Chapter Sixteen
Reese’s POV:
Reaching the hotel, I paid the driver a great tip to wait for me as I enquired Colleen’s whereabouts. Entering the decent hotel lobby, I walked toward the receptionist desk.
“Good evening, how may I help you?” the lady at the desk asked.
“Hi, um, I’d like to enquire about a person. I think she’s still staying here.” I said tapping my finger on the desk. .
“May I get a name so we can call them.”
“Colleen Anderson.” I said.
Nodding at me the woman had pulled up her system looking though the clients. A few minutes had passed before she had come across anything.
“Ah, she had checked out yesterday.” she said, making my heart drop.
I was a day too late. “Is there any way to know where she had gone?” I questioned in worry.
“I apologize monsieur, that we have no information on, but she did ask for a real estate’s number, so we recommended her to one. We only give you the contact number.” the lady said.
I nodded accepting any information they could provide. I needed to find her. I really needed to. The longer we were apart, the more the mate bond thinned. The lady handed me a business card with an address. Looking at the operating hours, there was still an hour before they closed.
“Thank you.” I said gratefully as I rushed out, toward the taxi. Entering, I closed the door, giving the address to the driver. I tapped my foot impatiently as seconds turned into minutes. As the time neared I couldn’t help but clench my hands into anticipation, until I caught sight of her.
“Stop the car.” I said to the driver.
Stepping out of the car, I looked from the other side of the road.
“Colleen?” I said out loud
She paused for a second, before turning around looking to see if anyone had called out to her. The moment our eyes locked, she took two steps back, as if she had just seen a ghost. From the way she was stepping back, my posture became more alarmed. And in the next second, she took off.
Colleen’s POV:
As our eyes locked I couldn’t help but feel my blood run cold, as my heartbeat picked up. He found us…. He really found us. It made no sense why he was here and looking for us at that. Was hurting us once not enough?Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
I felt a slight panic overcome me, so I did what I knew best, and ran.
Running as fast as I could, I could hear his footsteps following after me. Picking up my pace, I caught sight of a park filled with trees. Turning quickly trying to lose him, he turned sharply, not missing my movements. Bloody alpha genes! He was hot at my feet as we continued to run as though playing a game of catch. Trying to lose him between the trees that enriched the park, the was a small stream blocking the pathway, to the other side.
I paused for a second contemplating, jumping in, and getting across or getting caught. Reese paused a distance away.
“Don’t do it Colleen.” he said almost desperately.
It was either now or never. Making my way closer I jumped in soaking myself to wet my scent in order to give me some time to escape. Reaching the other side, I ran deeper into the tree filled park. Reaching a distance away, I sat near a tree, sliding down, panting. It felt as though we were running for hours, when really it was only 10 minutes. Is this what pregnancy does to you?
Calming myself, I couldn’t help but feel anxious as to what was happening. He wasn’t supposed to find me, he wasn’t even supposed to know where we were, but here he was, chasing us. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to even out my breathing. A sudden crack of a twig caught my attention, my wolf becoming alert. I swiftly turned to scan the area, but there was nothing. Sighing I looked away.
“Maybe it was just my paranoia…” was what I thought until my eyes locked with red eyes.
A… Rogue? The scent so adamant, I quickly stood up on my two feet. The distorted beast, made an appearance before me, slowly coming toward me, as I took a step back. What are rogues doing in France? Mom had clearly said, there were not any packs, so it made no sense for a rogue to be present, the stench this wolf gave off was enough to say what it was. Lunging toward me, I tried dodging it only for my foot to give out, allowing it to pierce its teeth into my arm. Managing to kick it off, I took a step back as blood dripped from my arm, my vision became hazy and blurry. Taking this opportunity, it growled at me again, lunging forward, but this time I had no strength. Ready to feel the impact, I closed my eyes. Was I really gonna get beaten down by a rogue? The downsides of being an Omega.
A few second passed and a grunt resonated in my ears. I looked to see none other than Reese. The rogue had been thrown aside, as Reese stood in his wolf form against it. Getting up, the rogue bared its fangs, as it circled us. Getting ready to lunge, Reese managed to dodge its vital attack, but his hind-Leg had gotten caught, making me wince. Kinking the rogue once more, he had managed to knock it into a tree brutally, and without a second to waste, he had caught a hold of its neck, biting into it, killing it slowly.
Moving behind a bush, where I assume he left some clothes to wear, the crackling of bones snapping into place rang in my ears, as he came out, wearing nothing but shorts. Making his way toward me, he scanned my body before his eyes locked with my arm.
“Colleen…!, Are you okay?” he asked as he tried to touch my face. I slapped his hand away cowering away.
“What are you doing here?” I asked expressionlessly. Did he think after saving me, he could erase what he had done? He kept silent as he looked into my eyes, not answering me. “WHAT?!” I yelled out at him.
Sighing he rubbed his face, before looking at me yet again. “Colleen, you need to listen to me, there’s a reason I-” He began to make excuses, but I had cut him off.
“I have nothing to listen to.” I said monotonously. “Can you be certain that everything that you’re about to say is not an excuse? I’m not stupid to trust someone whose already hurt me once.” I said, tuning away.
Feeling his pheromones rise, I heard him growl in frustration before banging the tree beside him, making it shake. “LISTEN TO ME!” he yelled.
A short silence fell over us before he spoke out, after taking a deep breath to calm himself.
“Why did you do it? Why did you hide that you were pregnant, Colleen?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I lied straight through my teeth. There’s nothing that could give it away at this moment, my scent was still wet, the heartbeat was too faint and the little bump didn’t attract any attention.
He stared straight into my eyes before speaking again. “Don’t Lie straight to my face. I know you’re carrying a part of me. That’s why you ran away. But did it not cross your mind to tell me? WHY WOULD YOU DEPRIVE ME OF MY OWN CHILD? Yes I was a scumbag, a jerk, an asshole, say what you must, but did you not think about how important this would have been to me?” he asked.
Wait.
Hold up.
Was he blaming me? We wouldn’t be in this mess if it weren’t for him in the first place. He played with my heart, he played with me, and shamefully I let him.
“Now why would I think of you in any situation Reese? Just why would I? As if hurting me wasn’t enough, was I supposed to hurt myself trying to stay beside you? Let’s get this right… You. Hurt. Me. Not the other way around. You rejected me. Not the other way around. So why would I let us suffer? Is there a reason I should have stayed and let myself die with a hope that ceased to exist?” I questioned.
I looked at him as he stayed quiet. As he looked away. Something was eating him up. He refused to look into my eyes and confess to his mistakes. “I’m trying to be happy here, so don’t deprive me and my child of that happiness. Please just leave us alone. Besides, you have Lillian, there is no need for us anymore, you’ll be happy-”
“I did it for you!” his voice resonated cutting me off.
‘What…?’
