Chapter 1172
Chapter 1172:
Realizing that further persuasion would be pointless, Laney stopped pushing. She simply asked, “Will you be at my competition?” Cliff had already secured VIP seats. “The whole family will be there.”
“If we take first place, will you give me a reward?” Laney asked. Cliff clenched his jaw and responded calmly, “If that’s the case, then I won’t attend.”
Laney brushed off his threat, finding it empty and meaningless. It was her first competition. He couldn’t possibly miss it.
On the competition day, the theater was alive with anticipation. Madison had called on many to come and support. Before her performance, Laney greeted them, specifically looking for Cliff. However, in the busy crowd, there was no sign of his familiar presence. Her spirits fell, and she turned to Madison. “Madison, has Cliff come?”
Madison suddenly remembered and replied, “Oh, I forgot to mention. Cliff asked me to tell you he couldn’t be here today, but he promised to make it up to you after your performance.”
Laney felt a pang of disappointment. So, Cliff really wasn’t coming. He hadn’t taken over the family company, and the equestrian club wasn’t all that hectic. So why, of all days, was he suddenly too busy?
Laney couldn’t shake the feeling he was avoiding her on purpose. Maybe he still didn’t like her, or maybe she had messed up last time and this was his way of making her pay for it.

Madison noticed Laney’s gloomy face and the redness in her eyes. “Laney, what’s wrong? Are you crying?”
Laney blinked back her tears, refusing to let them fall. She had already done her makeup and was about to change clothes. Today’s competition was a big deal. Even if Cliff wasn’t here, she couldn’t let her emotions take over. She had to win first place. With this in mind, Laney gritted her teeth, pushed thoughts of Cliff aside, and went backstage to get ready for the competition.
Cliff hadn’t expected Philip to choose today to arrange lunch with Juliet Foster, Kira’s elder sister.
During Philip and Madison’s last trip, there had been a tunnel collapse, and Madison got stuck under a rock. Juliet had stepped up and been a huge help, and Philip never forgot that Juliet had saved his wife’s life. In Philip’s book, Juliet was smart, gorgeous, and close to Cliff’s age, which made her the ideal match for him.
By coincidence, today was Juliet’s birthday. So, Philip asked Cliff to take her out for lunch.
At first, Cliff declined, arguing today was Laney’s competition.
But Philip just said, “I know, and the whole family will attend it. But Laney’s competition is in the evening. You can have lunch with Juliet at noon. No conflict.”noveldrama
Cliff fumbled for a retort. The arrangement was solid. A lunch date would likely take about an hour, so he agreed in the end.
Cliff didn’t want to disappoint Laney, so he didn’t tell her he’d be late, figuring he could still make it before the competition started.
