After leaving the ward, Cecilia didn’t go downstairs to the underground parking. Instead, she went to

see Fiona’s

attending doctor to learn about her health condition in detail.

The doctor initially didn’t want to tell Cecilia because it involved the patient’s privacy.

However, Cecilia contacted Yvette and asked for the latter’s permission. Content © NôvelDrama.Org.

Therefore, the doctor handed the detailed medical record of Fiona to Cecilia and briefly explained

Fiona’s condition.

___”The gunshot wounds in the shoulder and thigh are not severe injuries and will recover with about

half a month of rest, albeit they may leave scars. The tears in her genitals, however, are serious and

even damaged her uterus. In the future… she might have difficulties getting pregnant.”

When Cecilia heard this, her hand that was holding the report stilled briefly before she resumed

reading.

Once she was done, she said to the doctor, “I will invite a specialist over later to help Fiona recuperate.

I hope you can cooperate actively.”

The doctor didn’t outright refuse.

“If the other party’s ideas make sense, I will certainly cooperate.”

Cecilia didn’t continue the conversation and got up to leave. She took the elevator downstairs, but

rather than going straight to the underground parking, she headed to the lobby on the first floor.

Only after ensuring the journalists had been chased away did she go to the parking lot.

With a ding, the elevator doors opened, and a face she hadn’t

seen in ages appeared in front of her.

Cecilia looked at Evan in surprise. “Evan!”

Evan Shaw was dressed in casual clothes and had a neat, youthful–looking buzz cut. His originally

stony, handsome face broke into a smile at the sight of her.

He raised his hand and stroked Cecilia’s head affectionately.

“Look at how much you’ve changed after two years.”

What changed was not Cecilia’s appearance but the aura she exuded.

Her aloofness and apathy had been replaced by vitality, bringing even the joy she exhibited to life.

Cecilia scrutinized Evan and remarked, “You, on the other “hand, haven’t changed much aside from the

addition of those

fine lines on the corners of your eyes.”

Although the two often kept in touch, they hadn’t seen each other in ages.

In the past three years that Cecilia stayed in the Yancey residence, she went back to Acocester a lot

fewer than before and always came and went in a hurry when she did.

Similarly, Evan only made time to return once and didn’t manage to meet Cecilia.

Hearing Cecilia’s words, he immediately raised a hand and pressed the corner of his eye. “Sure

enough, one can’t be too fatigued, or they’ll age fast.”

He was only 24 years old, yet he already had fine lines. Time truly hadn’t been kind to him.

Cecilia beamed. “I’ll send you a set of skincare products. tomorrow. Use more eye cream, and the fine

lines will disappear.”

Peacekeeping Forces consisted of grown, boorish men who knew nothing about skincare, nor did they

have the time for it.

Hence, they tended to look older than they really were.

Evan hurriedly refused, “No, thanks. Having too tender skin isn’t necessarily a good thing.”

After their chit–chat, he suggested, “Let’s go find a place to have a good talk.”

Cecilia nodded and looked toward Christopher, who was standing at the side.

Just as she was about to ask him to head back first, Evan spoke up.

“Come with us. I have something to say to you two.”

“Shall we go to Emerald Mansion?” proposed Christopher. Cecilia explained, “Emerald Mansion is

Chris‘ estate. It has excellent security factors and privacy. You can stay there, Evan.”

Though the police headquarters had provided

accommodations for Evan, he wanted to see the environment Cecilia lived in, so he agreed.

“Okay, Emerald Mansion it is.”

After sending his men away, Evan got into Christopher’s car and sat in the backseat.

Christopher then went to the front passenger seat to deliberately give Cecilia and Evan the space to

catch up.

After the car was started, he even asked the driver to raise the partition.

Seeing this, Evan smirked.

“He’s pretty considerate.” Then, the way he stared at Cecilia abruptly turned stern. “You’re truly unruly

without anyone controlling you. How dare you use yourself as bait? Do you have any idea how worried

Grandma is?”

He had long reprimanded Cecilia about this, but that was through the phone. Now that they met in

person, he naturally had to express his disapproval again.

If it were Aiden who said this, Cecilia would absolutely be afraid.

However, this was Evan. She had the best relationship with him, and the latter doted on her most.

She grabbed his arm gleefully and swayed it. “Aren’t you tired of saying this repeatedly, Evan?”

Evan knocked Cecilia’s head in annoyance.

“I’m being serious, you brat. Do not crack jokes, or I’ll make Aiden talk to you.”

Instead of feeling threatened, Cecilia stuck out her tongue cheekily.

“Do you really dare to call Aiden?”

“For your sake, I dare!”

Cecilia didn’t find anything wrong about this line, for she and Evan were childhood sweethearts and

also close friends.

Although the partition could isolate sound, the two’s voices weren’t soft and could be vaguely heard

from the front seats of the vehicle.

Christopher’s expression changed subtly when he heard Evan’s words, and his hand on his lap

subconsciously curled as he twiddled his fingertips.

Still, the change of his mood was only for a brief moment; he soon returned to normal.

That was because he trusted Cecilia.

On the way back to Emerald Mansion, the duo in the backseat chatted about everything under the

sun.

Evan was the one asking most of the questions, while Cecilia answered.

Roughly half an hour later, the car pulled over at the entrance of the main building of Emerald

Mansion.

Christopher got out of the automobile first and instructed the bodyguards and housekeepers to stay

away from the main building. No one could approach without his order.

If something occurred, they should just call.

As Evan’s identity was extraordinary, it would be for the best that few people saw him.

Only after Christopher made arrangements did Cecilia open the car door and alight with Evan.

The trio then entered the living room of the main building. Christopher told them, “Go ahead and sit

down and talk first. I’ll go wash some fruits and bring them over.”

Before washing the fruits, he brought Evan a bottle of water and Cecilia a bottle of yogurt.

Once the plate full of various fruits was placed on the coffee table, Evan cut to the chase. “I have

established a special operations unit in Quilton, Acocester, and Jacaster. Since you two are the key

persons, you are also among the members of the unit.”

Now that they were getting down to business, Cecilia and Christopher immediately became solemn.

They nodded simultaneously.

“I’ll do my best to cooperate when I’m needed,” said Christopher.

Evan didn’t look at the man and instead fixed his eyes on Cecilia. “You won’t need to cooperate on

anything. Just protect Ceci at all costs.”

“Even if the cost is your life,” he added inwardly.

Though Evan didn’t explicitly say this, Christopher understood the implication.

“Don’t worry, Evan. Even if it’ll be fatal, I will die before Ceci does.”

Christopher was much older than Evan, yet he spoke in a rather acquiescent tone to the latter, which

made Evan quite

unaccustomed.

The latter cleared his throat and said, “Both of you are not allowed to die. You’d better watch out for

yourselves.”

Cecilia took an apple and handed it to him. “Rest assured, Evan. We will eradicate all the forces behind

the mastermind and live unharmed.”

“That’s more like it. I’ll inform you guys of the specific

operations later. The letter of appointment will be in your hands by tomorrow.”

Cecilia and Christopher bobbed their heads at the same time. “Okay.”

Evan put the apple back on the plate, got up, and said to Christopher, “Show me around Emerald

Mansion.”

Cecilia understood what he meant by that.

Evan was about to test Christopher.

She shot Christopher a look that said he was on his own now before heading upstairs.
