from near the door. Nicholas was reprimanding the maids.
In the past, he would not raise his voice even when he lost his temper. His fury was silent but deadly, and he would fire anyone he didn't like. Nicholas wouldn't even bother wasting his breath.
I could tell that he was truly infuriated because his words were extremely uncouth. However, I needed to rest. I was too tired.
I dragged my exhausted body out of the bed and opened the door. That created a small gap. Nicholas had his back to me and was wearing a pressed shirt. It looked as though he had just dropped Claudia off at school.
For a moment there, I forgot why I opened the door in the first place. I stared right at his back as I puffed. I was furious because the way he played favorites was too obvious.
A maid happened to see me there and said, "Madam..."
When Nicholas heard that, he turned his head around to look at me. A hint of heartache flashed past his eyes, and he rushed toward me.
The implicit message his eyes sent was too obvious, and my heart ached with him when I saw it. I couldn't understand why he had that expression on or why he insisted on acting as though he actually cared about me. I took two steps back and slammed the door in his face.
Just before the door closed, a large palm stopped it and prevented it from closing. Nicholas was insistent and squeezed through the door to enter the room.
He stared quietly at me for a moment before asking, "How are you feeling? I'll take you to the hospital."
