Chapter 43
Sawyer glanced at Analise and then shifted his gaze elsewhere.
"What?"
Finlay reacted instantly, like an NPC triggered by a keyword or specific action.
A few days ago, he had just gone through his heat cycle. Earlier, a friend had also told him not to disturb them for the next few days, claiming they were focusing on having a child with their mate. Since then, Finlay's mind kept drifting toward children.
More than anything, he couldn't help but imagine what it would be like if he and Analise had children of their own.
Sawyer flinched at Finlay's sudden reaction. Analise and Scott were also startled. Analise turned to look at Finlay. "Why are you so surprised?"
"Didn't he just say his mate was pregnant? And Lord Hansen still took her? Isn't that a violation of Interstellar Law?"
Finlay blinked, and his slow-witted mind was filled with confusion.
Analise was speechless.
She realized just how easy Finlay was to fool. Without Scott, he would probably have been manipulated by others countless times.
But then, Analise lowered her eyes and pondered for a moment. If she hadn't noticed Sawyer's evasive gaze and the subtle movement of his fingers earlier, she might have been just as shocked as Finlay.
Wayne had described Sawyer as kind, brave, and somewhat shy. Yet, that didn't seem accurate.noveldrama
Analise felt that Sawyer wasn't as Wayne had described. Instead, she sensed a hint of scheming in him.
Since there was competition among males, it was only natural for them to be calculating. In fact, it was always the men who were more scheming.
In the human era, there were many men who manipulated and deceived women. Some even admitted on social platforms that they would pretend to love a woman, but only until she reached mid-pregnancy.
That was why so many women felt their partners no longer loved them after giving birth. They often assumed it was because their bodies had changed, but that wasn't the real reason.
These men knew exactly what they wanted from the start. Maybe they had loved once, but they loved themselves more. Women, on the other hand, always put themselves last.
If Wayne had been as
simple-minded as Finlay, it would've been easy for Sawyer to deceive him. But from today's interaction, Wayne was definitely more O perceptive than Finlay.
This led Analise to an even bolder theory.
Perhaps, in the beginning, Sawyer had truly been as kind and brave as Wayne had described. But deep down, he was ambitious.
The Vexoth's attack had been too much of a coincidence. Every alliance's city had been attacked, and in those with pure-human populations, pure-humans had been taken.
Analise recalled Finlay's opinion of pure-humans when they first met in the forest.
The thought lingered in her mind that there might be a spy in every alliance. Pure-human females held a higher status than males, but among other females, they were still at a disadvantage.
If some of them believed in the
ve
words of the Reclaimers, they might have been sent to turn the alliance's males against their own. An ambitious man like Sawyer would be the perfect choice for such à plan.
"What do you think, Ms. Chamber?"
Sawyer called out to Analise when he saw her lost in thought. He stared directly
into her eyes as he spoke.
"As a female, you should be able to empathize more. My mate is still missing. Maybe they realized they took the wrong person but didn't want to be embarrassed, so they've hidden her somewhere."
Perhaps afraid Analise would see through him, Sawyer finally showed a trace of
sorrow.
"I just hope they didn't mistreat her. However, I have no evidence that they took her."
"Would you like me to report it to the Interstellar Alliance's security force for you?" Scott, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke. His expression was calm, even carrying a hint of sympathy.
Sawyer's lips twitched in a faint smile at the sight.
"You're right. We should definitely report this to the security force!" Finlay added angrily. "I never thought Lord Hansen would do something like this..."
"I think-"
Before Analise could finish speaking, her body suddenly swayed, collapsing against Finlay.
What do you think?
